  1. i have to go pick it up tonight and will see if that's the problem... i'd be pleased if it were as easy as an ignition switch.
  2. it does have a security system and this last time it wouldn't start i figured it could be the automatic kill switch after changing the battery, cables and starter. i pulled the horn, switch and wiring out for the alarm just to be sure. thanks for the heads up, though! it's dead again. had it at a buddy's shop the other day after it leaving me stranded. i've driven the thing 5-6 times TOPS since i "fixed" it before just 2 months ago. dudes at the shop say they think the solenoid is bad again or there's some faulty wiring because they could do the positive-jumper wire-solenoid trick. i suppose taking the thing back to advance auto is the next step. :-\
  3. ***FIXED*** The Subie is aliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive! Took the starter into Advance to have them test it against another starter: it was fine, tested exactly where it should. The parts guy gave me the other (more expensive!!!) starter to take home to "try", after installing it my car started RIGHT up, first try and began idling perfectly... Kinda funny since it's not been ran for almost a month. So, I either installed it wrong the first time and got a more expensive starter for my own error or the first starter though it yielded proper test numbers was somehow faulty. Thanks again for the help guys!
  4. Sounds good, I will dig around out there tomorrow and let you guys know. I'm also taking the starter to Advance to have them test it, just in case.
  5. Yeah, I plugged the small wire/plug back onto the starter. I was out there earlier moving it from park to neutral, pulling the e-brake, putting the e-brake down, etc. None of it made a difference. I'll try messing with the shifter like you said, hopefully it's something easy as that. I tried the 12v to the starter solenoid trick/test and the car still wouldn't start. Just as a side note, before buying the new starter the old one was dying for like 6 months, I'd just whack it with a hammer when it wouldn't start to get it going... Finally after doing that forever I decided to buy the new starter... And that's where I'm at today, a new starter, battery and cables but still a non-starting Subie.
  6. 1984 turbo wagon, automatic. Symptoms/observations: When the key is turned, I can hear the starter click but it won't start. It's a loud click but not accompanied by any other sound. Tried running a jumper wire from the positive battery post to the starter post/connection to rule out connections. Still a no-go. Just installed a new (remanufactured) starter, (brand new) battery and (brand new) cables Double-checked all the grounds, fuses and any applicable connections Plenty of juice (headlights, radio, alarm all work perfectly fine) Tried to jump-start it with our other car, still the same symptoms No corrosion or loose connections Here's the starter I bought: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Starter-Worldwide_5845807-P_123_R%7CGRPSTRTAMS_539235527___ What are the chances the starter is bad or even the wrong one? Should I just pull it out and have Advance (where I bought it) test it for me? Thanks guys.
  7. Sweet! I found it, just like you guys said, it's literally on the backside of the black, plastic box-thing in the far back/right of the dash. I knocked it around with a hammer, plugged it back in and it doesn't look like this one is good...So, off to the yard I go to find another!
  8. Ed, It is LHD, and thanks for your help...I'll go digging around out there today.
  9. I have the glove box, lower shelf and kick panels removed on my 1984 wagon but still can't find the stupid blower motor! Is it inside one of the two big black box contraptions? I'm having a hard time getting these things shifted around to see what's in/behind them, I swear every clip, screw and bolt has been removed! :-\ HELP!
  10. So...On the turbo wagon there are only 2 relays, both the same model/part number. One is for the headlights and the other is for ???? I switched the two to make sure both relays are working and they are, I just don't know what the other socket is for. Anyone know?
  11. Sweet! I'll check it out when I get home, if I need a new relay I can probably just scoop one up at the yard, right?
  12. It's an 84 turbo wagon, btw... Fuse is good. I checked the fusible links under the hood (don't know if they're related to the fan/heater) and they're fine. What's next??? I read in other threads on ea82 cars there's a relay under the dash, near the steering column...Are there the same relays on my ea81? TIA
  13. i'd also like to add that's the exact same location as the ea81t coolant thermosensor.
  14. alright, i finally located it! it's not that hard to get to and came out easy. it takes a deep 19mm socket with no extension to get it out btw. i was originally looking for just 2 wires, rather than a 2 pole connector, that's why i was having such a hard time before. anyway, the connector is pretty busted up and wiggles quite a bit to even the slightest pressure. when i pulled the connector off, there was also some oil residue in and around the plug so i'm sure that wasn't helping with the connection either. i cleaned the contacts the best i could until i can figure something out to make the connection better. anyone have one of those plus hanging out i can pay you to send me?
  15. awesome, thanks guys. i'll get back out there and dig around some more, so i'm looking for a 2 pole sensor with something around a 12-14mm wrench fitting.
  16. ok cool, that's the assurance i needed, thanks. it must be pretty buried, because i didn't see much under the intake plenum, the closest thing i saw was this on top of the block. : confused :
  17. what i found just now is on the lower left side of the below the thermostat housing, it has ONE wire and the connector looks like the one in this picture: which makes me believe this is the part I'm looking at. rather than the right side as the pic HTI posted, it's on the left, underneath the radiator hose aiming at an angle towards the passenger side headlights. i was digging through my HTKYSA but it's not the most in depth manual.
  18. i'm going out right now to look at it, i'm sure you are right though hti, i'm pretty sure i was messing with the wrong sensor.
  19. If the ea81t and the ea82t setup is the same, then I was messing with the wrong part, even though the size/connector/shape all look exactly the same as the pic I posted of the sensor from partsamerica. :unamused: I'll take off the intake plenum and dig around down there, mess with that connection and stuff today, I'm sure you are right because the sensor would be mounted on that weird coolant intake on top of the block.
  20. i pulled the connector and cleaned the connections the best i could a few days and it didn't seem to change anything (i actually threw and pulled the #33 code last night) but i will mess with it again and double check the wire itself, etc. here's a picture of the part:
  21. I'm getting code 33 in my ea81t, this is the Water Temp Sensor (thermosensor?) I need, correct? http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=NIE&MfrPartNumber=TS26821 I know where it's located, I just need to make sure this is the part I need and not the one on top of the thermostat housing.
  22. Replaced the battery cables last week, totally fixed the problem. The car idles WAY better now too.
