  1. I already have 215/70-15's. My car is lifted. They don't rub.
  2. As the title says... Has anyone put 215/75-15's on a 1st Gen Outback(96-99)? Not interested in anyones speculation as to wether this would work or not. I just want to know if anyone has done it/tried it and how it worked out. Thanks.
  3. How about a genuine Suby belt from subarugenuineparts.com. It's $58. Sounds like a good compromise. I usually like genuine.
  4. What he said^^^^ I like the area around Barlow pass too, but there's too much snow there right now. Road 44 between HWY 35 and Dufur is great as well. A bit further away though.
  5. Score! Bulletproof engine with lots of torque. Wouldn't mind seeing pics.
  6. I'm dealing with it fine. I have no quandry anymore. None of this has anything to do with my original question. I already got the advice I needed on that in the first few posts, and I took it. My tire clearance is no longer a question. According to the helpful members here it's not an issue, it'll be fine, and I trust that advice. But, to be safe I plan on getting some spacers when I can. We got completely off track here. Then we got a pi**ing match about who knows more because there is just too much assumption going on. I had my question answered a long time ago. Yep, ideally tires would be picked very carefully. Which is what I did with the last set. But, I didn't have much of a choice this time.
  7. You got me there. But, come on, that's never going to happen.
  8. Low extra money. I have no idea what you're talking about. Even if I did, it wouldn't be full throttle, and it would have been mostly unintentional, and I wouldn't have meant to go quite that fast. It might have been totally worth it though.
  9. That's the thing. It's a fine line between having fun and keeping the car going. It's not like I really beat the crap out the car anyway. Th point is, if I can minimize potential damage and costs by simply choosing the tires carefully, why not? It's not like I can't fix things that go wrong. Getting a junkyard axle or hub or something is totally different than buying new tires. I'm not sure how much putting different tires on counts as modifying. I'm really not sure how anyone else is liable.
  10. That's a good point. It depends on what his marks look like. I'd trust him to know what it is that's making the marks. He does drive the car constantly. The worry is that tires aren't cheap. It's a risk thing. I can't afford to take any risk whatsoever with my tires. I can't afford to replace them. This is my daily driver. If I killed a tire, I couldn't drive to work. If I can't get to work I can't pay my rent. It's just minimizing risk. I'm sure it's the same with anyone else worried about it.
  11. Put a little super glue on the end of the piece that came off and stick it back on. Let it dry good. Then try twisting it a little while you lightly pull. Good luck.
  12. I think you should get a compression tester and test it again yourself. They can be had pretty cheap. I'm not a big fan of this dealer you've been going too.
  13. I think that's the great thing about a site like this. The experience of people that have done everything is very valuable, and much appreciated by those of us with less money to try things and less experience.
  14. Yes, that was me. Hmmmm... your opinion of too close and mine are different. The tires I have now are too close for me. I was at Sandlake again today(1/30) and I aired the 215/70-15's to 18psi. Now I have rub marks on my brand new GR/2's. Not bad marks but I can tell it's touched. I'll definetly be getting 5mm wheel spacers. I'd feel more comfortable that way. I even had the alignment checked. The rear camber apparently isn't adjustable but it's within specs.
  15. You saying that 235's will fit had absolutely nothing to do with my question. Your "advice" you gave was ambiguous and not helpful. I know the tires I have will fit on the car, they're already on it. You made a blanket statement which could be misleading to someone that doesn't know better and was only meant to show your supreme knowledge of the subject. Not trying to be mean, I do appreciate your experiences. I am completely sure that 235's won't fit on my car. I dont know the difference between my car and your setup. It doesn't matter, it has nothing to do with my original question. Oh, and as I said in my first post, I have a lift. I've already tried 215/75-15's. They do fit, no rubbing, but they were bald throwaways. They're a little too close to the strut as well though.
  16. Maybe, I don't know. I do know that a 235 wouldn't fit mine though. Don't know why. Didn't have any thought of you deing a wongleflute. Thanks for the help all.
  17. It all depends on the wheels and their offset...... There's no way another 20mm wide tire would clear my struts with the stock wheels I have.
  18. I already had 205/75-15's. They were switched out for the 215/70-15's. I guess I wasn't clear about that. Thanks for the advice. I'll go ahead and keep them. Just for my own peace of mind I think I'll put some 5mm spacers on. Then, when these tires are dead I'll have enough space I'll be comfortable jumping up to 215/75-15's.
  19. Ok, I've got a 99 Outback that's lifted. Due to an irritating tire debacle I now have Yokohama Geolander AT/S's in 215/70-15(instead of Grabber AT/2's in 205/75-15). The issue(maybe) is that with the new tires I only have about 3/16" - 1/4" of clearance between the top inner sidewall of the rear tires and the strut towers. So, what do you think of the clearance? I'm concerned about the tire flexing in corners, bulging when aired down, and then flexing more when aired down. I would just try them out for awhile and see if it'll be an issue but if they won't work I need to return them ASAP. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Thanks to the organizers for getting me out to play at Sandlake again. I didn't take many pictures, too busy playing. But i got this.... http://s571.photobucket.com/albums/ss152/daredevil1166/Sand%20Lake%20Jan%2010/?action=view&current=P1170031.flv
  21. I agree. It seems he has a history of crazy ideas that never lead anywhere, but geez, let a guy try, and maybe give a little constructive advice. Even if it never happens, who cares. Why not think and dream. Now, I'm off to put snowmobile tracks on my Outback.
  22. I've always had the best luck with a higher channel. 22 is fine with me.
