Could someone please tell me where the relay for headlights is on an 86 Brat (Brumby).
The lights won't kick back down to low beam from high.
Sticking I think.
Cheers,
Matt
Hmm, Crazy island way down south...You must mean TASMANIA
In Australia we have more Subarus than any other country (per head of population) and Tasmania has about twice as many as the rest of Oz.
We are the Pacific NW of the southern hemisphere. They are everywhere.
I think there are more hardcore coversions and modifications done in the US due to our Fun Nazi vehicle regs here in Oz, I would love to get into some of the frame rail and H6 conversions I have seen on USMB but the vehicle rego people would laugh hysterically at me if I tried to pass one.
I know of three lifted series 1 Brumbys (Brats), one of them was lifted when new in 1980 when the current owner bought it, it will still go anywhere with is second EA81 in it.
Here is mine....
Cheers Matt
Well done with the Brat mate, well thought out and nicely converted.
I bet you are looking forward to 4WD when those fronts come onto line.
How does it handle with the rears only driving it?
You must get some amazed looks when the back steps out with some drift!
Cheeers.
On the flipside of that, in Tasmania I look at AC as just another belt to remove thats costing me horsepower! If its too hot - window down or roof off
Too cold - Mr Fuji makes a great heater!
Bob, the 4 speed D/R is a normal 3.7 ratio for a Brumby and for MY wagons, the 3.9 ratio is quite rare in Oz I have found,
If you have a different rear ratio to the gearbox ratio it will bind up when put in 4wd, corners or not!
Cheers,
matt
Correct Fellas, it is pronounced Yout as in Utility.
Make sure you say it with pride!
I am sure I used to have the only ute in North Carolina!
Pickups everywhere though.
Yes I can feel it through the wheel!
Pardon my ignorance, but whats a DOJ ? I'm guessing Driveshaft and Output and Joint.
Or the outer joint..
Bloody thing is new, I might have a dud?
Do you think that I need to pop an axle out when running a 2" lift and 14'' road rubber? or will it chirp away around corners without going boom!
Might be a little hairy on a wet winding road?
This is my Brat/Brumby....
Generaldisorder, That is what I feared!
Many thanks for the prompt reply,
onto the hoist for me...
These 1:3.9 boxes are rare here,
I will check the CV again though.
Thanks
It sounds more internal and substantial than a CV (which are both brand new, inner and outer) is there a crown and pinion in there?
The fact that it only comes in when I back off make me scratch my head!
G'day all, I have a Brat/Brumby with a dual range 3.9 ratio 5 speed in it. Pushing 14" road rubber. I have a noise coming from the gearbox or front diff which is a loud mechanical click/ grating.
Only happens when lifting off the power, dissappears when under power or clutch is in.
Worse in 4wd
Quite loud when going slow and turning....
What is there to go wrong in the front diff??
Any suggestions would help greatly.
Thanks
Matt
Apparently it was using a little coolant on highway trips, only when running hot, and then all of a sudden steam and smoke from the exhaust and it was shut straight down. Where on the heads do they crack normally?
I have been donated an EA82T from a 86RX to go in my Brumby/Brat,
Apparently it has a split in the block (it let coolant out the exhaust),
I have the heads off and all looks good, where should I look for this crack when I split it open?
Has anyone heard of this happening?
Cheers Guys
G'day Fellas,
It may be my 10 cents worth, but I would go th 2.2 and the more factory HP you start with, the less you have to twist its neck to get some performance.
Less mods = better reliability
Plus its going to scream if you throw boost at it later.
All the best from Tasmania
(isn't the internet a wonderfull thing)
