  1. I actually had a hose going from it to the one in front of it...thinking it would act as a plug. Seems the other must be a vent or something.
  2. Found the culprit. One of the ported fittings above the incoming fuel line was leaking vacuum.
  3. I havent yet, that is inline though. Kinda short on time at the moment, so I am going for a quick fix right now. I figure I dislodged some carbon or gunk and caused a blockage. I'll get a carb number and order a kit at least.
  4. I only 'yarded' out what I have yarded out on other Hitatchis. Actually, in the meanwhile I found a pictorial that you [GD] did regarding doing the same. Thats all that I took out. Either way, it left me with a box full of parts and vacuum hose.
  5. Again, the '87 Brat. I yarded out all the normal emissions stuff. Piddled around with it, fired it up to check for vacuum leaks. Today, took it for a drive and going out of the idle circuit into the primary it hardly runs.....unless you pin it and it will eventually wind out once it gets clear through the first 3/4 of the primary circuit. If I back off and let it run off the idle circuit, its great. Again, into the primary it hardly will run. Stutters and stammers. While spraying out the carb could I have dislodged something and now have a blockage? I cant think of anything else it might be. No vacuum leaks. I have the advance going directly into manifold vacuum, fwiw. What am I missing?
  6. How in the world do you use these straps to store the fun roofs? The bottom piece is anchored at both ends. The top strap has a piece of velcro on it but its nowheres long enough to attach back to itself. '87 Brat
  7. Great, ordered an EMPI and am ready to go.
  8. Right on. And the best place to get an axle online would be?
  9. GD, excellent, that is what I was looking for. Edrach, thats why I wrote. I would rather not take a whole lot apart as well.
  10. Which I had read but there seemed to be some revisions and different thoughts. Some say do this, some say you dont need to do this but you need to do that....etc.
  11. '87 version, front-passenger side. I have read all there is to read here but lots of versions. Someone care to simplify what needs to be loosened, removed, dropped, etc? 1. knock out pin 2. ball joint, tie rod, strut, neither? 3. take off nut and punch out shaft through hub. Thats pretty simple to me, its point #2 there seems to be some confusion on.
  12. No rust at all. Front boot is tore up but thats all I see so far.
  13. $1500, 147K miles, runs great, rides great, everything works. $7 spray can paint job it seems, dont really care. http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii289/opusthe2nd/brat/
  14. Just curious.... an '87 Brat would have an EA81, right? Its also a 4 spd, right? How are they for cruising speeds? Can you do 65, etc reasonably?
  15. Friend thinks he needs 2 front ones [wind noises]. I find it hard to believe that an average use car would need them. I am suggest door adjustment. Thoughts?
  16. Gotcha, was just wondering.
  17. Can this be done? Can you swap a carb intake onto this engine?
  18. Too complicated. Put the pointer in the middle of the 3 tick marks and call it good. On the drivers side camshaft put the dot up, passenger side put it down, put the belts on....voilà!
  19. Thats what is keeping me hanging onto my '86. Simple, clean, fixable and no sensors.
  20. Great, now what are the chances of getting one with no vacuum hoses, no sensors, etc.
  21. What years were these in the Legacy? I might want to jump up from an '86 GL....but not sure yet. Any 'bad' years in the early 90's to avoid? Dont want anything newer than say....'95.
  22. Both are 4WD. I find it hard to believe that I will have more 'zip' than this '86 has. You really thing I will get better than 30mpg, which is what I get with the '86? If its a digi-dash thing, I wil probably forgo the swap. I like the '86, its bare and basic now. I would need to replace a rear quarter, which I suppose can be done. A couple fenders are deer magnets too.
  23. Sorry...but I think I can give you a 4wd one that hit a pole.
  24. Only vacuum left on this is for the cabin controls, dist. advance and the choke pull offs I think. Oh yeah, the cold air door.
  25. Hmmm...he told me it was injected. Pretty sure its an '87 too, non CA. My '86 has a carb with but 1 or 2 vacuum hoses on it. Lots of plugs.
