  1. Where can I get this sav-a-thread kit? I didnt know they made them for S/P holes.
  2. I dont know on the threads. When we tried putting the spark plug back in... it would get tight for a little bit and then eventually get lose again. It felt like some threads were grabbing but then it slipped loose again. Is there anyone in the Seattle area who's done this before? Anyone who would be willing to do it for me? (I could pay you of course). I have bad experiences drilling out bolt-holes. Just ask my thunderbird and its new harmonic balancer :-)
  3. I was driving home tonight when suddenly my car made a loud popping noise, a small puff of smoke came out, and suddenly ran with a LOUD clacking noise. A bit of investigation under the hood shows that for some reason, my front drivers side spark plug shot out of the hole. We tried putting the spark plug back in, but it became apparent that the threads were stripped out. Has anyone ever repaired these threads? (helicoil?). Is this possible? Who's done it?
  4. You forgot to include me in the list of transactions taht have not concluded yet... but I'll e-mail you to remind you (blue cargo cover)
  5. a new alternator for my Thunderbird costs about $250. Doing just new plugs and wires costs around $500. Dealers are all expensive, but Subaru owners have it good comparitively.
  6. I thought it might have been the cat, but the car was in no way cold when i tested last time. I had just driven about 20 minutes on the freeway, then arrived to over an hour long line. I kept the car running the last 10-15 minutes in a line, but maybe that wasnt enough :-)
  7. Well I thought you'd all like to know I passed. Either it had to do with the oil change, that emissions stuff I dumped in, or the fact that I left the car idling while in line this time (last time there was over an hour wait and my car started overheating).
  8. Hey everyone, I took my emissions test a couple weeks ago and failed. My HC's at idle were WAY too high, and at speed they barely passed. Anyway, I'm going back in to re-test tomorrow morning. I poured a bottle of this emissions cleaner I found at Schucks in, but I was wondering if anyone had any little tricks. Should I drive it hard and get it really warmed up... or should I try to keep it as cool as possible? It's not big deal if I pass or fail (which is the reason I've spent no real money on fixing it) because I can just register it with my aunt and uncle's name, as they live in a town that requires no emissions.
  9. Hey everyone, I thought that perhaps it might be related to my timing... so we checked my timing. It's right at 8 degress TDC with it attached to the #1 wires... looks like everything is as its supposed to be. Any suggestions?
  10. The WRX scoop is too wide. The hump on the hood of an EA82 is like, 20" and the scoop is 24" or something like that. Corky does this thing where he takes two hoods and works his magic on them to create one uber-hood, with a hump wide enough to accomodate.
  11. I can probably make it. My stock wagon can out-tick all of you, put together!
  12. I have pictures of my Ford Super Coupe I/C setup... but then... it's in a Supercoupe so it's probably of no interest to you. Sorry... I wont be a smartass anymore :-)
  13. Chances are I'm just going to go the bad-person route and register my car out in Duvall where my family lives (and therefore not needing to do emissions testing). The fact that it fails, however, says that SOMETHING is wrong with the car. I wanna go to an effort to get it looked at.
  14. So I took the emissions test here in WA state, and I was my HC (hydrocarbons) failed. At Cruise speed, they were at 179 (limit is 180!) and at idle they were at 353 (limit 220). Anyone have any idea what to look at to get this repaired?
  15. This question confused me at first... I was like "aren't all 80's GL Wagons EA82s anyway?"
  16. I think the general consensus is that i have the most common Subaru there is :-) http://jagologs.dyndns.org/subaru/subaru1.jpg
  17. I think Tex can come pretty close to 170hp with his engine if he gets better exhaust and gets everything all tweaked. He's done a lot to his engine... I just hope his stock internals can take it!
  18. Dude, based off these replies, I'm starting to think it could be related to that hose that you pinched off towards the bottom of the engine (I don't recall what it was related to but I think it was EGR). I bet since it still has a minor leak, it could be causing your problems. You don't think it could be related to removing the smog cannister do you? Are all those connections on the intake plugged up? Should they be plugged up in the first place? Just some thoughts...
  19. So I just finished up some more work on this. Here you can see I drilled some holes for more volume. And here you see i've lined the outer ednge of the speaker in foam, to seal it off to the gate. I'll be getting some fiberglass insulation soon (where can I buy something like that?).
  20. You also might want to talk with Tex. He's in the process of (should be done next week) of putting a spider intake onto his EA82T.
  21. So last night I rotated my tires. Right Rear switched with Left Front and then LR switched RF. Anyone who saw my tires at Evans Creek will know my front tires were bald as hell. Now... the car has a pretty serious shake. It used to shake on the freeway before, but now it's gotten slightly worse. Instead of a death-rattle at 75, it shakes at any speed above 50 (and most speeds below 50). I've checked the air pressure in the tires, is there anything else anyone can think of? PS. Another issue, most likely unrelated... The tread on my front tires had very uneven wear. The outside of the tread was bald as can be, but the tread on the very inside was still good. Any ideas?
  22. The exhaust hose was gone when I bought the car. I've never actually seen one intact on a subaru. Its just a hose from the exhuast to the intake... takes the hot exhaust air and heats up the intake air so your car warms up faster. As for lowering job... I'm not sure if you're making fun of me for the torn boot or something else. The car is stock. That picture is from up above while it was parked on my gravel driveway.
