I have a 2.5L in mine and it is very good. At around 70,000 miles or so I had to get the 5 cam seals replaced cause they were shot. Got the timing belt replaced at the same time. Only cost $500 at a place that works on only Subarus and Volvos. It makes some odd ticking noise when it's cold, but they said it's nothing to worry about. My $.02

I found that the other day too. I typed in "Subaru 4x4" on Google image search. That pic is now my on my desktop.

I was talking to a customer at work the other day that had the same car I do, except 1 year older. I see that a lot in WI though. Anyway I asked what year it was and she said a 97 or 98, it was her second one because the first got totalled. Hit and run outside of Chi-town, her Legacy Outback wagon flipped and rolled 4 times. She broke her collar bone and her sister walked away totally unharmed. I think I'll be keeping my 99 OBW for a long time.

I don't have the url, but Holden also makes a cruck like that.

How about a lift kit for a 99 Outback wagon? They seem to be a bit different than the Brat.

The way I fixed mine was simple: 1. Go play offroad somewhere. 2. Hit a big hole too fast and break both of the stock ones. 3. Cry when you hear the price of new ones. 4. Go to Auto Zone and buy some for trucks and put them in the holes. 5. Be happy. They run if the car is on or off, with or with out the regular lights on, so becareful not to leave them on or you might need a jump. They don't look oem, but they don't look ghetto either.

I just moved up here from STL and now don't know of any places to go play in the mud. I see a ton of 96-99 Outbacks here so I'm sure someone knows where to play. There is even an older 4WD 3 door I see around. My car is missing being muddy and I feel I am neglecting it, lol. Thanks and have a great day. Geoff

I love my Outback. Offroad and on. I had to get the cam seals replaced and they did the timing belt at the same time, it was only $500 so I wasn't too worried, no problems now. I does ride very smooth and even is good at hauling hundreds of pounds of stuff from St. Louis to Madison with no problems. My $.02

Mine does this. I went to Madison last weekend from St. Louis with a detour through Chicago on my way home, about 1200 miles roundtrip, and it used about 2 quarts of oil. There was a film of oil on the rear of the car too. Whenever I stop it smokes like a concert goer at a Cypress Hill concert. It is worse the longer I drive and faster. Tuesday it will be going in to be looked at, hopefully not costing $4000.
