  1. ADDED A REAR DEFLECTOR: After looking and thinking I just went for it. I may have to repaint it a flat black to get a better match of the faded trim.
  2. That me my other D/D '98 TJ, 5" lift, 35" TrXus, Trailready beadlocks, Atlas 3.8 transfercase, 4.56 gears, ARB's front/rear, Warn 8274 up front. rock rails. Yep it works Saweeetness off-road too.
  3. Here are a few with the rear spoiler I picked up and a few without. Does this help anything or just for looks. A vote for or vote not. IMG]http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af105/washroad/bike007.jpg[/img]
  4. Rear Struts-- Almost forgot the best part, the casher thought they were shocks and charged me 3.50 each. $7.68 for two used rear adjustable struts
  5. I have a 88 GL Wagon and yesterday I picked up a set of used adjustable rear struts from PAP. They came off a 86 GL Wagon. These had the preload on the strut body. With my OME struts on the rear the fender height was 26" after setting the preload to the highest setting(which there is three) the rear was setting at almost 28". A bit much and a little stiff. Removed the struts and reset the preload to the middle setting and it dropped to just above 27". Quick test drive and it feels good. Stiffer but still soaks up the road nice. I will give it a few days and see if it settles down any more. The color code on the sprins was a purple/yellow. I couldn't tell any color code on my strut springs. Are all springs the same or was there any options like on a GL-10 touring? I have seen these rear struts on a few GL wagons at the PAP. None have been GL-10 only a STD GL.
  6. E-bay Look up clay smith cams I got a left hand and right hand for 12 bucks or right around there. I liked it.
  7. Congrats on the nice score.. Can you show us a few interior pictures so we can all cry over not know 94 yr old ladies? Like earlier post, was it garaged? Think the paint will buff out nice. Be the GL will be happy to be on the road again...
  8. Newbie to the Soobie ride, but have some input. From what you say, '87-89 GL wagon, 5 speed will work. As you know bigger wheels need more HP. With that being said I am going to try and use the stock 24" and see what happens on the logging roads. Like you, I have a well built Jeep(TJ) and picked up the Soobie as a new project/toy. I get picked up this '88 for $350 and got it running, then dropped on the black rims and destudded some snow tires.($140 wheels/tires) I get 28-30 mpg as a DD and have about 7K miles on it since getting it going. There are tons of lifts and mods here to help. Nice people with alot of knowlegde. Me I would stay away for turbo and update to a newer EJ2.2 for the needed HP's if bigger tires are required. That is off in the furture for me. Here is a picture of my GL. Oh total costs as it sits is under $800 bucks.
  9. First front drive CV axle swap. '88 GL wagon, the budget rig. P-A-P used axle assy. $18.50 + 3.30 core, now no more clicking grinding and general blow up noises. My old axle hand no inner boot and a ripped outer. Grease everywhere. Looks like front brakes are in the works soon.
  10. Yes. Great pictures. How was the outside temp?? The roads look like alot of ice under the snow. Did ever run normal air pressure in their tires or did anyone air down? Looks like a nice trip, don't think I would want to break down out there.. burr cold..
  11. Thanks everyone, that's what I was looking for. I would take the EJ22 and accept the adjusted MPG. At some point larger tires would come into play. Now just need to start the parts list and gathering of goods.
  12. WOW, is it local for you? I saw a 86 Wagon with 36K a few months ago and then it showed up at a local dealer. Only it is a 2WD. Nice find.
  13. I haven't seen much on what the mileage is on an EJ22 swap. That be an EA18 SPFI 1988 GL Wagon 5 speed DR Only been a Soobie owner for a few months and the Red Monster is pretty steady at 28+ mpg. Will the EJ22 match that or beat it? I know the 50 hp's will help. Oh I am running OME size tires for now. 205/60R14 (24") thanks
  14. Hey, nice looking Wagon, I just got started on mine and haven't even posted on the off road yet. Where did you get you information for DIY 2" lift? I am thinking of starting out with a mild lift. Keep up the cool pictures also. Here is what I have so far: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=112653
  15. So that's what ground clearance will do for you!! Looks good. I like the rear bumper, it looks like it will take a hit off a rock or a tow and just laugh it up... How did you get the nice weather, the whole state was raining all weekend
  16. The rims are off a Dogde D50 mini pickup. 14" 6 Lug Toyota pattern. I got the redrill instructions from the Off-Road section. Pretty easy if you take your time and use nice drill bits. I step drilled them like this: 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and final 1/2". The write up's do a good job. It came out
  17. Thanks, It's a Master Card deal for sure: Car $350 61k long block $100 misc waterpump $150 wheels/tires $140 Rally Slides PriceLess
  18. 205/60R14 D50 6 Lug rims redrilled to 4 lug. [/img] Pulled the studs and mounted the tires [/img] Test drove without being balanced and was fine less the freeway. [/img]
  19. Picked up some 205/60R14 M/S that I will pull the studs. Going to redrill some 6 lug Toyota and call it good. I'll see if I can figure out the picture post when I get it done. Thanks for the info on the gears.
