  1. Alright then. Do you know what size and length the bolt is? I tried to get the bottom one in but I dropped it in the engine and it disappeared forever. I think I might have to go to the hardware store and replace it. I guess I can take the old IACV with me to the hardware store and see what fits?
  2. I had the P0507 before changing the IACV. I will put in the last bolt.
  3. I jsut replaced the IACV on my 97 OWB. I only put in the top 2 bolts. I couldn't get to the bottom two. When I took it out it only had 3 bolts anyhow. Tho my idle isn't much improved. Still getting P0507.
  4. It just might be torque bind. It's a problem with the "Duty C Solenoid". I replaced it myself, but it takes hours and hours. I did it at the garage I worked at on the lift. Started at 11pm and finished around 6am. Getting into the trans extension housing takes a LOT of time, opening it has bolts in hard to reach places and then you have to put everything back together. Don't forget the Red Permatex.
  5. Got the new sensor on at rear left and the light went off. Still haven't found the diagnostic connector, but will take apart the lower dash to get a good look at it.
  6. Are you sure this is the right set of instructions? It doesn't seem to include the 97 Legacy.
  7. Got the ABS light on my 97 Legacy Outback and the car is up for inspection so I need to remedy this. I understand that in order to get the ABS codes I have to go under the dash, above the accelerator and look for the connector (it's yellow/orange in my case) and then put one of probes in the 6th pin hole. I found the connector but I cannot find the probes anywhere. I laid on my back and fiddled around for a while, but nada. My OBW is a split-year 96/97. I have some 96 components (like the coil pack) and some 97. Any ideas if there was a change between the two years for ABS?
  8. Maybe go to a dealership an hour or two away. It will likely save you lots of money. Look for a shop that does import/asian cars.
  9. Where in Boston are you? I'm in Cambridge. Maybe this can become an afternoon hobby. Definitely check for spark. It might be a bad ignitor or coil pack. Hard to say, but a good place to check.
  10. I know that feeling! I ended up using a LONG breaker bar. The impact did nothing on them.
  11. It looks great. I'll admit, tho, that I like the workout associated with nuts and bolts. My arms have never been stronger!
  12. Electric impact? Link!!! I replaced all 4 axles at the garage over the summer and used the air impact. Now that I am back at school and using hand tools my arms are getting stronger but MAN is it a lot harder.
  13. Aright, but is there a way to actually remove it from the vehicle entirely?
  14. The alarm trips randomly, whenever it wants to. You are saying I can find a black button under the hood and this will disable the alarm? Where is it?
  15. The red light flashes to the left of the steering wheel, preventing the car from starting. very annoying. I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery like 30 times for it to finally turn off.
  16. I cut the fires for the siren, but I am desperate to disable the anti-theft as it keeps going off and preventing me from using the vehicle. Any ideas?
  17. Have you replaced the coil? Is there no spark from all 4 plugs on the coil?
  18. Pressure leak down test and HC test are good indicators of HG failure.
  19. Alright, I'll get a can of MAF cleaner and try that. I also have to diagnose the fix the grinding noise coming from the neutral sensor.
  20. Ill admit that SnapOn is outside of my budget. I have a 260 piece Craftsman Mechanic Toolkit that I use when working at the garage. So far I have not been missing anything important. I would like a wrench with a ratchet in it, but I can live for now.
  21. Yeah I only use craftsman tools. The only way to go.
  22. The head bolts are 12 point 14mm, I think. I just did it the other day. I have them in the basement and can go down to double check.
