  1. Yeah, big thanks to SubaruFred for the exhaust leak. His suggestion and the $50 I spent to get it fixed probably has saved me hundreds of dollars in gas. Here's the other issue- the gas meter is off. I have a 16 gallon tank, but when it's down to E and I fill the tank I only get about 11 gallons in, which means there is 5 gallons still in there. Should it read E at 5 gallons? Any way to recalibrate the gas meter?
  2. Just drove 120 miles from New Haven, CT to Boston, MA. No codes and I think I am getting better gas mileage than I ever have.
  3. I think the best deal was finding this exhaust shop that actually will do things cheap and good vs the dealer who wanted $2200 to replace the pipes. Yup.
  4. So I went to the independent muffler shop across the road and they found a leak coming from one of the flanged on the passenger's side right before the converter. They cut out the flange and put on a metal pipe and welded it on, for $50. The hiss is gone and the car actually seems more responsive now.
  5. I am pretty sure this is due to ongoing exhaust leaks. I am headed over to a muffler shop to go get it checked out.
  6. 97 OBW AT. I had a muffler shop replace this cat over the summer with a brand new Wagner cat.
  7. I think you are right about the exhaust leak. I've had some work done down there and I am pretty sure I still hear hissing. I guess I need to find a good muffler shop. Quick question- how many O2 sensors are there per cat?
  8. Alright. I replaced the O2 sensor with OE sensor last week and cleared the code. Gas mileage came back. All seemed to be well until I filled up again and the CEL came back on, complaining of the same code. Any ideas?
  9. I lost an engine on the interstate due to a failed water pump. Leaked out all the coolant, fatal overheat. Replace it now.

  11. Drain the radiator, pull out the lower hose and t-stat, stick a garden hose in and flush.
  12. Just follow the small air hose coming from the intake ducting. It goes right to the IAC.

  14. I had a water pump fail on the interstate hours from home. Lost my engine. Replace those waterpumps.
  15. This might be a good hobby car to learn how to fix on. Everyone needs one of those.
  16. Is there a CEL for the misfire? I recent had a misfire that wasn't causing a CEL unless it was wet. Turned out to be the coil. Replaced the coil and life was good again.
  17. Get a multimeter and check the voltage on the battery. If it's good, then you might have a dead fuse somewhere. Get a test light and test the fuses.
  18. Check the coolant for hydrocarbons and do a pressure leakdown test on the radiator. In the meantime, I would change the oil, rad cap, t-stat and coolant.
  19. It's been in the negative digits and snowing a lot, so replacement of the O2 sensor will have to wait for a while. In the meantime I cleared the code and it hasn't yet come back.
  20. Unsure, but in the summers I regularly run my radiator on 100% water.
