  1. This thought just crossed my mind while gathering parts for my ej22 to ea82 dual range swap. I can't see how the starter still reaches the flywheel after loosing 1/4" of reach by adding the 1/4" adapter plate. U:banghead:nless the ej block pushes it closer by design/coincidence. This is what happens when you work on your car in the back of your mind:D Is it just plug and play?
  2. Im still in the "gathering parts" mode and thought I had read somewhere that the pedal assembly had to be swaped due to different clutch wire/clutch pedal connections. Maybe it was for a different swap?... or they dont know what their talking about, kinda like myself from time to time. whats next for your OBS, the spare tire gate?
  3. time for the frankenmotor swap! what did you do for your clutch pedal swap?
  4. Ive been wanting to lift the 97 OBS for a few months now. The opportunity presented itself and I jumped in head first. I didnt take pics until the last day of installation but it should be enough to see what needs to be done to do it yourself. If i could figure aut how to download my pics:banghead:
  5. 2door old school hatchback, ej22 d/r with the Outback suspension, breaks and wheels.
  6. Started tearing the suspension off today. Gonna leave the drivetrain alone and stick with the 3.90 gearing in the d/r for now. Ill just run the obs' stock tranny for now with the lift until I get the tranny adapter plate made and driveshaft refitted
  7. Allready bought a ea82 dual range trans, Pulling the suspension and brakes off of an outback wagon tommorow. Getting ready to lift and rally the 97 obs.
  8. Yeah, Im positive. My 97 Impreza Outback Sport came with 3.90 final drive ratio. Which makes it possible to do the ea82 tranny swap. The ea82 also has 3.90 final drive ratio. If I were to take the outback wagons trans and throw it in my OBS then I would also have to swap out the rear axle and gearbox to match the final drive ratio in the outback wagons trans. (4.11 final drive ratio, i think)
  9. what i had in mind was to pull the ej25 engine, trans and rearend. along with the suspension and wheels
  10. So ive been planning on doing the ea82 tranny swap into my 97 OBS. The one hiccup is me trying to talk myself into throwing the bigger tires on to complete the lift. My 3.90 tranny struggles as it is with the stock tires so I dont see how throwing bigger tires on the car will help, other than clearance and filling the wheel well better than the stocker tires once its lifted. My friend has a mid 90's legacy outback wagon with frontend dammage. So I plan on taking the suspension from that for the obs. We got to talkin about gettin more power out of the ej22. After a few combinations we figured why not swap out the whole drivetrain. I loose the low gear I was origionally looking for in the D/R but gain power, keep AWD, and 4.44 finaldrive ratio. The OBS is my daily driver that hits the trails on the weekends. So I guess what Im saying is... What would you do?
  11. looks good. Work in progress, then more progress, and so on. I like the alt. set up:grin:
  12. whats the cost range of building such a beast? After the $40 buck surcharge.
  13. gonna dive in and change out the timing belt sometime next week. your welcome to come over and add your 2cents. read something on here about swappin tranny parts into an ea82 to turn it into a 4:41 and or 4:44 final drive ratio! I might have to hold off on the stock install since i plan on cracking it for the drivelline swapout. Now money just has to appear from nowhere and ill be set.

  14. What do they go for at the junk yard? I have a feelin Ill be makin some trips to do a lift and whatnot. Any good ones out here in O town? I was thinkin D&B foriegn
  15. Yeah, I saw your build thread on slcsubaru.com. That was pretty brave, cracking those trannys with no experience. But thats how sh** gets done! I really dont want to pay a mechanic to do it for me, whats the other option? ea82 axels? And you say the stock obs tranny crossmember can be drilled to mount the ea82 tranny? sweet.
  16. i was told about an EA82 D/R for sale and all the info I have so far is it came out of a loyale. Did the loyals cary the EA82 D/R 5speed? there is a gold lable on it with 710441. if that helps
  17. where can I find specs on the adapter plate so i can waterjet one out. and when you say "modified tranny crossmember" does that mean drilling new hole mounts or cutting welding and fitting? whats the overall length for the new driveshaft? am I going to have to swap rear ends also, or are the ratios the same? Lots of questions. Gonna look for some transmissions at the junk y
  18. whats a ballpark figure on what it would cost do do such a swap?
