  1. There's a guy here in Oz that I know with a ea81t brat who's got a detroit locker in the back ( one of the very rare few! ) and he had some custom shafts made up for the rear out of a springy metal that is actually able to twist. He hasn't broken a CV or stubb axle since.
  2. Why not just use a dollop of that perma-weld goo stuff ? That'd probably patch the fuel up as a temp. measure.
  3. I've got remote start on my EA81T Brat and it's got a switch that connects to the gearstick. When the gearstick is forwards or backwards of neutral position it won't start. That takes care of the car driving off on you issue.
  4. I've got King springs in the front of my offroad beast, and generic 'heavy duty' springs in the front of my brumby. Both hold the front up nice and high. Be prepared to pay for decent springs though
  5. Yeah I've got an extra fuel line for a return. My sedan used to have an ea81t and the extra fuel lines were there for that, so it was plug and play pretty much for me.
  6. Does it supply enough fuel for the ej22 ? Personally I'm a big fan of using the Holden VL Turbo pumps ( can't remember model number ) from Bosch. I use the standard MY fuel pump ( the stronger of the ones that sit under the body, the the ones that sit in the engine ) running through a std inline filter to the Bosch pump through a large EFI filter ( VF08 i think ) into the engine. works great. Although I guess if the ea82 EFI pump works then you probably don't need the extra pump etc.
  7. EA81 temp gauge reads low from the EJ temp sender. I bought an EA81 temp sender and had it fitted to my radiator where the fan switch usually sits ( I use a manual switch so no need for it ) which goes directly to my EA temp guage. EJ temp sender goes to the ECU.
  8. My ea81t dyno'd at 120HP at the front wheels. That's with pretty stock internals, 10psi, TMIC ( with very rough piping ), Wolf3d, std headers. Pretty soon I hope to replace the TMIC pipes with mandrel bent stainless, and a new set of headers. It's not super fast, but fast enough to have fun
  9. Q1) How did you attach the rock sliders? looks like they're sitting where the 'seam' usually sits under the sills ? Q2) What was the onroad drivability like with the locked front diff ? I wonder seeing you had a rear diff at the front if you could do the old 'remove an axle' trick and just use an outer through the wheel assembly to hold it together when the axle is out.
  10. As a member of both boards, I would just like to say that I'd love to see some 8+" lifted subes with xfer cases, solid axles etc in Australia. But I just can't see it happening legally with our very stringent road rules about such things. I don't recall any threads bashing such on idea on any forum here or on AUSubaru. We've all seen SubaruBrat's pictures and read his build history and it's all sound .. but translating that into something 'legal' to drive in Australia would be pretty much impossible. When it comes down to it, both of here and AUSubaru serve their communities well, and I think the 'net would be a worse place without one or the other.
  11. Well done! Isn't the sound if it starting for the first time the best feeling? I also had some wiring issues when I did mine and took ages to sort out ... and just like you I had a bunch of different diagrams none which matched up perfectly to my engine/ecu but were close enough to work out in the end. congrats

    MY is the Generic term down here for pretty much any subaru that came with an ea81.
  13. welded ... open diff wouldn't have had a chance. You can see what happens the second time up when one of the axels breaks ... dropping it down to the equivalent of an open diff.
  14. Yeah, I did it twice before we even got the video camera out ... I shoulda stopped after the third time As for the reverse, when I did the 5spd dualrange swap I accidently hooked the reverse/4wd lights up backwards ... so anyone behine me knows when I'm in 4wd
  15. Here's a video from last weekend out behind redbank plains. There's a play area just in from the brentwood estate entrance ( obviously this location will mean nothing to 99.9% of viewers), The rock was steep enough that there was only one spot to approach it from that the bullbar wouldn't hit and stop me from even trying. I wouldn't have even bothered attempting it on a carb'd engine as it was way too steep and a carby wouldn't get any fuel. with the EJ18 though it didn't miss a beat. Listen for the Diff breaking during the second ( was actually fourth, but only recorded last 2 ) climb. At first I thought it was just a stubb-axel but the stubb is still attached but rotates freely, I'd guess I've broken something inside the diff, probably at one of the weld points. Rock Climb

  17. Dude, do yourself a favour and do the 5spd dual-range ( ea82 L-series ) gearbox instead of the 4spd. I've got my EJ18 hooked up that gearbox and it's sweet as! Currently my 4x4 selector is a rod that sticks out beside the gearstick. Is pretty much a case of all the way out ( 2wd ) or all the way in ( 4wd lo ) is too sensitive that way to do anything else. I'll be doing something better for a selector sometime soon.
  18. Try getting some from NZ ... that's where one of my sets came from... there's a few kiwi's on AUSubaru that might be able to hook you up.
  19. I think a lot of people drill and/or slot the holes to suit. I actually pressed out the pin and used an adaptor built buy a friend of mine that passes a bolt through the eye of the top. Is basically a piece of flat with the two holes drilled in it and a bolt passing through the centre ( welded on the back ) at an angle which goes through the eye and is nylock bolted on. / ------------- /===== | O * O |/ -------------
  20. We're not in wet season here either ... in fact we're in a drought with all sorts of crazy water restrictions. When we do get the occasional rain it isn't hitting the catchment areas for the dams so about all it's good for is wheelin' in

  22. Yeah ... locked rear. Even then there were a few spots that I just sunk into and had to get snatched out of. Usually in the spots where everyone else was sensible enough to avoid the deep stuff Two of the guys had slipperies and I wasn't really impressed by them ... nothing beats a locked rear diff.

  25. What parts exactly did you need off the XT6 to do the 5 lug conversion? just the disks/rotors, or was there more to it ?
