  1. Are they going to be doing hardcore 4x4'ing? I bent my 4" blocks and have since gone back to 3" front, 2" rear. that fits 27" tyres fine. When I get bigger tyres I'll cut rather than lift. I've noticed no real advantage in 4" as opposed to 3"/2"

    These
  3. Here's a highlights video ... features the other cars that I went with ... check out the Patrol at the very end of it! Video
  4. Nope, definately in low range ... why did you think Hi? It's very dry there ... we're in a drought, the top layer of everything is what we call "bulldust" which is a layer of very loose dust which acts very much like talc powder as a dry lubricant ... makes traction very difficult, hence the constant wheel spinning. It also nicely fills any holes in the track so what looks like a fairly even track will see you sinking a wheel into dust. Think of driving on the softest beach sand you've ever driven on ... then make it worse again
  5. Here's some video from wheeling last weekend. We went out to LandCruiser Mountain Park. This was my first real outing since putting the ej18 into the ea81 sedan. 1st video 2nd video 3rd Video 4th Video 5th Video

That's at LandCruiser Moutain Park. Is a 4x4 park ... google it for their website.

Here's a few quick pictures of my '82 leone. 3" front, 2" rear, dual carb ea81. I'm just finishing up an EJ18 conversion on her, so will be even more kickass shortly new engine ->
  8. Thanks! The colors on this one are a bit different to mine, but it should help. I actually got the relays clicking, I had a wire "yellow / black" which goes into A10 that needed to be on the ignition circuit. I don't even see A10 marked on yours? EFI fuel pump started spraying fuel out all the joins, so I'm off to get better hose/clamps before I go any further.
  9. Symptoms: 1) Ignition relay not clicking when turn key to 'on' 2) Fuel pump not getting power from ECU I've got a thick yellow wire from the Ig relay to +ve through a 20A fuse. Test light shows power to at least this point. I've got a wire going to Ignition power, Test light shows this gets power. Traced to wire into ECU and test light lights up there too. I've got another wire going to the Starter +ve. ( can't remember if I tested that, will test tonight ). The engine plugs are all plugged in, the Oil temp isn't, but the 02 sensor is. I'm told this should be enough to start the engine, but it doesn't. Any ideas ?
  10. Anyone got an electronic copy? I think we chopped out one too many wires from the loom when putting it into my ea81 sedan.
  11. Are these from Subaru or are they aftermarket? How much to ship one to Australia
  12. Why? because from what I've heard the gearbox becomes the weak link on a subaru with a divorced transfer case. Just trying to think of ways to make it more reliable.
  13. Yeah I think you're right about them being driven by CVs. Here's another option, I've heard of RX7 engines being mated to subaru gearboxes in a subaru ... you could in theory do the opposite then? use the rx7 gearbox attached to a subaru engine with the tailshaft going to a divorced transfer case?
  14. Does the VW gearbox use CVs or does it have a tailshaft? If a tailshaft, then a VW gearbox might be a better option to run a divorced transfer case as they're pretty tough. Although being mounted at the rear the gears would probably be the wrong way around ?
  15. I guess you could use ABS gear controlled by a custom controller to tell it when and where to apply brakes.
  16. I'm sure it's doable, probably not much room for a bigger gear though. I'm trying to look into my options through some gearbox places nearby.
  17. What about replacing the gear for first gear with something that will lower it? Although there's not that much room to increase it's size it would seem like the easiest way to approach it. It might make for some interesting driving on the road ( going from a really slow first to second ) but for a mostly offroad rig it would be worth it.

I got a pair of these shocks, I decided against slotting the bolt holes as it made them look at bit flimsy. Instead I'm going to press out the flat rod up the top and use an adaptor that goes through the bush instead. They're long enough for 4" ... at full stretch I reckon they'd do 6".
  19. Sounds like the engine stabiliser? It helps stop the engine from rocking. Definately want it there, may need to extend it.
  20. I went to an Jap wreckers ( this is in Australia btw ) and they had heaps of early 4runners and toyota surfs with them.
  21. At one stage someone did make Detroit style lockers for the subarus. There's a few floating around here in Aussie land. They weren't cheap ( > $1000AU ) and subaru owners don't like to spend money on their cars. It's certainly doable but would definately require a group buy to convince somebody to make some.
  22. There's a dude from WA, Aus on Ausubaru that rolled his a month or two ago.
  23. Yeah, 2 people can easily lift an EA81, even with the gearbox still attached I've lifted an ej20t with one other person before ... that's getting to be about the limit of my carrying capacity though
  24. Pull the rear seat out and tech ( self tapping ) screw a large galv. toolbox to the floor in it's place ... that's what I did
