  1. I thought I would still move after I tried 4wd too but it wasn't there.
  2. I'm sort of hoping it's a wheel hub simply because then I'll know what's wrong as soon as I get to look at the car and won't have to dig around. I don't know of any junk yards anywhere near me with old subaru, if anyone has one or two to sell please let me know!, $200+ online is more then I can spend right now. The reason I'm thinking wheel hub without looking at it yet is a few weeks ago I was driving down the road and my wheel almost fell off!!! It's redrilled for 6 lug but when I pulled over it was barely held on by 2! Those two were a turn or two from coming off. I'm guessing the mile or so I drove with the wheel a little loose may have rounded out the teeth in the hub? But wouldn't it still engage into 4wd with a bad hub?
  3. Yes I ended up having to coast it back to the gas station parking lot. It usually engages as soon as I push the button tho, I'm pretty certain that I wouldn't of been able to get it on either. I really didn't want to give up and leave it stranded. I wanted 4wd to engage so I could at least get off the road. I need this car to last a few more months until I can save a down payment on a new subaru lol
  4. Last week I was pulling out of the gas station making a hard right and heard three loud pops (maybe like 4wd binding) but in 2wd. The car is a 90 loyale 4wd m/t. There is a stop sign right after I pull out so I coast up to it, go to take off and just a whirring/grinding sound when letting out the clutch but no movement from the car... put it in reverse, nothing. Tried to put it in 4wd and it wouldn't engage. That part has me more concerned then the rest tho. My mechanic said he thinks I stripped a hub. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet (hoping to later today) to see if axle stub just spins in wheel but any thoughts? And should 4wd still engage unless I ruined the transmission?? It wasn't acting up whatsoever.
  5. It's a wheel bearing. I'm having a hell of a time with the ring nut tho.
  6. Does anyone have a parts # list for wheel bearings on a 1990 Subaru Loyale wagon 4wd? I really only have Friday (today) to get this done.. It seems the parts store gave me wheel bearings for a fwd because I don't see any way that they are going to fit.. I'll let you know what pieces I currently have when I get access to them again. Thank you for the help. Right now I'm stuck on the ring nut, but once that's out I don't see how the bearings will fit!!!...
  7. Or are there any wheel assemblies I can use on a Loyale from another car?, other Subaru?
  8. I'm at the junk yard and there is an old legacy manufactured 11/89. It has 5 lug wheels but I need the hub assembly and need it for a Loyale that is converted to 6 lug anyway.. Will the hubs off the legacy fit the Loyale(1990)
  9. I don't need the control arm right!!?? It would be the wheel hub, correct? And when do you need a new wheel hub assembly instead of replacing the bearings and the races??
  10. So the mechanic just called me and said the bearing is bad and it messed up the (hub?, he just said its bad and it messed up the piece around it) and also a piece of the brake was broken.. He said from what he heard it's a nightmarish job and I may be better off getting another lower control arm or whatever.. ????. Any suggestions? Or does anyone have a lower control arm for a Loyale wagon 5sp n/a? Lol
  11. If it isn't a bearing my second bet is dragging drum brakes but I've never had that happen so not sure what it sounds like but the noise doesn't change with brakes applied or not.. Dropping it back off at the garage tomorrow.
  12. Also the noise started out being when I would turn right and immediately stop if I turned the wheel to the left, now it doesn't matter if I'm turning or straight and I can't do anything to get it to stop now. It is an intermittent noise tho and it's a screeching sometimes also a noise I would want to describe as a "knuckling" and when it's getting good it sounds like someone is under the car banging or knocking on the trunk.
  13. I'm starting to think it's probably a brake problem.. I just bought the car last month from this forum! It's a 1990 loyale 5speed 4x4. I haven't done anything to the car other then change the exhaust. It has 15" 6 lug rims on it now.... I'm going to take a look at the brakes first and also check out the rear differential this weekend and see what I come up with. I wanted to put new brakes on it anyway because they were making noise like they wanted to be changed..
  14. I thought I had a bad wheel bearing, so I dropped the car off at my mechanic... He calls me today and said he isn't sure what the noise is or where it's coming from but his money would be on the rear... I thought that sounded highly unlikely. I've never seen someone on here talking about issues with the rear!!! Any suggestions how to check it or has anyone had or heard of it going bad? I know it's a moving part so it is possible to go bad but I think there are too many other things first.... And as far as still thinking wheel bearing, the hub that I believe is the culprit gets hotter then the other side hub after driving. One is hot to the touch the other barely warm? Thanks

  16. Yeah defiantly using stainless.. Is 2.5" an alright size to use? I want a better sound not performance as that's asking way too much lol
  17. Hey everyone!, I bought the Loyale wagon off of caspice ???? and am thinking of putting in a cat back exhaust this weekend or the very near future. I was wondering what you are running or would suggest. Thinking of 2.5" cat back to a performance muffler with maybe a 3" output on muffler.
  18. Spoke to the owner about it and he said the lift is suspension and the camber is off a little in the front.. said an allignment would b fine and fix it, should I be waryof this or try to tackle the project?
  19. Does it matter if the "drivetrain" isn't lowered if they put 15" rims on after the lift?
  20. So I wanted the 87 gl ghost had for sale but that didn't work out, but I found a 92 loyale for sale locally with a 3" lift. I was just wondering some things to look for when checking it out and also what are some things if any to be worried about with a 3" lift..
  21. haha wow nevermind would of helped to been looking at the panel lol plugs in the switch for the window. sometimes it just helps to walk away for a min i guess
  22. Im switching the doors on my 94 loyale power window and lock (front passanger) im left over with a plug with 5 wires 3 blue i think i red and maybe black.. Its about as long as the one for the mirror. Was just wondering where it plugs in thanks!
