  1. Arthur, don't forget to check the forum "Products for your Subaru" and get the 5% code for Rockauto.
  2. The Gates kit I bought for my wife's XT had a Chinese water pump. I was very disappointed and did not install it. I think, may be wrong, Aisin is a factory water pump. All the components in the Aisin kit were made in Japan if my memory is correct, this was a few months ago. I used an Aisin kit on my daughter's 2010 Impreza. Will install an Aisin kit on the EJ22 I am putting in my Brat. I'll probably get it from Rockauto also along with seals and gaskets.
  3. You want the "AISIN TKF006" kit. The Aisin kit comes with high quality components and water pump. Many of the others may have Chinese parts.
  4. Following your swap closely, thanks for the updates. I have a 87 Brat, bought 20 years ago this November. Just purchased a 93 legacy for my 2.2l swap. Have to use my 4 speed dual range also. Older Subarus are not that easily found in my neck of the woods.
  5. You can pull both, repack with grease, reboot and flip them to the other side.
  6. Number 16 was the problem with my 87 Brat also. Seems like I remember splitting the the base horizontally about an inch or so past where the pin went in. Using a SAE bolt, nut and locking washer compressing the collar on to the shaft. This was a popular shifter tightening procedure many years ago. I would guess I did my 87 well over ten years or more ago and it is still tight to this day.
  7. Yes it does, and for the most part Subarus are easy to work on. Biggest issue I had was getting that new AC stretch belt on. I used a piece of cut milk carton. Work great on my wife's Forester a year ago. About kicked my butt on my daughter's Impreza. I rechecked to make sure it was the right belt.
  8. I still use 10w30 in my 87 Brat. Why such a heavy grade oil?
  9. Just finished my wife's 2011 Forester XT brakes Sunday. She has well over 124k miles and that was the factory pads. Not bad Subaru! The easiest brake job I think I have ever done. Replaced my daughter's timing belt/component set on her 2010 Impreza today. I keep on I will be a part time Subaru mechanic!
  10. Do you have your return line still hooked up? Should be on the fuel filter under the hood in front of driver's side. You may need a fuel regulator to reduce pressure going to the Weber. I think mine is set for around 2.5 lbs. fuel pressure. I think all I have is the vacuum line from distributor, wire to chock and fuel line along with throttle cable of course hooked to mine. All other vacuum lines capped or removed.
  11. I have the Magnaflow oval Stainless Steel. Nice rumble form behind or if your WOT. Otherwise relatively quiet. Don't remember the model but it was 2" inlet/outlet and same length as factory.
  12. What I did with mine many years ago and to the best of my memory with out climbing under my Brat. I drilled completely through and used a bolt, nut and washers. I split the collar so when I tightened it down it would clamp it tight.
  13. Did my Brat many years ago just like GD posted. May have gotten the idea from him! Worked pretty good to the best of my memory.
  14. I installed 2003 or 04, can't remember, Impreza RS seats in my Brat back in 04 or 05. The inside mounts bolted in to the best of my memory. I had some 1" steel tabs cut to tab the outside over to meet the factory holes. Was really simple and only took a few hours to install.
  15. These same rocker panels are currently on my 87 Brat. Oldest brother owns a body shop and installed them for me. Then sprayed them with a textured finish that he called rock guard. I got the impression from him they were easy to fit.
  16. That's what I did, I could not remember the size. If you have the Magnaflow "Y" pipe you may have to elongate the holes in the flange just a little. Took me maybe 5 mins with a dremel.
  17. The next SAE size up works on EA81 also. That is what I had to do with my 87 Brat when I installed a new Y pipe.
  18. A 2" lift would most likely solve your issue. In the back of the fender is it hitting the mudflap? If so trim it. In the front if it is just barely scrapping try rolling the edge of the fender in. When I did those two things 195/75-14 all terrains worked okay on my 87 Brat. I was using Pug steel rims. First 5-8k miles if the steering was locked and I hit a pothole, like in a store parking lot, they would scrape on the front. After 5-8k never heard them scrape again.
  19. A 2-gal fill up is too small to figure mpg accurately. My Brat, owned for 20 years this year averages around 29 mpg. But, I do live in the sticks so hardly any stop and go traffic. Load, wind, gas, foot and traffic can make a big difference.
  20. Yes, before the axle. Mine was factory, it was only 10 years old when I bought it. The resonator rusted out and I had 2-inch from the Y-pipe back installed maybe 10-12 years ago with a Magnaflow stainless steel muffler. It had all the factory hangers in place.
  21. My East Coast 87 had one, it was factory.
  22. Alright, actually it was like a hatchback station wagon looking Geo Metro, with an auto! Plus a three hundred pound driver! Still beat em, barely!!
  23. I beat a car once with my Brat racing on our plant site road coming from a little air strip. Sadly it was a Geo Metro! Even more sadder it was an auto Geo Metro. But, I beat em, lol!!
  24. Does the SPFI pistons bump compression ratio up to premium fuel required level?
