  1. Noted, Luckily i have an 81' brat That i'm pulling parts off of, which is hopefully where i'm getting my replacement part. Thanks for the tips:headbang:
  2. I know you've helped me, but i still fail at removing the dash off my BRAT. If i can ever figure out how to do it i can send u one with a tach .. course at this point i seem to be making promises that i can't keep for lack of deconstruction skills. :/
  3. Ya Good luck is what i'm going to need So for clarifiaction the plasitc clips that i need to squeeze off are round (almost the size of a penny, but much thicker) and have four points on them? do i just need to squeeze two of these points to get it off? Going to try this tomorrow afternoon as soon as i get back from work
  4. Short Version for anyone who doesn't want to read my attached story:popcorn: HOW do i remove the wiper post from the wiper arm inside the vent space? I remove the bolts holding the post up (sorry BOLT since the other one's now not connected to anything after being MELTED) I see plastic holding pieces, i can tell if i should pull on them or if they screw off.
  5. Nice ride, i picked up an 81' brat last year to steal parts off of, but it doesn't run, in fact the heads have been pulled off and the cylinders are a lil' rusty, startin' to feel like i paid too much for it. I'm hoping to get my 79' looking half as good as that, keeping the old carpet for now, just put it through another hose-down and cleaning scrub/ vacuum treatment, i think the old smells are finally out
  6. Hey congrats! .. I, on the other hand, still fail at removing the dash on my gen 1 brat.. otherwise i would have offered u mine
  7. Sooo I try to be a site regular, but everytime my BRAT breaks down i end up spending months trying to figure out logistics of fixing it and then next thing i know its been 6 months since i visited last So HELOOOO all Latest fix: water pump was making super awesome happy grinding noises back in march... Had kinda been making them ever since i first started resurecting bratticus but one day it got REALY bad... Easy enough fix right? Well sadly as i was shutting the hood the drivers side hood mount poped clean off ripping chunks of metal with it.. Soo for the last few months i've bee trying to figure out how to move a car that doesn't run to a place where I (or someone with experience) can weld it. AND not involve my MOPAR loving father in law who likes to remind me that any work done to bratticus is worth more than the car itself (hurtful words if i do say so myself). Anyway turns out i had a friend visit this week who is somewhat skilled in the art of welding, and somehow i convinced my Father in law to bring over a trailer and tow bratticus to a friends shop. Sorry, point of this post now comming up... Now the water pump is fixed, the hood mount welded firmly back together (with ome slight line issues which im not worried about) BUT as my friend finished the last weld my father in law decided to spray on the primer and paint to seal up the metal from rust.... My father in law is a pretty smart guy, but for some reason he felt like rushing a little... so the now steaming scalding HOT paint drips down onto the PLASTIC of my wiper post assembly and melts it all gone HOW do i remove the wiper post from the wiper arm inside the vent space? I remove the bolts holding the post up (sorry BOLT since the other one's now not connected to anything after being MELTED:Flame:) I see plastic holding pieces, i can tell if i should pull on them or if they screw off. Again thanks for reading the long post, Just need some tips to remove the wiper posts so i can replace it. and get Bratticus back on the streats
  8. Thanks for the help guy. Before installing the Carb i had check height and function, but looking back i noticed that the bowl was not filling up (gas was barely sitting in the bottom of the glass circle). Interestingly enough i was workign on this with a friend and he felt so bad (and stumped) that the next day he went out and bought me a new carb, which i was grateful for, but kinda sad cuz i was looking forward to the challenge of trouble shooting. So now i've got a car that's sitting around waiting for a new carb to show up.. hopefully i can intall it with no issues. Thanks again for the help.
  9. Turning the Fuel/air miture screw didn't change anything. Pulled a couple jets out but put them all right back Really all i did was pull it apart and change gaskets. I did have a question about the anti-diesel vale though. to check it do i need to pull the whole brass nut out or does the wire on it pull out? I originally thought it did but it doesn't budge with any sort of wiggling.
  10. Hey all i was just adventuring to rebuild/ clean the hitachi carburetor on my 79 BRAT , after putting it all back together and installing it my engine now runs SUPER rich(plenty of white gas smelling smoke out the tail pipe), doesn't sound right and won't idle..... I know it's not much to go on but any help would be welcome please!! .I feel like i just killed my baby! -Dave p.sp i must realy be an idiot i cant even type Carb right
  11. I have an EA-81 block thats been sitting for who knows how long without the heads on it, looks like the rust is light and so it could be re-bored. Just wanted some input. opinions, is it worth it to bore out the cyllindars say .2 or .3, and if so where can i find pistons to match the new bore? OR is this block only valuable as scrap metal? Thanks!
  12. Shoot me an email with a zip on it and I can send you some pics. Window cowl looks to be in really good condition, fender is meh, got some spots that are rusted through... still though if you want it I can send it your way... either way email me at dakrihanson@gmail.com and we'll talk about it.
  13. Thanks for the help guys, I love this forum ..other than the constant database error i have been receiving...
  14. Just wanted to knwo how to remove the window handle on a 79' brat? does it require a window removal tool? or is there another way to do it? Also how do i remove the gas pedal from the floor, it looks like it's riveted on? Thanks -Dave
  15. Hey Bro I have a drivers side fender and taillights (looks like someone is already selling you those) and the cowl under the window wipers Let me know if your looking for anything else and i'll see what i can come up with.
  16. bump i was wondering the same thing!
  17. thanks for the affirmation
  18. K after much looking i can't seem to find a molded carpet that will fit a 79' BRAT. But I have found on JC whitney carpet for the gen 2 brats does anyone know if the 2 are interchangeable.. my gut tells me no... why else would they specify 82'-86 BRAT. Figured i'd ask though. If not my next option is to buy some non-molded marine carpet and lay that in which sounds like it will be tons o' fun anyone have any tips that may help me from loosing hairs from my already thinning hairline? THANKS
  19. This list is getting pretty long i feel like mine are just going to get lost... BUT I'll post anyway cuz this is an awesome idea. 79' BRAT BLUE Carpet BLUE seats BLUE dash BLUE driver side window handle (crank) right side fender right side front bumper attachment thats it really the rest of the car is in good shape
  20. I realize no that the Blue dashboard is elusive so i don't know if i want to bother asking for it.. but i will any way Does anyone know where i can find a blue Dash for a 79' BRAT ??? now for the real reason i started this post... I'm trying to remove the current dash so i can clean the vents and check the heater/ fan console but i can't figure out how to do it. I'm guessing there are more bolts needing to be removed than the 3 on top of the dash... please anyone that has experience in removing a gen 1 brat dash i could use you help. Thanks
  21. GREAT NEWS!!! Bratticus has passed california smog! after 30 years 10 of which spent collecting dust and how knows what else, all she needed was a tune up and we're good to go I'd love to post pics but i can't figure out how to do it on this site ... a little help please?
  22. Just confirming for you my 79 BRAT has the same numbers etched in.
  23. I'll work on the pics, i think my wife took some today while i was was working on it. Kinda kickin myself for not getting some "before pictures" u know the piles of mouse droppings in the cab, the nest right where the spare tire should be, and the random hay stuck to spider webs throughout the engine compartment. Now it looks like a whole new car
  24. Hey everyone My name's Dave and i am the proud owner of a 79' BRAT:headbang: .. "The Brat" until i feel more creative. It makes me happy to find a huge forum of so may people that love this car as much as i do. Anyway i drove this car in high school and then it was passed around the family for a couple years until it ended up at the family barn (the place where all machines go to die:horse:) for the last 10 years. I am now in the process of rescuing it cuz it's such an awesome car. I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give, tips, or thoughts on what to do with a car that's been sitting so long. The fist problem i can find (besides the excess amount of rust) now is that it die's easily when I try to get moving, especially into reverse. The clutch cable is pretty loose so i'm going to tighten/ replace that and see if that makes the fix. Also any ideas where i can find ; Drivers side window crank (blue) Passenger side Front fender Driver and passenger chairs (blue) Thanks for reading my long post. Just had to get all that out, can't stop thinking about how to make The Brat run since i got my hands on it last weekend.
