Burping the cooling stystem...
I did recheck it after a day of driving and heater using. I had to put in about 2 more inches worth of coolant. I'll periodically check the level, but it runs great!

Burping the cooling stystem...
The cooling system is now fully operational. I drained the coolant by removing the lower radiator hose, so I could avoid breaking the little plastic drain plug. Then I disconnected all of the hoses and replaced the clamps with nice, new German ones. I unbolted the thermostat housing and replaced the tiny POS one with a nice, new, BIG Subaru one from the dealer. Photos: Old crappy one: Nice new one: Notice the difference in size and build quality between those puppies! Then I replaced the water pump, which was the genesis of this whole thing, because the bearings in the old one were shot. Put everything together and filled the radiator with coolant and fired her up. the BRAT runs great, stays cool, and the heater is warmer. No burping involved. Pretty painless procedure! SUCCESS!

Burping the cooling stystem...
Thanks GD. You told me that yesterday, but I got to reading threads on here and my mind began to wander... Overthinking it I suppose!

Burping the cooling stystem...
How do I exactly 'burp' the cooling system? I'm installing a new water pump and hoses on my BRAT tomorrow for the first time. Pointers?

Engine Question
Looks like you've got a perfectly good Weber on that bad boy! If you can, please post more pics of the BRAT! I'd love to see it. It sounds cool!

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
There we go. For some reason it didn't work my first try. That's a BIG discount. I will order from them unless I can find a deal locally.

Compiling database for Gen2 Brat sales evaluations
My 1984 BRAT GL cost $2000. Good body, good paint, minimal rust, beat up bumper and tailgate, extra set of steel wheels, extra door, good interior.

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
Thanks for all of the input you guys! KYB Gad Adjust wins in a landslide! Will be ordering those for sure. I'll try and remember to post pics of the whole thing. FYI, none of those Advanced Auto coupon codes worked. But thanks for the tip anyway!

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
So are those the GR-2's or Gas Adjust? I have read on here that the Gas Adjusts tend to ride stiffer than the GR-2's. Is that true? KYB is in the lead...

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
School loans are in and it's time to spiff up my '84 BRAT GL! I'm going to replace the rear shocks next week and I'd like a little advice on quality, rideability, and driveability. The BRAT is my daily driver and I don't do any off-roading (yet). So which is best? KYB GR-2, Gabriel Ultra, or Monroe OESpectrum? Ready...set...GO!

Mud flaps
Are gen 2 Subaru mudflaps interchangeable? Could I use flaps from a wagon or hatch, etc. on my '84 BRAT?

What transmission fluid do you use?
I have the Redline 75w90NS in my 4speed dual range on my BRAT. I really like it! Might try something else just for the hell of it when I do the 5 speed swap.

12th & E Burside BRAT
Nah, I wasn't at Superior. I have been there though. Stopped by to look for parts when I first got my BRAT. Met Ritchie there. Nice guy. And Thanks for the compliment! That rusty fender got replaced, looks much nicer now!

86 BRAT build up thread
Pick n' Pull is a RIIIIIP! I feel for ya'. Plastic inner fender, skid plate, dome light for my BRAT cost me $40 or so. PLUS the admission fee.

12th & E Burside BRAT
I drove by a black or dark blue BRAT with a white topper today. Are you on the board? That's the first time my 84' crossed paths with another BRAT on the road! :lol:He's the one I was driving:

BRAT Fuel Pump connector...
Yeah, I might end up ditching the harness and connecting the wires. Just trying to keep it (moderately) stock.

BRAT Fuel Pump connector...
Does anybody have or know where I can find the male end of the connector for a 84' BRAT fuel pump? Here is a photo of the female end.

ea81 confusing carb issue
I replaced my choke and that seems to have worked. The speedo needle isn't jumping and it's idling lower. Give that a shot if you become impatient.

ea81 confusing carb issue
I'm having the same issue with my EA81 Hitachi. I rebuilt it and it seems to be running smoother. But it still dies at a stop sometimes. GD told me that the choke might not be working properly. So you might want to give that a look see. I'm going to try and replace mine this weekend. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

BRAT Bed liner
I just found a few photos of one. It looks comfy, and a good way to deter scratches but I think it's a little too rainy here in Oregon to install something like that. Thanks though!

BRAT Jumpseat SEAT BELT question...
I bought some tan Subie seat belts at a yard today for the jumpseats in my BRAT. They are WAY too short. After reading all of the threads about jumpseat belts, I realize now that I need the longer belts it was designed for. Does anyone have them or is there ANY KIND of seat belt that will fit? So frustrating.

New Project/Great Find
Cool. I might give that a try!

New Project/Great Find
WOW! It looks great. What a good find, too. I second the bumper. What did you use on it? Also, how did you get the wheels looking so great?

BRAT Bed liner
Is there anyone who has or makes the liner or carpet for a Gen 2 BRAT? I don't think I've ever even seen a picture of one come to think of it... Just a bit curious.
