Swapping a manual to an automatic
HAHAHA! Nah, She's a keeper and helped me buy my BRAT and hatch. She's definitely a old school Subaru supporter. I'm thinking I might just do the clutch job and make her learn stick.

Swapping a manual to an automatic
I've read bad things about the 3AT on here. I think 4EAT would be the best choice. I would say that an instrument cluster is pretty important for a first time driver!

Swapping a manual to an automatic
Ok... don't kill me for asking this. I am thinking of swapping out the manual D/R tranny for an automatic on my new '84 hatch. This car is going to be my girlfriend's once my BRAT is back in commission and she has no interest in learning stick (this would be her first car). I'm assuming the swap would be straightforward (change tranny and shifter, remove clutch pedal, etc.). Has anyone tried this? Any info would be appreciated. It should be noted that the clutch needs to be replaced on this thing asap anyway. Thanks!

oregonians & washingtoners, you guys ever been here?
I've been here. That green BRAT is almost mint, but the guy wont sell it. He has about 8 BRAT's. One is showroom new. Hidden in his garage. The others are pretty trashed. The prices are pretty damn steep ($400 for a door), but I've seen some rare spoob out there. It's a nice drive out there in the summer.

BRAT/GL Exhaust interchangeability
Are the pipe lengths and bends, muffler, hangers behind the header on a Gen 2 BRAT the same as other Gen 2 Subarus? Obviously the wagons would be too long...

lifter noise
Drain oil. Remove valve covers. Adjust valves. Recheck a bunch of times. Install new gaskets. Bolt valve covers on. Fill with oil. Start engine. Listen. Repeat if necessary. That's all I got.

Mud flap bolts
Interesting! I decided to just use bolts. nuts and washers. It was kind of a pain to install the flaps without something holding the nuts on, but it works just fine. I'll pick up some of those clips next time I'm at a Knechts.

Mud flap bolts
Ah yes, I am starting to recall. Is it just the hex screw or is there a nut that it screws into? Great profile pic btw:D

Mud flap bolts
Finally going to put the front and rear mud flaps on my '84 BRAT. What bolts do I need to grab from the hardware store?

Show me your dipstick... transmission capacity question
It's possible that your dipstick isn't original. That would be easily confusing.

Subaru Brat Hotwheel in the works?
We should start a campaign to get a Gen 2 BRAT hot wheels made. Hech, maybe even some other older Gen Subarus. A group of Star Wars fans did this on a forum and got Hasbro to make a figure of an extremely obscure character. We can do it!

I'll be the first to say it. Ge a Weber. It should have been the FIRST thing I did when I bought my BRAT. But I suffered the perils of the Hitachi. This thread has a ton of info. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29778- Whats your gas mileage with what mods?
-1984 BRAT GL -Weber 32/36 DGEV -4 spd Manual DR -stock wheels, no lift -all emissions crap gone -NGK plugs -blocked off EGR -Shell Rotella T 15w40 -about 30mpg highway (BIG hills) /city mixed with HARD driving- EA 81 Carb Issue
A carb rebuild never hurt anybody. Well, maybe some people It could be a number of things, but I would get a rebuild kit and check all of your vacuum hoses or do as others will say and go for a Weber conversion. Easy and WELL worth it.- It's time! Carb rebuild
Go with the Weber. You want the 32/36 DGV with a SHORT air cleaner. You have to get the adapter plate, and do a bit of modding, but nothing crazy. You can get rid of virtually EVERY piece of emissions crap. TONS of information in this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29778 What part of Oregon do you live in?- Bogging Down on Freeway Hills
You don't have a secondary unless you have a Weber. You will DEFINITELY know when the secondary opens on a Weber carb.- *New question!* Stuck trying to dismantle EA82 Hitachi carby for rebuild
BIG screwdriver. It'll come out.- Bogging Down on Freeway Hills
You aren't going to put strain on the engine, keeping it a 4k. Keep it in 3rd and bring it to red line. That's what these motors were built for!- new brat score
Niiiice! Still curious as to what you paid. List anything you may want to sell here. And...Pictures please! - Riddle me this Batman
