  1. Easy to change, I had never done it and it only took me about 5 hours. I had a haynes manual to point me in the right direction. Mine was not broke, changed it for peace of mind. It was fun actually.
  2. Gave up on this one- 421,000 results. The free vin check was $30
  3. I read that same thread. And every other. And the Manual. Tried every combination. Tape works well
  4. It is getting power to the solenoid, that is one of the first things I checked. the solenoid clicks like is is working (the old ones and the new one.)
  5. No Joy. New OEM purge solenoid, tried to clear multiple ways as posted here and in the manual. Nothing works. (except electrical tape over the light)
  6. I hook both up, start it up and the light is off. Wait 2-3 minutes and the light comes on and stays on. No flash, no flicker, just on. Let it run for 5 minutes, solid light. Turned it off, unplugged both connectors and started it back up. Light came back on in about a minute with a code 35. So I think it is clearing it but it comes back because the problem has not been fixed. The new Purge control solenoid gets here tomorrow, hope it will clear the code.
  7. Thanks!! I have been looking for the answers to those connectors for quite a while....
  8. I am wondering the same thing, what do they really do? I have a 1989 DL wagon. When I got it, they were not connected but have a CEL code 35 I cannot get rid of. I think plugging in the white one is to read the codes and green is to clear them. When I plug in the green and turn the ignition to on, the car makes a humming noise and a clicking that seems to be coming from the fuel tank area. fuel pump? When the green is plugged in the CEL goes out but it still has the code 35. I ordered a new purge solenoid, tried 3 from the junk yard with no success (left battery disconnected over night). Will see what happens tuesday when the new solenoid comes in.
  9. I think I have read all of the posts on the code 35 problems/purge solenoid and have tried most of the easy suggestions short of a new solenoid. That is next. On my 89 DL wagon 2wd, automatic, 1.8, TB injection, I cannot clear the code. I have tried several from pick and pull, all have around 35 ohms of resistance, click when applying 12v with a jumper. With the car running there is 13 or so volts at the connector, I tried the 33 ohm 5 watt resistor plugged into the connector. The only manual I have is the haynes. I know the issue may be wiring but i need some inputs on the connectors used to check the codes. Under the hood on the drivers side firewall is where the check connectors are on this one, none under the dash. I plug the white one in by itself and I get the codes. Leaving the white one plugged in with the car running the light is still on. Plugging in the green and the white one with the engine running the CEL goes off. Plugging in the green one by itself with the engine off and the ignition switch on causes the clicking noise from the back of the car (fuel pump?) My question I guess is what does the green connector do? The hanes book is very vague. I took a picture of the connectors but I am not seeing how to attach it here. Im about to give up on the CEL, wanted to get it cleared to pass emissions in another state.......
  10. I looked everywhere, both of the hoses that were suggested were dry and in good shape. No weeping from the water pump. Put it on Ramps and pressure washed the entire engine compartment top and bottom to ensure no residual fluid remains. Drove it 30+ miles after that with no evidence of leakage. Time will tell. Thanks for the soobie support......
  11. Thanks, I looked in the Haynes book and see the items you are talking about. I will take a look tomorrow.....
  12. 89 Subaru DL wagon 1.8L automatic. Sometimes, randomly i smell coolant after driving the soobie. Is there a mysterious place it can come from that is hard to see? I have had to top off the tank but it never takes much. It never overheats, no visible leaks on the driveway, no smell on the interior. When changing the transmission and differential fluid yesterday, I noted one drop of coolant on the bottom of the crossmember aft of the oil pan. I just cant seem to see where it is coming from. I looked everywhere using a mag light and a mirror with no luck. Thanks love this site....
  13. I am looking for replacement front stabilizer bar end links (OEM or aftermarket) for a 89 DL Wagon, 2 wheel drive. I have searched this site and all of the info refers to newer models. I saw some Moog units that look like they would work but when I searched, Moog did not have them listed for that year. Any suggestions? Thanks
