  1. ejlain and slo5oh, Thanks for the responses, I found the SA-1 at Advance Auto Parts. Will give it a try at the next fill-up.
  2. Yes and yes to the power and fuel economy. Recently had to replace the knock sensor, you should have seen me trying to climb a small hill with the AC on!
  3. Thanks for the welcome Cougar, it is a great site. Helped me do the Knock Sensor myself and I even tried the headlight sanding to take the yellow away to better match the new one thanks to hitting a small doe.
  4. I'd just like to chime in also with my experience with a 96 Legacy GT Auto. It was my first new car and in the 8 and a half years of ownership (almost 91k), it has only failed to get me where I needed to go once. That was when the original battery died after 6 years and nine months. The only real problems I have had with this car was the oil pump seal leaking (fixed by dealership even though out of warranty period) and just recently, a CEL for the Knock Sensor. It was doing a google search for the Knock Sensor that I found this board and read about all the HG problems. I feel for the people that have had it and who knows, I may be one someday. I just wanted to give my story with the infamous Phase I 2.5.
  5. I too recently had this code for the knock sensor. After searching the board, I tried the easy stuff first, replaced fuel filter (needed it anyway), fuel injector cleaner and used some higher grade gas to no avail. Finally replaced the sensor, no more CEL.
  6. Yes your 04 Forester has side airbags, I believe this became standard on all Foresters with the 03 MY. And yes, the side airbags are in the seats, you can look at the seats and find the SRS tag.
  7. Here is another one that should be out soon: http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=100193
  8. Great forum, wish I had found this place sooner. I have a 96 Legacy GT Auto with almost 90k miles. I'm the original owner and have taken good car of the car, have not had the HG problems common on this engine and have never had any overheating issues. Outside of the CEL light (first time) that recently came on for the knock sensor, which is how I found this board and I am going to use the info I found to see if I can remedy this issue, the car runs great and has been a pleasure to own for 8 and a half years. Prior to finding this board and while helping my GF shop for a new car (she bought an 04 Forester), I was toying with the idea of trading in the GT for something new. Now after reading most of the posts about the AT problems and HG failures, I'm thinking no better time than right now. Would like to get some feedback/opinions. Thanks in advance, John.
