  1. just for thought i was having the same problem. It would run great until it warmed up. There is a thermo valve inside the air filter housing . When it opened up i had a huge vacuum leak. plugged it up no more problems. Should be on the drivers side of the housing
  2. ive changed all those 3 times in the past 100 miles. helped initially
  3. well new update. The brat will run for a mile or 2 under 45 great. Omce it warms up or of i try to rev ot oer 3000 rpms it bogs down and dies and i then it acts like it is running on 2 cylinders until i limp it back home. Gonna try a rebuild and see what happens. Thanks for all the responses. Styill starts up and idles fine. i think the bowls are just full of crud from sitting
  4. not sure if this is right but i dont think an 84 has an oxygen sensor. They were not used until the 87 model. Maybe someone else can confirm that.good luck
  5. Okay finally got my 84 brat to run after 3 fuel pumps and 3 filter changes. The brat sit for 3 years while i waited for the painter to do his magic so yes ive dealt with all the bad gas issues. AS long as im driving 45-60 easy no problems. If i try to push it or get it to downshift which it doesn't seem like it wants to do it acts like it is starving for fuel. then it will start chugging until it cuts off. crank it back up and away we go as long as i dont push it. It also seem that the auto will not downshift when i want to go into passing gear. Anyone had similar issues
  6. park uphill. turn your heater on high . Once the thermostat opens you should get a pretty good initial burp out of it. Once it starts to circulate it shouldnt take to long to get all the air bubbles out of it
  7. ok all i finally solved the mystery. Pulled the filter off underneath the bed that had already been replaced twice.I had replaced all the hoses except the one the goes from the tank side to the filter. Looked inside and had what appears to be small piece of the rubber fuel line. Im thinking that since it sat so long some of the hose had desinagrated over time because it still looked good on the outside. Still running a little sluggish but at least it run more than 100 feet before stopping
  8. its an original 85k mile car that my dad bought new and i am restoring it. There is gas in the filter under the hood. Not sure about the bowl. I guess it would be hard to check without disconnecting everything. I think it is a feedback model.. diverter on the filter?
  9. ihscout starts and idles fum . just dies when i get up to peed after going into third. The car sat up for 3 year outside while getting painted. I actually drove it over there initially. Like you i think the carb is gummed up, somewhere even thought drive it around in first and second at low speeds. The choke actually works and pulls off like it should. I did spray t some carb cleaner around the base and it does smooth out a little but i cannot located the source of a vacuum leak unless it the egr valve. Luckily there is an old Subaru expert about an hour from me and i may just let him rebuild it. im scared to touch the carb.
  10. gloyale since you seem to be the carb guy.. any ideas why my 84 brat stalls out when going into the 3rd bear. New filters and line. most of the time it idles fine. runs okay till i get it on the road
  11. ok heres the latest. Brat starts up and idles fine. Typical off idle hesitation . I can drive the car around in my yard through first and second gear. Once it shifts into 3rd gear(automatic) sputters out and dies. Continue cranking will get it fired back up for the next 100 foot run. I have a new pump, filters hoses. No kinks in lines which initially i thought was causing the problem. filter has fuel in it when it does out. I also noticed that on 2 occasions the fuel was making it to the top of the diverter on the under hood filter. Anyone had similar issues? ideas? thanks
  12. man thanks for the info and the graphics. Im getting ready to replace all the 4 miles of vacuum hoses on my 84 brat.At least i know what they do now!!! great write up
  13. yes i did. They are still in stock. The parts guy advised that all the part books were changed several years back and they cannot go back any further than 87. So unless you can find a counter guy who really cared you are almost out of luck without a part number. Thanks JONO on this one. I had actually ordered 1 off the same number but until it arrived it was a shot in the dark. I actually ordered 20 of them today. Hope they have that many. wait a couple of weeks to order yours so i can make sure come in .....lol
  14. picked them up this morning and the number you provided 791017130 is the correct number. Thanks. By any chance due you have the part number to the side door molding clips?
  15. thanks. Let me go find my order form if not ill be back first thing in the morning. Except for the round corner ones the others on the side bed trim and tailgate are the same i think. I actually had the two two round ones.Ill also try to load a pic of what i need
  16. Anyone have the part number by chance. Dealership ordered the wrong ones and claim they cannot locate a part number
  17. Thanks for the reply.Ill try the Holden Marina Blue. Didnt want to spend the money for a custom mix. It is an odd shade of blue though
  18. after unhooking the lines from the filter i used compressed air..35 psi to make sure the line coming from the tank was clear then i blew air from the fillert neck side to make sure it came out of the line going to the filter. It appears when i replaced the pump i kinked the line enough that it would gravity feed into the filter enough to make it crank and run a few minutes but the kink wouldnt let it fill up enough to keep it running. It doesnt take much to kink the line when you reaattach the pump bracket back into place with all the lines connected. The gas in my tank was 3 year ethanol and it had actually gelled up from sitting at my painters. Good luck it drove me nuts for awhile. Like you it ran fine until i replaced the pump. Its usually the simple stuff that causes problems and i was trying to overthink it
  19. Any ideas on what the blue color is called on the ea81 air filter housing. Mines looking bad on my 84 BRAT and im trying to keep it original as possible.Anyone tried to match it with another manufacturers color?
