  1. yup thats why i phyiscaly checked when in doubt go and check i have 50 of theese heads so not a big deal i'll keep my specs to myself lol if i strip a bolt i hili coil it or just get anuther head. oh and if i could spell and use good grammer i whouldent be a subaru mecanic id be a school teacher all good fun
  2. my other brats are a 79 with a ea 71 and a 77 with a ea71 and a 84 with 2.5 turbo automatic i whant to tbi the old brats with the ea 71 but have to cut down ea82 manifoild to get right width bitt hard whant to keep the coolant jacket intact but i'm shure it will work its a tiny bitt lean on ea81 so ea71 should feul just right
  3. yup ea81 tbi but its the 1rst gen body has a 4 speed high low and i put rear disks on it had it for 12 years dam good truck only been tbi for 5 of them put a 100 amp alt on it to use it to jumpstart dead cars at my shop and do parts runs
  4. put my touque wrench on those bolts 98 impreza head tried 30 clicked tryed 35 clicked tryed 40 striped the aluiminum tried 38 clicked very fine line so 35 is a bitt high but 15 seems a bitt low anyway they strip at 38 ft lbs on the short bolt roler train the ej 2.2 turbo striped at 33 ft lbs call me wrong boys clicked at 32 ft lbs anyway [ i was wrong ] i will suck it up theres the limits boys ps had to wreak to good heads to find out but hey for the cause and hili coils are cheap i will hili coil those bolts and post the tourque spec after
  5. i get this on alot its a wintertime problem up here the ignitor grounds through the coil mount on bottom bolt has a bad habbit of geting a bitt of corosion and makes a poor ground and will still spark but no injector pulse clean up the mounts where coil is bolted on to bare meatal and back of coil mount there is a raised aluiminum pad on back make shure is very clean and try agian i get thiss problem lots only time loyales get towed into my shop unless timing belt is broken
  6. may need a tach fillter like a gm uses ive had no trubble geting tach to work on ej covertions ej haress black with blue stripe ea harness yellow of coil leads mind you we have verry few digital dashes but it all works the same i belive if i remember right the digital dash was not so good whould replace it with loyale dash that has all 4 gauges and analog
  7. mines a 91 fun justy 2dr i put a turbo on it and 14 in aluminum wheels lightened it up probly about 120 hp 1200lbs gos like stink my bros svx couldent catch it in the corners pulls hard i go 1-3-5 who needs second or fourth i have a lifted 81 wagon with a 2.5 turbo twin cam seems boring after the justy its the quwickest subaru ive ever seen [ not the fastest ] and its a totaly capabble 4x4 go's anywhere i point it

  10. give the dash a good whack above the light thats out that ushaly turns it back on
  11. belive me i fixed my share of bad coolant sensors and harness but you dont learn anything if you dont meshure how whould he know what is going on or what he should see if you dont meshure it and the one thing ive leaned after doing subarus for 15 years is never expect to see the same problem on the same model of car it dose happen but evry car is an indavidual
  12. i call bull try and beak on i dare you hell try and strip one out good luck butt have one losen off good chance i use those bolts for alot of applacations and cant break them but on somting with as mutch load and vibrations your asking for it not being tight enuff oh well call me an over toruqer but my engines do not come loose ever and have seen alot of low tourqe specs in manuals that are diferent in the factory manuals and low toruqe wrenchs even my snapon one was out i belive that most of the subaru bolts are tourqe to yeild bolts when it comes to engine theese engines expand and contract alot and stuff moves i may do stuff different but there are hundreds of my engines on road and non died yet everything from ea71s to ef 1.2 ejs and eas they dont come back hell i'm not even going to knock on wood

  14. no all turbo ones one with bad rod one with melted piston one shop tore apart to fix lifter and couldent figure out how to put back together and some that are a ? whats wrong with them i only use the 2.2 or 2.5 dont like the 2.0 at all
  15. one more thing i treat evry customers car like its my personal subaru [ there are no bad subarus ever biult .]
  16. had two unhappy customers in ten years both when i sold a car for somone else have been fixing subarus for 15 years and have done thousands of them my shop only works on subarus and 90 % of my work is cleaning up other shops mess but its buyer beware if you dont know what the shop is doing or replacing it you fault know what you are buying expecting the shop to know is a bad mistake leting them throw parts at your car and gessing is unactcepible most of the substandard work i c is from the dealer becuse they get piad by the job and rush evrything so they get paid the qauality suffers because of thiss and the dealer like to take short cuts to save money on waranty eg not surfacing heads orbital grinders and ignoreing commen problems the best is when the customer complains and they say well we fixed that problem we fired that guy so problems fixed dosent help the car any sorry rant rant rant
  17. ive done my share of heads who cares what the book says i go by what the robot in japan do's have you tried to take those bolts off when there factory touqed garentie you not 15 lbs iv'e never broke any and never had any come loose and i threw my torque wrench away cause it was a liar all my engines are personaly hand toruqed with a strait bar
  18. dont mes with heads its hard to change giudes and have them stay in place just sevice valves and leave rest alone upgrade the rods to ea82 rod and berrings as they are stronger and wider berrings i whould put in ea82 pistons or ej2.0 pistons as the ea81 pistons were prone to breaking between rings check the lifters make shure bottoms are not hammerd have seen valve trains go 400000kms no problem oh and it helps to hili coil the head bolts that hold the valve train on
  19. ending up with a pile of dead 2.0 l engines seem to be a bitt weak have heads botom ends colecting cores but i dont use the 2.0 moters just two small what should i do with them ?
  20. looked at my brat did not have those wires on right side ac mabee just the 3 fuses nothig else ad on ?
  21. the ones on back of radio are for the clock option
  22. mine the glass fuses were bad on the ends and dident contact change all the fuses first up them 5 amps too the headlight fuses are top two in fuse box the one you show me i will look in my owners manual to c what those fuses on right side are for
  23. have two brats here one a 81 one a79 i could help you identify wireing if you like i just pulled my dash yesterday to do hearter core so have a good idea of the wireing or could take some pics for you
