1991 4EAT legacy -- no rear wheel drive
ivans imports replied to zyewdall's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWe found that if you put in the fwd fuse put it in fwd drive it 20 kms or better thiss will hold the awd soiliniod open and flush any crap that may be pluging it out. If this dosent work change the clutch pack and soliniod can be done with trany in car takes me about an hour to change clutch pack. Thiss is very commen problem caused by having diferent size tires or low tires or abuse.

Dealer charge for head gaskets
ivans imports replied to bgambino's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDoing that exact job today headgaskets in a 04 impreza 2.5 uses two half gasket sets. Timing belt water pump coged idler pully plugs fliuds. Customer bought own parts cost 800$ my labour is 12 hours + 150 plane heads my bill is around 1200-1500 depending on extras. Two day turnaround time started 9yesterday done 12 today. I cant figure out why the dealer dosent change the water pump or idlers its just silly not to.The last 3 cars i did heads on all 04 's all 156000-160000 kms the head gaskets seem particulary bad on thiss year

One with broken pistons one over heated both run still.I could see the timing chain skiping but not breaking i ran that moter at 8000 rpm with turbo no timing problems.I whould pull out one of the cam sensers and look to see if the cam is turning.

The piston comes out fairly easy then can gentaly hone it make shure you put a rag in it keep junk out and wash it good after.

What is this head?
Their is a late model ea71 that came out in 79 - 81 that had no stainless inserts in ex ports did it have ports for air injection ? probly a late model ea71 head. The late model one makes a bitt more power and has a one piece intake and water pump bolts to block.

over priced subaru parts canada
My other problem is that most of my customers demand factory subaru parts for their cars so that leaves me with just the dealer as a supplyer.

Mystery stalling when braking ??
ivans imports replied to SubeeTed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHad one that evrytime you came off hyway and hit brakes it stalled. It was sticking in lockup tourque whould not relese and as soon as you started car was ok. The lady had spent alot of money trying to fix it she had changed the ecu tps tune up o2 ect. It was a loose ground on the right side of intake where the main trans and engine ground go to intake. was left loose when dealer did headgaskets. Think if soiliniod looses ground it stays on till car is shut off.

Any Circuit Board soldering gurus
I repair ecus from time to time if you file down the end of a fine point soder pen and use a good flux core soder. Most boards are coated so have to clean any coating off. I use a big magnifying glass to c the cirucut in detail. I just did a ecu for 02 outback shop had pinched wire and burnt a trace was able to remake it with one straind of wire sodered across the burnt trace.

oil consumption
ivans imports replied to logic23's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen i do head gaskets i remove the pistons and clean out the oil ring lube holes. The bottom holes are always pluged up and makes for poor lube on bottom of piston. Witch may cause it to burn oil or hurt piston i knurll them when they are out to tightens them up in bore.

Had a engine droped off in a box is a early jdm 2.0 has a weird valve train with lifters in head like a ea82. Have never seen this type of heads before. Has anyone seen any of theese jdm engines apart before. To bad the shop who worked on it tryed to remove the lifters with a torch and damaged one of the heads. Engine only had 100000 kms on it had a complant of ticking shop got over there heads and ruined a realy nice engine. It a shame i'll i could find wrong was a bad front crank seal. Was probly pulling air into oil pump making it tick- 97 OBS no heat/fan switch stuck on 4
