  1. It is possible that the CD changer and the defrost share the same ground or some sort of power.
  2. Thats is a great price on the belt. Please post a price for TB plus crank, cam, and oil seals as well. All things that need to be addressed with the 2.2 engine. I can not stess to you enough the importance of those seals. If any of them go you will have to pull the belt off again. Do them now so you don;t have to do it later.
  3. Anything after 07/1989 is considered 1990 model year. Somemakers are bumping it up to 05 of the previos year.
  4. I thought the timing being off by a tooth would cause the car to operate in a strange matter but josh said that it shouldn't make that big of a difference. If it is way off I could understand. Perhaps not allowing the exhaust gasses to leave the engine properly. He said the car is running good thought. Try the "burp" before jumping to any other conclusions. Hope this helps.
  5. I want to say 99 was the start of the gen II 2.5 Do a search for 2.5 head gasket on the board here. I am sure you will ge the answer you need. If not send a PM to Josh (legacy777) and he will be able to tell you for sure. Hope this helps
  6. I am wondering if the radiator was removed to replace the seal and belt and they didn't burp the coolant system. Try this: Take the radiator cap and bleeder screw (top of radiator on pass side) Fill the coolant if it isn't already Start the car Turn the heat and fan to high let idle untill it reaches normal operating temp and T-stat opens If the fluid goes down fill it with more coolant/water mixture If your T-stat does not open then I would highly reccomend a new OEM unit. DO NOT USE PART STORE T-stats! Be sure you install it the correct way or the results won't be good. Hope this helps. Please try this and get back to us.
  7. I would have went with an OEM waterpump. I bet you had to drain the water to do the pump and I am almost willing to bet that you didn't get all the air out of the system. Please take our advice and burb your system. I would hate for you to replace your engine because of air in the system. Please just try and see what happens. If you lived near me I would do it for you at your house as I have had to do it with my legacy.
  8. so if I get a 5MT tranny from a 90-94 legacy or early Imprezza with the 2.2 it has the cable system. I worked on an 87 GL wagon with the cable clutch. The seller said the clutch was shot. Turned out is was out of adjustment. Thanks for the help Josh. I never realized how much stuff you have done to you car untill I was looking at your site. I am a whiz when it comes to throwing the wrench and fabbing stuff but if I did all the stuff you did, I Don't think my car would be running as well as it does. Hey if I fly you down and pay you, will you help me change my engine and tranny? Maybe you might want to go to Disney on me? Just a thought.
  9. 2.2's blowing head gasket...unheard of. More info would be good. My car seems to run poopy since I changed the timing belt and gutted the cat. Since then is seems it is going down hill. My tranny is acting finiky too. Maybe I will find a wrecked legacy when my engine finally goes to the great j/y in the sky. I most likely will stick a 5mt into my car. While I have the engine out would be the perfect time to do all the work that needs to be done so I can use the 5MT setup.
  10. Check on ebay. You can get a pretty good, low milage engine there for a good price. You might have to change the wiring a little bit if you buy an engine over 94 but I do believe 90-94 are the same. I'm sure Josh will chime in and let me know if I am wrong. I am heading down that path myself so I too was weighing my options. Keep us informed with what you decide.
  11. For a 97 I would replace the TB at 60K. While you have it off you should replace the waterpump, cam seals, crank seal, oil pump seals, tighten the oil pump screws (on back of pump), replace tensioner and idler pulleys. Hope this helps. If you choose to do these you will get many more miles out of your car. I have 239K on my 90 legacy (same engine) and it is running pretty good.
  12. I will post some pictures when we get back...I will be thinking of you as I get stuck in the mud....LOL
  13. SWEET!!! Thanks Raven. I look forward to Saturday. I the FSB's want to go wheeling that is cool too. I love some sick mud. I dont mind riding shotgun with the Fords after the Roo's play.
  14. Solder is a very good idea. Thank you for metioning it. Alot of times in the car audio profession we do not use solder because of the damage the guns can cause in vehicles if dropped or not handled properly. If the proper butt connector (Guage, I would use the yellow) is used it is just as good as solder.
  15. Burping = Remove the bleeder screw on the pass side of your radiator, remove radiator cap. Start vehicle turn heater on to high (temp on high as well) Let vehicle idle untill it reached normal operating temp and thermostat opens check to see if the coolant goes down If it does simply fill untill coolant runs out of bleeder hole. Wash....rinse...repeat....... Go from there. We wish you the best of luck. Most of have gone thu overheating problems...
  16. I don't think the clunk would be the piston slap. Where does the sound come from? Inside the car or the engine compartment?
  17. I found a link to some sweet pictures of Nissans in the ONF. My legacy is bone stock but I will let others play if they want while I take pictures with the digital cam. I am bringing the laptop with GPS so I will load the pics at the end of the ride so we can see what we think. I am bringing tools, come-a-long, shovel and an air tank but if someone has tow straps or chains and a 12volt compressor, please brinf it. I want to hit that sand something fierce. Here is that link..enjoy! http://www.kingslayer.net/muddin/Ocala/index.htm
  18. Lets keep in mind I am bringing my bone stock legacy. I just want RSVP's by thursday night so we can agree on a meeting place that would be best for all of us. A time too.
