Disconnecting 1997 Legacy alarm
If you have starter kill you will need to find out what color the wire is under the dash and then trace it back to the rely connections for the alarm. Dicconect it from the relay on both sides and then splice it back togehter with a butt connector and be sure to crimp it well. Electrical tape wouldn't be a bad idea either. I mean both together. Contrary to popular thougth.....electrical tape IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!

Disconnecting 1997 Legacy alarm
If your alarm has starter kill then you just can't simply "kill" the alarm. Doing this will not allow you to start your vehicle properly.

Hissing Power Steering
Does it affect performance of the power steering? Is it just plain annoying? Does it only make the sound when it is lock to lock?

Disconnecting 1997 Legacy alarm
I think I might have the best solution for you. Go to www.the12volt.com and register..it's free to join. Once you have go to the alarms section or the forum and ask someone on there how you can go about disarming the alarm for good but keeping the KES active. They will be able to tell you for sure. They might even have the info on your alarms model on file and you could download it. This link has helped many other...it could help you too.

Clunk when car starts
I was thinking it could be 2 things. 1. Your automatic tranny gaining line pressure 2. The vents in your vehicle moving due to the vacum building up and switching them over. Anybody have any other ideas?

Broken Timing Belt Idler, what to do.....
Water pumps are easy! Thanks for the update.....now we know! Change the oil pump seals while you have it all apart. Also tighten the screws on the back of the oil pump. Might want to consider changing the belt tensioner as well.

Ocala national forest next weekend???
I am wanting to take a road trip and see the Ocala national forest soon. So I figured I would ask my fellow Roo owners if they would like to join me. I was thinking early Saturday morning. Let me know if anyone wants to join me?

why oh why
coloradosubarules replied to PeterD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXit's as simple as this... Chevys are junk, fords are junk. I drive a Subaru because I can dependonit to get me where I need to go with minimal problems. IF more people think this way, then by chevy sticking thier badge on a perfectly good Subaru...People aren't going to want to buy Subaru's because they are going to be associated with chevrolet. Here is the breakdown for people who do not know: Chevy = geo = hummer = GMC= Pontiac = Some Izusu back in the day = some jeep engines Toyota = Lexus = Scion Nissan = infinity = Datsun (not past 86) Ford = mazda = lincoln = mercury = jaguar = land rover BMW = mini Porsche = Porsche Mercedes = Mercedes Subaru = Subaru Dodge = plymouth = jeep = mopar I'm sure I forgot some..

Broken Timing Belt Idler, what to do.....
If it is part of the block then I am inclined to say go ahead, pull the engine and replace it. You could scout out a short block and stick your heads....etc on it or you could buy a complete engine and sell your old engine parts to offset the cost, ...or keep them for future repairs. I have seen some engine carnage in my day but that is bad. If I had some cash and you lived near me I would buy it off you.

Keyless entry making cars electical system go crazy
That clicking sound you hear is a relay. When the system is going haywire you should take your fingers and stick them in the area of the clicking. Once you have found the source stick your finger on it and you should feel it clicking. Replace that relay with one just like it from the parts store. If this does not work then you will need to replace your KES brain. Before you go about replacing the brain check all of it's grounds. A bad ground will make it go nuts too. Chances are that relay is grounded somewhere as well. If you can trace that ground down and check it. I am under the impression that the KES has a starter kill function. This would explain the vehicle not starting.

Mandatory maintenance on a used Subaru...?
A T-belt on a 2.2 is sooo easy. I do believe Josh (legacy777) has the write up on it. He helped me with mine and I am having no problem with it. If you do the coolant flush yourself be sure to "burp" the system very well or it could be the demise of your engine. Heat and air pockets are your engines enemy.
