  1. I guess as long as you have all the same kind in there, it should be fine.
  2. Good to know. I look forward to more discussions and enlightenment!
  3. Gloyal- I DID use what was in there in the first place, someone else mixed it. The short, broken paragraphs tend to denote condesention or a curt attitude. I didn't mean to say anything in any way that would warrant that. So I'm sorry for any miscommunication. At any rate, thank you for the input.
  4. Ah. Just re read and saw you haven't driven it long. Is the motor really loud?
  5. It could be a headgasket. How is the power? Is it weak(er than usual)?
  6. I've never spoken to anyone who has seen this jelly phenomenon actually happen. I read a few months ago somewhere that the whole thing was made up by GM. I also just helped my buddy swap a water pump on an oldsmobile. When I pulled it out, the coolant that followed was yellowish (green plus orange...) but no jelly to be found. I still flushed the system and filled with orange, cause thats what you're supposed to do. Anyone actually seen the mixed coolant jelly is very welcome to enlighten me. If it does happen, I'd like to know.
  7. Almost as jealous for that shop lift as i am for that sweet hatch! Nice find! Any work required is well worth it, so I'm glad to see you're already well underway with repairing it.
  8. @doughildreth- Nice Brat! I have a gen2 but share the same dream of towing a teardrop behind my Brat! Very cool combo. -Lou
  9. I'm driving around in my '84 Brat (GL D/R 4mt EA81 hitachi) and I notice that when I put my foot on the gas I hear a suction sound from the passenger side dash area. No ill affect towards performance, but a little annoying and certainly puzzling. Any ideas?
  10. My '84 has it. I want another for the other side instead of the dummie cap.

  14. bump Hope someone knows, I've been thinking about this for a while now.
  15. The sock filter does indeed live on the end of the main fuel supply port inside the tank. Its got an orange end. Grab whatever implements of destruction/ extraction you favor most (I used long neck needle nose pliers), take a peek inside the tank, and get that sucker outta there. You mentioned replacing fuel lines, did you replace every inch of line?. Let Sea foam briefly soak inside any unreplaced fuel line segments and force some air through them. Prime your fuel lines so your fuel pump dosent get tired. Good luck!
  16. My dad worked at a subie dealership here i oregon back when they were making these ski team wagons. He told me his dealership had one for sale and that he borrowed it for a weekend ski trip to Mt. Hood. So I believe you could buy them new with these decals. All this time he knows I'm a subaru freak and he dosen't bother to share that gem of a story till just this week.
  17. I've dealt with two different varnished/rusted fuel cells. There is only one good way to start the cleaning process- drop the tank. It's a PITA, but worth it. Peek in there after dumping it out, and decide if it is really rust or just varnish. If it's rust, take it to a radiator shop and have them cut it open and clean/re-coat the inside. This may cost you about $100 or $150 so it may be worth looking for another tank. If it's just varnish, then you can clean it out yourself proper with a mixture of kerosene and acetone, with a handful of washed gravel as aggregate. I've tried softer solvents like mineral spirits, don't waste your time and money with those- go for the hard stuff. Loop some rope through one of the tank's mounting holes, and tie it to a tree branch or rafter. Then shake it (not necessarily like a Polaroid picture.) Tying it up is way easier than holding it up and awkwardly shaking it around yourself or even with help. Hope this helps, and good luck! Any amount of work you're able to do is worth saving a BRAT!
  18. Glad to hear you got your GL-10 back! I've been following this thread hoping for a happy ending.
  19. Both my 84 hatch and my 84 brat were search and rescues. Towed the hatch from John Day back to Portland, it was only sitting about four years, but was about to go to the crusher. Pretty much the same story with my brat, but it drove nd was just outside of oregon city. workin on that one right now.
  20. Thanks! Thats kind of what I was thinking, but i don't know much about exhausts or bikes. Or bike exhausts.
  21. The '84 Hatch had 187,xxx before it got wrecked... And the '84 BRAT I recently picked up has 220,xxx (with a 15,000 mile old rebuild on the motor):-p
  22. Just check for rust on the underside. If it's not getting eaten alive, then buy it!!! No cracks in the dash... A real survivor!
