BRZ and its Sister the Scion FRS/Toyota GT86

Discussion of the Subaru BRZ and its Toyota/Scion Sister car the FRS or GT86.

Hello all, 2019 Toyota GT86 TRD Edition I know this sounds dumb, "just replace the battery", but my battery tests fine at NAPA every time as well as the alternator. It'll start up fine in the morning, drive fine, I go to the store, get back in and it either has a super hard and slow start or it is dead. I've even driven it four a few hours and then parked, same result. If the charging system is fine then possibly something is pulling excessive amperage? Jump the battery, perfect 14 volts w/perfect start. Has anyone had this issue? I find it hard to believe the factory alarm system would drain it while locked/parked. Also, they're absolutely no aftermarket p…

Swamping out the crank pulley and the boss / spacer came out and didn't get aligned correctly on the reinstall. Need help on the parts list. We're ordering a new bolt, o-ring, and boss but we're not sure what else we will need up to the sprocket. In the pictures you can see the back of the boss damaged at the keyed opening. At the sprocket it looks like the key is the piece at about 10 o'clock and it's also damaged. I think the sprocket is good, is that little piece the key #E50506? and is the shiny metal ring behind it against the sprocket a separate piece or part of the sprocket? Anyone who has any additional information please help, thank you.

  4. If anyone is interested in reading an epic build thread of a drift BRZ then hit the link. It’s currently still being build - and it’s being done by a bloke in his shed with his own skills. I don’t think he’s specifically in the auto industry as such. http://www.subyclub.com/topic/12659-joels-brz/ He’s got the build on other sites too, but I thought I’d be a good link to drop in the BRZ forum Cheers Bennie

The recent sales figures from Subaru in regards to the BRZ don't inspire confidence that a second gen will happen. The BRZ numbers stick out like a sore thumb. While all other models are reporting record historical month over year sales (2014 Feb vs 2015 Feb ) the BRZ sales decreased 45%. And this isn't the first month this has happened. There have been no rumors or spy shots or anything even regarding the 2016 BRZ. I got to think the execs are thinking there isn't a business case for a new gen BRZ. I recall that when it was first out, the dealership didn't know anything about it other than the young punks all wanted one (did I just age myself lol?). Being the greed…

Does anyone know if the 2017 BRZ with the "track apps" includes a 0-60 timer? The description in the brochure is vague. I know it has a G meter and live torque curve etc in the new lcd on the dash.

Now that the Scion brand will, thankfully, be discontinued, the FRS will become a Toyota. In my opinion this can only enhance the FRS. Apologies to any Scion fans out there but having the Scion logo on the car made it less desirable. Some folks of course don't care about such things. Thoughts?

so I thought I had posted in here before but does anyone else think it would kick rump roast to drop some in hub electric motors with regen breaking and a capacitor as well as the computer to link the electric and gas drive platforms... hm... AWD when you need it RWD when you don't plus you get all that tasty torque at the front for launches and that doesn't hurt your clutch or trans either...

Well, I have owned Aura for about a year now. 2013 BRZ Premium manual. She has just under 11,500 miles, if you consider my daily commute is only 10 miles, and a lot of the time I take the hardtop or the legacy or my motorcycle, I have actually put most of those miles on in pleasure driving. I wanted this car for several reasons. I am a big fan of front engine rear drive cars (both my Brat and hardtop were both changed to it). I have also been wanting to see a two door in the Subaru line up for a loooong time. It was a chance to get out of the econoboc Sentra that I had bought a couple years before. Besides, it is one sexy looking car. I have done no modifications…

Hey folks! I just brought home my new BRZ last Saturday the 19th...I am in LOVE. This is my second Subaru...the first being a 2002 Impreza (Sadie) that just had a new engine dropped in (thanks to a shoddy mechanic who didn't replace something he said he did. Sometimes it's not a good idea to trust friends of the family). I am putting pics up of her. I call her Breezy but sh'es more like a hurricane. I get stares and people stop me to say how beautiful she is. The EMT's at work have even asked my ER nurses who's car that is ...I couldn't be more pleased with how she handles. Purrs like a kitten, pounces like a cheetah. I had to have the dealership track one down f…

I like the red accents. from the article: Rowen Subaru BRZ carbon edition show car here is also garnished with red accents on its aero parts, red brake calipers, and a set of nice matte black aftermarket wheels. Rowen didn’t mention any performance upgrades – the very thing the BRZ needs more than any visual or interior modification. 7 pictures and full article .

I wonder how much it weighs? from the article: Made for the Australian market, the 2015 BRZ Special Edition adds AU$7,990 worth of extra equipment on the automatic model and AU$9040 on the manual gearbox edition for a price increment of AU$3,500 over the cost of the regular BRZ, with prices starting from AU$40,650. 7 pictures and full article .

If this is true the resale value of the BRZ could be pretty good. From the article: A new report coming from Australia indicates the Subaru BRZ might not receive a second generation. It seems the Subaru BRZ could be terminated after only one generation in the event that Toyota and BMW will deepen their collaboration. One of the reasons why Subaru got its own version of the GT 86 is because Toyota has a 20 percent stake in Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries, but that might not happen for the second-generation GT 86 which is said to become more radical than today's car. BMW and Toyota are working together on a high-performance sports car slotted above the…

I have noticed the price of the BRZ is well below MSRP even with dealers who tried to add the greedy "market adjustment" (MSRP + $5K) when they originally came out. Subaru is now offering deals on a car that was previously praised in the press and apparently such a great seller that there was no need to discount . That appears to have changed. Now it appears that after several uncorrected complaints (noisy fuel pump, condensation in taillights, uneven idling and direct injector failure) people are shying away from the BRZ and the FRS. Consumer Reports rates the BRZ/FRS as unreliable. Cars.com reports they had trouble selling their test BRZ. http://blogs.cars.com…

  23. The famous Toyota 2JZ engine (3 liter inline 6, iron block and aluminum head, DOHC, and built battle-ship tough as the basis for the Toyota TT) has been swapped into cars ranging from an old Mustang (for the Fast and Furious series) to an S2000... but now also onto a Toyota FT86... in Thailand. Look this Videos: ~► ~► I Believe a Turbo EJ25 could be better Idea: Less Work and probably around the same Capabilities. Kind Regards.

I am curious how the BRZ Remote Start feature works in the manual version. I know that in aftermarket remote start systems, you need to go through a "reservation" procedure for manual transmission vehicles when you shut off your car in order to be able to remote start. I think the general procedure in aftermarket is something like while car is running, put in neutral, set EBrake, remove key while leaving running, lock doors and system shuts car off automatically. What is the procedure in the BRZ remote start?

Basically, Toyota has decided to import the stripped-out JDM 86 base model. Seems pretty sweet, apart from the overdone sticker kit on the model shown. Article's below, have a look-see: http://www.3news.co.nz/Design-your-own-car-online/tabid/423/articleID/300672/Default.aspx And the actual car: http://www.the86.co.nz/86RC/
