I just ordered a set from Subaru here in town with gaskets to go with em.

Intake Manifold Bolts?
Okay, I'm thinking that I really don't want to put these bolts back in. Where do you recommend one gets new bolts? Any hardware store okay? Grade 8 a good idea, or go with the regular grade bolt?[/img]

TDC needed for Engine removal?
I do have to pull the timing covers and belts too, right?

TDC needed for Engine removal?
Pulling engine on an EA82 to replace HG. Does the flywheel need to be at TDC before I remove the engine? If it does I can't seem to get it to roll over to get to that point. HELP:-\

91 Loyale with this for oil.
Thanks Miles, it probably needs a new clutch as well. Are those hard to do? NEVER done one of those either, had a couple done you know for $800 or so. I'm guessing pretty easy once I have the engine pulled.

Not sure I'm up to digging this deep into the engine, replacing gaskets not a huge deal.. MIND YOU THIS WILL BE MY FIRST HG REPLACE.

91 Loyale with this for oil.
The first time I looked at the car I pulled the dipstick and there was the milkshake consistency on the back side of the dipstick (I think, regardless one side). Jumped it to turn it over a few times. Then it was not visible on the dipstick, even when I got there to pick her up. But oil level was high when I picked her up. But not when I first looked at her.

Do you think the lower bearings are still viable after sitting for two years in the water??

91 Loyale with this for oil.
On that note, in your opinion with car having set for 2 + years in said state do you think it would be worth the effort of replacing the head gasket? (I know depends on how long it was driven that way too, I'm guessing not terribly long, luckily the coil gave way and leaked most of the oil out, she sure smoked like a bear cat when we got her started. It was probably about a gallon low of coolant in cooling system:eek: any input here would be good) If you (or anybody else) do think it would be worth it. How long did it take you the first time you did a head gasket? Is there a huge benefit to cherry picking the engine out? Versus leaving it in the car?

Newbie to Soobie needs info.
They refer to both the engine and body style. 82s the Brats have the body style from 1982-1987 another term being GEN2.(yours appears to fall in this category) EA81, 1st GEN 78'-80 or 81' not sure on last year. Engines, 82s typically won't be found in the 1st GEN body. 81s, can find those up to last year brought to USA as well as the 82 engine.

[/img] Minus the leaves of course [/img] This is from a EA82 Head gasket? Worth replacing the gasket? And this is the car:headbang: [/img] 172xxx on the odometer for $500.

Sputtering on 85 Brat
How did this work out for you?
-
Is it worth it?
http://www.angelfire.com/crazy/bushy5552/weber1.html Is it possible to put a Weber on without adding an EA82 intake? Or is this where the addapter plate comes to play? This guy makes it seem like it is best to add the EA82, if this is the best route, performance increase with said addition? Thoughts??

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
One other thing that I did notice, prior to putting graphite in the ingition (two squirts too much cause it procceded to run out of the steering column on to the mat oops:slobber:) when I would start it sometimes the key would be in the position that the radio and fan would not come on, then I figured out that the key needed to come back just a bit and I would have power to said items again. This symptom seems to have ceased now with the propper lube:clap:

Clunking noise at low speed turning
I have also noticed that I have the (horse trot) sound as I am driving straight as well as making a left turn. Then once eveything is warmed up the sound seems to subside.:-\

Clunking noise at low speed turning
What year is your Brat, mine is a 86', I'm hearing that same sound too. All the boots seem to be good. So in light of that do they need to have grease added to the CV joints?

Oil pan gasket w/o pulling engine?
+1 On leaving the engine in place, it is a PITA to get the back bolts in and out. At least on the EA81 anyway, not sure if there is a huge difference to the EA82.

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
WOW, just got to love the info from the members here. Thanks A whole lot all of this is very good info, GREATLY APPRECIATED!! I'm thinking for the time being I'll just keep using it like it is, if I turn it slow enough then I don't go to far. And I keep reminding myself of the parts load that I committed myself to buying, I have no idea how many things like this I will be blessed with. God is Good, so I'm feeling lots of good treasures to be hauled back to:D my garage.:-)

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
Thanks guys for catching me up on the terminology here, seems kinda confusing with the engine and bodies overlapping terms.

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
Okay, so I've searched for the designated year or years that fall into the EA81 or the EA82 category for body style. So any input into this would be appreciated. I've looked at various threads here, maybe I've not looked at the right one IDK.

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
Well, apparently I am the one that is uneducated here. I didn't realize that the EA81 to EA82 and probably the EA71 are tags for both the engine and body style:banghead: I guess that is what I get for coming in only half educated. This Brat was manufactured in 12/85 labeled a 1986 I will look for a chart that designates the tags accordinly. My bad, I do appologize. Of course it is a Gen2, othewise IDK

Actually it is an EA81, unless a PO. changed the engine.

Ignition Switch getting Hard to turn.
So if the tumbler does die then I should go ahead and replace just the tumbler our or do the switch and tumbler come as one?
