  1. Might also want to check to see if you have a loose castle nut. I've had those make all sorts of strange intermittent griding noises.
  2. Pretty much my strategy all day sunday! It was a great course, and I had an absolute blast at the school. Jamie is the greatest, I think I'm definitely going back and requesting her. Besides, how could it possibly be bad when you've got mud on your roof within the first 5 minutes of rally school
  3. So I see the bar has been raised! See ya there next time!
  4. My 88 GL-10 sedan usually ran at 3 bars in the winter and 4 bars in the summer. It's a turbo manual no AC. It did go to 5 bars once when it blew the coolant hose under the turbo, otherwise it has never gone above 4 bars. I think the owner's manual says 4-7 is "normal" but I would be frightened if it got above 4, just because I know the car.
  5. I would reccomend checking the coil bracket. The bracket has a transistor on the bottom of it (called "ignition impulse amplifier") that can go bad. Also, the bracket itself serves as a ground, so make sure it's tight and clean. Otherwise, we're probably talking ECU issues. Hope this helps!
  6. Bummer! I was up til 10 last night making a skid plate for the RX...I guess I'll have to test it at a later date
  7. She's a 93, and yes the engine bay is spotless and the interior is mint. Even the visors are nice and springy . I don't have the maintenace records, but was told (and trust) that it had it's oil changed religously and the 30k service done on time. And it only took me one day of my 80 mile commute to decide that an automatic isn't such a bad thing afterall. Oh! It has cupholders!!! As a long time GL driver for cupholders! mtsmiths- I can't wait for thoes wheels!!!
  8. Sorry Rob! I forgot to warn you about that. It worked when I put the first engine in...but not the second....
  9. I suppose I should also post some pics of the resolution....first attempt was one that anyone who has more subarus than brains would take....put the beater wagon in LO and... ...we broke the tow strap, but it did pull the truck et al a good 8" up the hill...so we finally got it fixed with several jacks and three old donuts (I knew I was saving thoes for something) and driving the dolly underneath the subie Of course by this time it was dark and pouring down rain....
  10. Sounds like I missed a great event! Congrats everyone and I hope to see you all next time!
  11. Thanks Ed. I'm really looking forward to not getting my money's worth out of AAA
  12. Well, I wasn't going to post this but finally decided that it's more hillarious than it is embarrasing...so I sold an old turbo wagon to Turbone and had a little mishap with momentum on delivery day: Please note that there are 0 engines under the hood and 2 engines in the cargo bay....on the downhill side...past the dolly axel...
  13. I finally joined your ranks and just have to show off my new ride And my personal favorite:
  14. I am planning on going, but I don't know what I'll be driving. Does anybody know how muddy it is? Last I saw was at WW...and it's only been raining since then...
  15. How easy/hard it is depends. Is your car auto or manual? 4WD or 2WD? Is the tranny auto or manual? The final drive should 3.70 on both transmissions, but I could be wrong
  16. Ironic how I just sold you the twagon and got rid of that exta SPFI block....
  17. Well, what I hoped was a blown turbo in my GL-10 sedan is obviously something else. The exciting symptoms include: substantial positive pressure in the crankcase...enough to blow the dipstick out and send oil splashing up on the hood....and back down excessive consumption/combustion of oil...while I limped her home the cars behind me stopped and waited for the smoke to clear...it would be cool for a halloween party if you didn't mind the smell it's making a strange knocking sound....go figure My preliminary diagnosis is major bad juju in the bottom end. What typically causes this type of failure? The engine is 100% stock, 92 gas, clean (enough)/full oil. Oil pressure unknown due to stupid digidash and lazy subaru owner who never installed the oil pressure gauge she bought a couple of years ago (though I did open it and lose half of the fittings...) Driving the RX-RA around leaves me completely uninspired to fix the EA82T. I don't really need the extra car and I don't really have time to fix it.
  18. That was great!!! I will have to show it to my brother....he's a Nissan guy
  19. I had a blast, as usual. I was only there sunday...I was really hoping they were going to run Crain Creek in the snow on saturday but that didn't happen. Looks like I missed out on Tahola!
  20. I did go to Portland. Rallitek was having a dyno day, and I figured it was a good excuse for a little road trip. A photoshoot/drive sounds awesome...how about whenever it quits raining.... It seemed low to me too. There's a thread over on nasioc about it, and basically it said from a wrx = 240 HP, wrx-RA = 260 HP, wrx-sti RA = 280 HP. I haven't found any type of "official" website that lists the power outputs, but this certainly seems to agree with my dyno results. Especially when you consider that these "HP" ratings are probably actually in PS, so that would put the wrx-RA at 256 CHP. With 218 WHP, the loss would be almost exactly 15% which is spot on. yes it is...and having that much power as your BASELINE is even more fun A girl can only dream...though there's really no point in any engine mods until I upgrade the suspension...
  21. I think this pretty much speaks for itself: For those who don't know, the car is an '87 turbo coupe with and EJ20G from a '93 WRX type RA, and was built by Suberdave. The engine and ECU are stock (for now....) I believe the only thing left to say is ...and thanks again Suberdave for building one hell of a car!
