I need a new wheel cylider for insp. Put one in tonight and went to bleed it and when I opened the bleeder it came out literally, I guess they put it on too tight and stripped it. Now the wheel cylider has frozen completely open, the two back bolts holding it on won't come out as it appears it has twisted from the force. Any ideas on how to get the darn thing off?

Welding frame rails on a Brat
benebob replied to benebob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yeah I was planning on going right through the undercoating but wanted to ask since I wanna know what guage was used originally. It'll be the first welding I've done since I passed my test in NC oh 10 or so years ago so it should be fun. -
Well Pep Boys finally found the holes in the front frame rails of the Brat (took 'em 3 years) so I failed my inspection there. Fabricated a real ugly cap for the drivers side today but it looks like it should work. Question is does anybody know what gauge steel was used for the underside of a Brat? I'm guessing like 22 or 20. My cap is 22 as I don't have a steel bender and didn't know if I'd be able to get a decent crease with thicker steel. Just wanna come up with a setting to work with. Oh yeah. Also, the underside coating. Should it be removed or will a wire feed welder using flux go through it w/o a problem or a fire.

I'd like to go at least 2ish or so as Saturday I have a wedding to go to at 2 or so. It is a Catholic wedding so I'm about as excited as a 95 year old without my viagra. Hoping to be back by 7 if everyone is still hanging around. Everyone is gonna stick around and watch me beat the living crap out of my SVX at the autox Sunday right? Last year I forced her into a 4th place in the PAX (handicapped standings).
-
What? You aren't gonna take the SVX??? I'm really gonna have to clean mine rather than just rely on your dirty girl to make mine shine:grin: . Seriously though bring it. It is a great time looking through all the junk vendors at the very least and you get 2 admissions for the weekend for $20. It'll cost ya $7 a person w/o a car.

Here's my 2 cents. DON'T get the warranty now. You'll get letters weekly/monthly almost every day from subaru telling you about the warranty program and that you can join for that price up until 35,999. Just think you'll have nearly 3 years to think about it and see what goes wrong with the car over that time. Oh yeah, when you are ready to do it, go back to the dealer and give your salesman the $$$. They get a percentage if you buy it from them but they don't get crap if you get it from Subaru. Only issue is that you can't finance it by waiting. My guess is you can do a payment plan or something though. Congrats on the new car. As for not being able to pick it up after 10am on a Saturday it makes sense. Sounds like you have a good anal dealer who wants to be sure the car is prepped, clean and ready for ya rather than in and out, time to sell the next widget. Keep in mind to properly have a car detailed and prepped according to Subaru's specs takes something like 4 hours.

That's a tough one on price... How much are they charging for tax and fees?? We paid about that for our 03 Legacy GT last July. It had a sticker of about $27k. Personally though if you're getting the 1.9% financing you can't go wrong at that price. I'd tell them that the deal breaker is a rear hatch wing. The back window gets filthy without it.

Personally it sounds like a 92 Loyale would do the trick for ya. Find a nice lower mile, rust free 4wd and go to town. Only thing it is missing would be low range but even that can be had if you don't mind swapping trannys with a EA-82 GL wagon.

Non-working cd changer from new, Bad 3rd gear (stick) from new, Steering wheel not aligned properly from new, Pass side mirror had the black plastic coating come off, Doesn't like reverse 50% of the time. Orange peel Poor fit and finish Paint doesn't match on plastic That's about all I can come up with for the first 4.5k.

Diesel is too dirty and in reality you are in fact creating more of a gas issue and enviromental issues with one than with a gas engine. It takes 4 barrels of oil to make 4 barrels of gas while it takes 4 barrels of oil to make 3 barrels of diesel. The diesel would need to be 25% more eff. than a gas engine to actually save oil dependency. Yes a current diesel is about 25% more efficient in that regard, however, it emits far to much in the way of pollutants. Unless a new system is developed (which is doubtful since diesel cars make up about .5% of car sales in the US) there will not be a single diesel here in 2006 I think when the more stringent emissions regs go into effect for diesel engines. Subaru would waste far too much money for an increase in maybe 2000 cars a year if they offered a diesel. Besides, that money would be better spent coming up with a new head gasket for when our legacy needs it done.

Went to Lowe's tonight and when leaving the acc. pedal dropped to the floor. Cable is toast. I guess 185k will do that. Anyway I'm kind of in need of a cable faster than the 7-10 days Pep Boys says it'll take and no one else can get it sooner. Think a yard one would work? Also how hard and what tools would be needed to get one off and home. I can squeeze in some time in the AM to go to a yard. Oh yeah, on a side note. Cranking the idle up to 4000rpm will get ya to about 35-40mph on a straight away in a BRAT. The brakes aren't real happy but she got me home without a problem.
