Very picky AND drivning a Ford Exploder? . Tires should be a concern as it shows the overall mantainance of the previous owner. If one was just replaced it can do some major damage to the clutch packs. Why do you desire an Outback so badly? My guess is a normal Legacy wagon will do fine and is about 2k cheaper to start with. It handles better, is slightly faster and brakes better out of the box.

Not Blue, not brown, one of those puke colored 70s tanish greenish browns. I didn't even notice a crack on the dash!

Anybody need anything? Grill and front lights look good, hood looks fine, all the glass was broken except the windshield interior was intact and in nice shape. Rust through starting on the front fenders but otherwise looks solid as a rock. Doors were definately workable to bring back. Some rust on em.

Great Pics guys! I think I'm finally getting my hearing back after the long, loud drive home. Put a bolt in there today that is holding just fine although the exhaust is still leaking at the head. Guess I'll be calling and ordering a new exhaust stud this morning. Moosens, don't forget about that new grill I need!

Yeah you'd be looking at a tranny rebuild or a snag one from a yard deal. I'd focus on the later as it would be cheaper.

Sounds like the syncros are starting to go. My brat will do it in 3rd if I don't immediately let out the clutch. Did you ever take a look at that XT?

What was the last carbed car sold in us?
benebob replied to AKIRA's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A carb:D . Isuzu's were sold through 95 with carbs. It was just on the base 4 cylinder models. I remember reading about the end of the carb in the US when they switched to a SPFI on it. -
Actually AWD is a huge deal. It enables the car to break faster, drive safer and handle better in nearly all conditions. I would never talk anyone out of a Subaru. In fact as JD Powers shows they age better then most other cars. Just expect to deal with a few flaws from the get go on a Legacy. Of course it is all under warranty. Other option is a slightly used 2002 or 2003 that has this stuff done. Granted you may get one that is perfect but just want you to be prepared. Any thoughts on a Forester Turbo?

I think subarus age better than most cars including honda and toys. They do seem to have some initial issues (esp the ones made in Indiana). I just don't think the initial quality of the Legacy is as good as you would expect for a 20-30k car or to me at least not up to old subaru standards. The Forester Turbo I had as a loaner for the 3 weeks ours was in the shop seemed built much better. Granted I hated it but that's me.

As a well not to proud owner of a 03 Legacy GT Wagon with a stick here's my 2 cents. 1. This is the worst build quality car of any Subaru I've ever owed. Here's my list of others (85 GL Hatchback, 92 Legacy Turbo, 94 Impreza, 95 SVX, 86 Brat, 88 Justy and 88 XT6). The body panels don't match real well, orange peel (guess GM gave subaru that when buying in) it had maybe 10 sample defects in it worst was a not functioning CD player, the interior has some definately CHEAP portions (the key fob clangs on the plastic cover on the steering column just as it did on the Legacy in 90, the handbrake is pathetically cheap considering everything else is covered in leather). 2. Our manual has already had it's 3rd and 4th gears sycro replaced. It now doesn't want to go into reverse that easily. Must call!!!!!!!! 3. As much as I hate the quasi 4wd vehicles I'd say check out a Forester or Forester Turbo. Both drive decent although they handle quite poorly in my book but look what I compare it to. As you can see this is my first "American" Subie so I simply liken the lack of quality in the build to that. I hate to do it but when the body panels of my Brat adhere to stricter tolerances than an 03 Legacy with 2k miles I just don't know.

I'll second that. His free XT6 is still churning it up and about to go for a nice 1400 mile weekend to the SVX/XT Smokies meet. Tony Rocks:headbang: !!!! Just wish he'd make it up to some of the PB meets or Carlisle next year. I definately owe him a drink or two.

I'm fairly certain the original Justy had a Subaru designed engine. 1.2L vs 1.0 or a 1.3 for the Geo/Suzuki. Now of course they are one and the same but I think the ones that sold in the US were Subie designed. I have been know to be wrong though but please don't tell my wife that:burnout:

My SVX idea.
benebob replied to ringe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Ditto with Shawn. Esp a 97 as they are the rarest of the bunch. As for the exhaust why would you want to ruin a work of art. Its probably one of the best factory exhaust systems I ever saw. It would be a very tough feat to actually improve upon it. My advice is if you haven't driven an SVX go take a couple for some drives. It is a very complete vehicle that works flawlessly as it is. Yeah the tranny can be problematic but if cared for it is an amazing GT. Very similar to the XJS or a Jensen Interceptor. Two cars aside from some XJS's were all autos as well. -
Check out this forum. Its for XT6s but all wedgies are welcome. http://xt.zybx.com/ Taking out the dash plate is a real pain. There is a screw on the d-side far left vent. The trip computer/ clock (thing right above the radio) has a cover on it that pops off. There is a screw in there that you'll need to take out as well. The thing will then pry out with some gentle movements with a screw driver on the top and bottom (it is held on by plastic holds as well) You'll next need to take the radio out. A bent screwdriver (you can get one at Sears for like $1) is about all that'll work to take the two screws holding it in. Once the radio is out there are some screws holding the trim cover on that you'll need to remove and you should be home free. Every cover I have ever seen had something wrong with it so you may have a tough time finding one. I know off two XT turbo hoods at a yard in PA (EZ Pull a Part). Not positive on the condition but they were there this past Saturday.

Anybody know where New Ringold Pull a Part is?

Nope. No wallet and I really looked hard for it too! -

Went to both yards today and walked away with well a grey seat adjustment lever for my Brat. Nothing else of interest to me. AZ had no XTs at all and EZ had well maybe 15 XTs, however, they were all gen 1s (87 or older and no XT6s or decent XT6 like radios). How depressing. No wallet. There were a couple XT turbos and an RX with no engine, 2 Sedan turbos there. -

That's it! Thanks man! Any idea if they got any XT6s there? -
check out http://www.subaru-svx.net. Also Small car makes a kit. Why does he want to do it? It won't make it much faster and will be pretty much of a dog past 90. Aside from heat issues the SVX is geared quite nicely. Besides, if he does it he just killed any collector value it might have 10 years from now.
