So today I noticed that my gas gauge and temp gauge take FOREVER to work properly. The gas gauge reads empty and the temp gauge reads cool. Help? Btw: I've decided to go with outback struts and springs as a loft rather than strut spacers. What's years are compatible with a 1990 Legacy?

So today I picked up this for 1500$ Its a 90' Legacy Wagon with 161k. Full time 4wd. Interior is in "like new" condition. Exterior is in fairly good condition, a few scratches and dings. The only sad thing is...its an automatic My goals for this project are as follows: Custom Bumper Custom Roof Rack 2in Strut Lift Bigger Tires (if anyone could help with sizes that would be awesome!) Make it last till I'm 18 And last but not least. Get it as muddy as possible

79 BRAT Clutch Issue
ThatSubaruKid replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
So I put a new clutch cable in. Lost motivation to work on the BRAT, but today regained some of my motivation and tried to get it running and ish. Last night i moved it into the garage by driving it in. I then unplugged the negative side of the battery. I went to start it today and nothing. nothing at all. I turned the key half way and it made a buzzing sound like usual and then i went to crank it over and nothing. I think it has something to do with the clutch not enableing, therefore not allowing the vehicle to start.....? Anyone know whats going on? -
So I just read something that sounds sketchy...but somewhat safe at the same time. BOAT ROLLERS. Ya know the things that help you roll your boat forward on the trailer. If you cut them into 2.5in Pucks and put them in between the strut and car they give it a lift. The only downfall is that they squeeck on cold mornings going over bumps....Safe or not Safe? I WILL FIND OUT!!! Can't wait to get a legacy. Btw...if anyone in the PDX/Vancouver area notice's their Boat rollers on the trailer are missing....wasn't me

79 BRAT Clutch Issue
ThatSubaruKid replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
IT DOES EXACTLY THAT! -
So as soon as I sell my BRAT. I plan on buying a Legacy. I want to lift the Legacy, and heard there are many ways to go about it. 1) Buy a lift kit and install. Lengthen the steering column, brake lines, etc. 2) Put Outback springs and shocks on the Legacy. Nothing else required. 3) Put Forrester Springs and Struts on the Legacy. Nothing else required. Am i correct on these three options. Which is the easiest? I know theres a lot of threads already out there on this topic, but they all yield different instructions and are confusing. Help?

79 BRAT Clutch Issue
ThatSubaruKid replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ive put probably 20 miles on this new clutch. I didnt replace it, i bought it that way. I just checked and the cable seems to be working correctly..How do i adjust it? If thats the case. -
So, I'm rethinking my decision to sell my brat and I might just keep it. I will only keep it if I dont have to replace the clutch right now. I dont mind doing it down the road, but i dont have the money right now. Now, when i drive my brat, it will not shift out of neutral if the vehicle is on. If i turn the engine off, put it in first gear, and then restart the engine, i can drive through to second or third gear. I dont think the clutch is worn out because it has a new clutch in it....help??? :/

Indeed it is. Day 3: 1-10-12. Today i picked up a battery, took the carb back out to check for any leaks, it turned out ok, but still wouldnt start. I am still hesitant about my carbuerator rebuilding skills and this carbuerators state in general. I have come to the conclusion that I either A) Need a Brand new Carb or Need a used/rebuilt one. I found an 84 gl at pick and pull but I don't know if the carb is still in it. If it is, will it work for my brat?

Day 2: 1-9-2013 So today I rebuilt the Carb, went to go put it back under the hood...and whatta ya know! The tape I used to mark the hoses fell off. I also cannot get the throttle (I think its the throttle) linkage to reconnect. After taking my best guess with the hoses, connecting some jumper cables to the battery, and having my sister pull on the link, the BRAT started, but then died when my sister let go of the link. I have 3 questions. Is it the throttle linkage attached to the carb? If so how do i reconnect it? Does anyone have a hose diagram or something to help me reconnect all the hoses?
