Certainly Haight,
My background is in Architecture & Design ... So not a traditional industrial designer per say, but I still know how to draw ...
You can see more of my work in the photo bucket links below ...

Finally got round to finishing this drawing I had started ages ago :
Something for the Brumby boys to mull over ...

You should get a set of center caps to go with those Enkei's :
Note : I think the original caps are either f or m ...
More details here : http://www.hirano-tire.co.jp/enkei/enkei5.htm

Wonder which GL you have there 19804wdPOS ... ?
This might help to tell us which model you have ie: Wagon etc :
http://ridehomehappy.com/index.php/blog/post/vintage-subaru-brochure-1980-model-lineup
2675-skishop69 - as far as I can tell, the internals of a 1980's 4wd 'part time' gear box are similar ( both in layout & gearing ) to the later 1983 'Dual - Low range' box I showed earlier, just the rear out put is different & its missing a few gears ( low range ) ...
( sorry I haven't been able to find an internal image of the correct gear box - will post when I've found it )
Add : I know it don't have no center diff also - never said it did either ...
Add : One way of confirming how much power is getting to the rear end, is to put the car on a dyno with a before & after test measuring just how much HP is getting back there & see if it's actually 100% ...
By the sounds of it, 19804wdPOS wants to do some 'burnouts' & waste a few tyres ...
So I'd say let him find out the hard way when something goes bang ...

Another thread worth reading : http://www.awdwiki.com/en/torque+split+ratio/

Might be a good idea to get hold of a manual, will help to follow up on the CV & other details on your car.
Here is another thread to read up on : http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21886&highlight=rear+wheel+drive
So here is my understanding of the situation : Remove front drive shafts, engage 4WD, and Bob's your uncle - you've got rear drive only. ( only recommended for light duty / emergencies though )
If you're after something more permanent, you would have to look into upgrading gearboxes ...
Add : Found this diagram that sort of explains what I'm talking about :
Found here : http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f89/front-rear-diff-questions-445610/
From this you can see that it's unlikely 100% is going to be transferred via rear through that kinda center diff ...
( Item 1 & 6 are not directly connected ) - Granted your transmission is different, so I have no direct knowledge of it.
Hope I haven't confused you all too much - even if you have a similar gear box or not ...Cheers, Bantum ...

-
Hmm - I'm not sure about that, maybe only if you have a locked transfer diff ...
More details found here : http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/139096-4wd-loyale-rear-diff/
+ Something to show what were talking about :
Note : this is from a later model, but the layout & gears are similar ... ( the transfer diff is not shown )
There's no way to get full power using this type of gearbox to the rear with out serious mods ...
And how to get dual range 4WD here : http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15316
Cheers, Bantum ...
-
As a temporary fix it would work - But you not sure you'd get all of available power to rear ...
Add : Yet to confirm actual figure ... ( Do note that the transfer gears in an EA GL slush box are split 60% front, rest to rear )
If you want to make it more permanent - you would need to re-build the box without the transfer gears / front Diff ...

Like the concept, Great video ...

-
Yep - I have them caps on my '76 Wagon ...
You'll need to get the ends of each drive shaft taped out to suit a M6 bolt from memory ...

Narva do a complete range of plugs that you can directly swap over ( pins are similar size ) – You can either cut the old ones off & replace with new or more tedious - swap the pins over, which can be difficult to get the old ones out, as you may have to cut the old plug up … L
