  1. Thanks Kanurys theres a load of good info in your thread.
  2. I don't doubt you but im just curious as to why strictly Subaru seals?
  3. Can I get those in a kit? Or do I have to buy them individually or what?
  4. Well after procrastinating for a week or so I finally tore the motor down to the point where its just the block with crank and pistons. First thing I did after taking all the accessories and intake off was remove valve covers and 3 outta 4 (sound familiar?) of the intake lifters were just chilling in there not doing a damn thing so they deflated and that was my problem.. million dollar question though is why??? Cylinders are still cross hatched and everything else seemed in good shape. Not sure why I put this off for so long it was incredibly simple.
  5. Also on a somewhat side note can anyone tell me whether or not an ea81 alternator bracket would mount on an ea82 my compressor is shot and I don't feel like replacing it seeing how I seldomly use ac anywho. Just curious I'll have to address that sooner or later as well.
  6. haha that's awesome but knowing me and my luck I wouldn't be as fortunate as you to just be able to throw timing belts on like that. After work today im gonna drill the remaining ones out.
  7. As northwet said my readings on 3/4 cylinders was 35 or less and only 1/4 was about 170. Anyways ice got it down to just the block and heads and timing belt covers im fighting with the covers because every single bolt holding them on is rusty beyond belief.
  8. How common is it for these engines to lose compression for reasons other than a blown head gasket? If I don't HAVE to I'd rather not pull the whole thing apart just curious.
  9. ..and its not an ea82t and I know it's underpowered my friend has an 85 brat and my secondary car is an 85 Toyota tercel wagon 4x4 with a massive 65hp so im well aware
  10. Yeah its pulled and on my hoist not exactly positive how to mount it on my stand its a conventional stand and the ea82 is far from a conventional engine haha would I just put the studs through the bottom arms on the mount with some grade eight bolts through the top?
  11. So im getting ready to start the tear down on my 94 ea82 any tips tricks or advice on doing this other than of course documenting and label things.
  12. ok then. Do you know of any companies that produce a larger cam for an ea82 and ill look into the throttle body idea if you happen by it id appreciate if you kept me in mind and passed on any info
  13. Pretty much 3 out of 4 cylinders were dead for whatever reason the 3 had 35 or less when checking for compression and one had around 170. Once I'd pressurize the bad cylinder I'd hear a distinct air sound coming from the oil tube and nowhere else. So I figured it was rings or at least something internal that needed fixed. That's the purpose of the rebuild in the first place.
  14. I'll more than likely just do a stock build based off of what everyones saying and what I've researched.
  15. To my knowledge there was no oil consumption and I would imagine if it were a hg issue when I pressurized any of the bad cylinders as I did there would've been bubbles from the antifreeze which there was not but im not ruling anything out it's anyone's guess right now lol
  16. That's the thing though im not looking to build alot of hp just a little more than what it had is all.
  17. Any idea on your ft-lb trq and horse #s?
  18. So I have recently acquired a 94 loyale and upon inspection and diagnosing the engine needs gone through in short. The engine is pulled and ready to be worked with. Now originally I was just gonna do a regular spec rebuild nothing special new gaskets rings pistons valves etc etc well I got to wondering why not build it up a little? Its not a race car and I know im not gonna get anywhere near 200hp but I figured it could at least push 130-140hp. So has anyone done a build on an ea82? Or know of where I can get larger cams and pistons or any "performance" parts for a fuel injected ea82 and just more bang for my buck?
  19. Upon further testing and inspection the belts are intact and all teeth are present. Letting the cylinders soak in oil over night in hopes that the rings would reseat failed. Did a compression test again with same results 170 one #3 and less than 35 on the other 3 We would pressurize a bad cylinder and there was a distinct sound of air coming out of the oil tube soooo in other words bad rings or scored cylinder walls. We pulled the engine in just under two hours and now it awaits a full rebuild.
  20. I don't care if it's OHV or not. I'll be honest this is my first Subaru and I have read and been told the ea82s are junk so im just trying to find what the best thing would be for me to do as in swap or rebuild.
  21. I really appreciate all the info as it sits now im working on diagnosing if my ea82 will need rebuilt or just timing belts and I have talked to alot of Subaru owners and they've all said it isn't worth rebuilding one of those engines so just checking my options.
  22. It definitely hasn't been serviced lately. I took it off a friend of mines hands he had purchased it from the original owner when he purchased it it had sat for a few years with a couple tries started it drove it onto a trailer and drove it off at which time it ran fine. Now fast forward 3 months it has sat unstarted and now here I am. I have found that the ea82 engines are extremely finicky when it comes to timing but would bad timing for whatever reason really affect compression in 3 of the four cylinders?
  23. Closed thanks for all the ideas and help
  24. well not that anyone is following this obviously lol but did a compression test cylinder 3 is reading 120 all the others read 35 or less. First im going to let all cylinders soke with pb blaster and oil over night in hopes that the cylinders have washed out and the slim possibility that this will re seat them before undergoing a rebuild or ea81 swap.
  25. I have recently acquired a 94 loyale wagon. It has issues starting and running. It had stale gas in it i drained it out as best i could and put about 2 gallons back in it. it has new plugs good spark and 50lbs of fuel pressure but will not start easily at least. The only way i have been able to get it started is if i put a little gas into the throttle body unplug the injector solenoid turn it over for a minute then it will start to fire poorly at wich time i plug the solenoid back in and it will stay running poorly for a short period of time untill it dies. if i leave the injector solenoid plugged in itll turn and turn and it will act like it starts to fire then itll just continue turning over with no fire at all it seems like its flooding itself out but i honestly have no clue any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also it seems to help when you tap on the egr valve when try to start it.
