I've got one. Mine is 4 speed though.

Local car sales in Invercargill had it traded in and the mechanic saw it come in and rung me.

Just picked this up yesterday for $500NZD / $385USD. And so the mods begin!

Very cool ride. Enjoyed reading your thread man. I almost bought one of these last week, but settled on a sedan that was ten times cheaper and ten times better.

Sweet as fellas! Thanks very much for your help. Not having much luck doing it from down beside window, Ivan. Can get the latch move but still can't open door! Will take trim off this afternoon and get my hand in there and try a bit harder. Thank you both for your help, everyone here is such a great resource!

Clutch should be adjusted so you have about 2mm of freeboard.

I bought an '87 Leone/Loyale sedan today and I've fixed all issues except one. The right rear door won't open. I fixed the left front door which wasn't working also because the rod that runs from the handle had dropped off, but this is a different issue. The rod actuates the latch, but I can't open the damn door! The latch moves and 'feels' like it moves but the door is stuck fast. I've tried kicking it out from the inside but it just won't budge. I can't take the door off at the other end because although I can get to the hinges I can't get to the sliding bar thing with the pin in it with the door closed to take it off that end. WHAT DO I DO?!

Loud clacking noise from head on EA71
nobangmycar replied to nobangmycar's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Sounds like it is coming from cylinder 3 too by the way... -
I have fitted an EA71 that was rebuilt a few years ago to my '78 DL and it has a noise in one head that is becoming embarrassing. I've set the valve clearances 5 times now, and am confident I have them right at .010" on intake and 0.13" on exhaust or there about. When I first start the engine it is silent. After it has run for 30 seconds or so it develops a noise like a lifter that has way too much clearance, you know that real clacky type noise... Once it reaches operating temp it is so loud it's embarrassing! It is louder under load and decel, and is worse when hot. It is quietest when cruising at 100kph in top gear with light throttle. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?! I can't work out why it is still noisy! Any help would be appreciated!

Anyone put new ea71 in old gen dl?
nobangmycar replied to nobangmycar's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Don't worry! Got it working, and managed to take it around the block tonight. It's running great, but has an odd knock that I can't place. Might be clutch/flywheel, currently can't be exact as the noise from tappets that I haven't adjusted is travelling everywhere! -
My new 1977 sport coupe
nobangmycar replied to Pooparu's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Very cool ride Poop! I'd love to find a coupe, sedans just aren't the same. Will be following the build with interest from here. -
coolant type and my '86 brat
nobangmycar replied to belacane's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Zerex G-05 (0934.50) will be just fine. That's what I run in my EA71 and it's awesome. It's also flouresecent and easy to spot leaks! -
Meanwhile in NZ...

Cool idea. Crap execution. -
Really? No new CV Joints available. That's crazy!! I wonder exactly why that is...

I don't quite understand about your tax. We have GST here which is Goods and Service Tax and we pay 15% on EVERYTHING WE PURCHASE, so yes we pay tax. But it obviously operates a bit different over there. Thanks for explaining the octane thing too, makes perfect sense. We are pretty much equal in that respect I think.
-
Do you guys replace whole axles?! Why not just replace the joints that fail? That's what we do here and it works great. I can do a CV joint replacement in about 35 minutes. I don't understand why you would replace the whole axle... let alone a cheap aftermarket whole axle....

That's crazy! Don't need higher unless you pull the timing forward I can understand, but you will be running them retarded to hell so your fuel doesn't ping and knock! We don't have blended fuel here, and 91 is our crap fuel then 95 premium and 98 ultimate. Most stations run 91/95 and BP stations run 98 also. It sounds mad to me that you guys have 87 octane. I struggle with 91 here, but at the end of the day it's what you know to be normal really. I run all my cars on 95, and always have done. My old work car ('06 Corolla 1.8 1ZZ-FE) was terrible on 91, the ECU used to actually pull the timing back every time you put your foot down because it would ping like crazy...

No safety inspections in Alaska... Some poor other bugger has to pay to park his own car on the street overnight, and some of you use fuel that's only 87 Octane! Man we have it good here. Although i always do, it is not compulsory to have insurance here either! How interesting! Thanks for your input guys. When i get home tonight Will do some currency and litre to US gallon calcs.
