  1. Talk to mudrat79. He'll hook you up with some good lift kits. He'll ship you the parts, but he's in Oregon so you might want to find someone local to install the kit. I'm just saving up some money so I can get a lift on mine, too.
  2. What about for people who are in the process of getting an amateur license or already have one? will 10-meter radios or mobile VHF rigs work just as well as CBs?
  3. About ten years ago, I asked how much it would take to convert a 93 VW Passat from an auto to a stick. The service rep at the dealer said that a job like that would cost about 20 large. It ain't worth it, man. All I have to say is that you should've checked the facts before you committed. However, you should be able to return the car and welch on the deal within a certain amount of time. 30 days, I believe. Check it out.
  4. Looks like a great idea! I've been dying to find some good trails around here.
  5. Dude, they are damn lucky to be alive. Anyone can fall asleep at the wheel. Two kids at my school died a couple of years ago in similar circumstances. You're right, the car did serve its purpose by protecting the passengers inside. Cars can be replaced, but lives cannot. Good thing they were wearing their seat belts, too.
  6. Welcome to the Subaru world, amigo. Enjoy yourself, and feel free to ask any questions.
  7. Rubbing alcohol, Goo-Gone, turpentine (if it's not on a paint surface), or a high-pressure water jet.
  8. My airbags won't go off for anything. I rear-ended someone at about 5 miles an hour. Did a little damage, but no airbag. It takes a lot of force to get the airbag to deploy and there's no way that off-roading will generate enough force to trigger the sensors.
  9. Jumper cables, road flares, 12-volt air compressor, a homemade airbag setup for lifting my car out of stuck places, spare tire, standard Subaru tool kit (screwdriver, tire iron), stock scissor jack, square of plywood for placing under jack on soft ground, gas can, couple of extra quarts of oil, and a digital camera to record all my adventures.
  10. Need a username and password to access it.
  11. Is it automatic transmission? If so, open up the main fuse and relay box under the hood and you'll find an open fuse socket labled "FWD". Put a 20-amp fuse in there, and you're in 2WD mode. A light on the dash should show up indicating that the car is operating in that mode. To put it back in AWD, just take the fuse out. That's all there is to it.
  12. This is a classic noob problem. The little red "P" switch at the top of the steering column controls the running lights when the ignition is off because most everything electrical is primarily routed through the ignition circuit. If you can't start the car, yet it needs to be visible by the road, pop that little thing on. Good thing you came here before going to the dealer. They'll probably charge you some beaucoup bux just to tell you the little switch is on.
  13. Welcome! I've been a Soob driver for over a year now, and I'm loving every minute of it.
  14. No problem. If you have anymore questions about your 01, ask me. However, I have a few tips for you. 1. The clutches tend to wear out on the 01s after about 70k. If it's still the factory clutch, I'd get it checked out. Mine went to 73k before giving out. 2. If you plan to do any off-roading, you'll shred up the flimsy plastic engine cover on the underside. See about getting a metal engine cover or skid plate, if you're into that sort of thing. 3. Get your oil changed every 3k, and tune-up at 60 and 75. Properly maintain this car, and it'll outlast you. 4. The 2.5 engines don't have any chronic problems that I know of. But, don't let the little thing fool you. It definitely has some go in it. Good luck and happy driving!
  15. Did it come with the manual? If so, the programming sequence should be in there. I think it's something like rapidly turning on and off the ignition while the door is open, then pushing the "lock" button on the key fob.
  16. I'm still the only Soob in my school's lot (right next to a monsterized Ramcharger).
  17. How much for the set? Those look very tempting.
  18. From a filmmaker's perspective, it looks very good. Retaping it through the TV added an interesting effect to it. Oh, and if you want to get rid of that bar over the top of the screen (because the camera shutter was out of sync with the tv), see if your camera has a setting for "slow shutter"... to make it look like 24-frame/sec film. That'll fix it. Also, what editing software are you using?
  19. There was a shooting here in Dallas recently. Some dudes in a Jag pulled a 12-gauge on some other guys after a bar fight. Three dead, one in extreme critical. What the hell is the world coming to?
  20. I used to drive an old 240D. It was waaay too much trouble because the previous owner (my grandmother) never took care of it. It ended up becoming a 2-ton cube.
  21. Welcome to the board. Being in Texas, I don't know much about snow, but I do know that Subarus are the best cars for them.
  22. According to my 01 manual, the S model came with the rear LSD, but the L model didn't. Since Decker has an S, it should already have an LSD, so that'll knock a few hundred off your tab.
  23. I liked the one where the white car hits a tree, flips over, then after a delay of a second or two, bursts into flames.
  24. All that "MacGyver"-rigging in your car and a little fuse was the problem? Jeez! It's amazing how the smallest parts can put the biggest dents in our lives.
