From the first photos I saw I thought it was tube frame with canvas. I think that would be awesome. I'm cooling on this model, thinking about trying to build my own.

Here's a completed EBay UK post with photos. Not pretty but very functional. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/231820320453?_mwBanner=1

Hello all. I'm interested in putting a bed topper on my 78 brat, though I've got to say I'm not a fan of the fiberglass ones we see in the US. I just learned about the Ilfor Williams toppers sold in the UK and I think they look a lot more like what I'm after. They're a steel frame with an aluminum inner skin. A Brit on Facebook has offered to find me a nice one for free if I pay freight. That leads me to a few questions of course. Did these get to Canada by any chance? Are toppers gen specific? Any of you ship something if this size across the pond? Anyone else want one? Thanks, Dennis

Received my gasket in just a few days. Nice. It will be great having a new one in there after paint this winter. I had hoped that the replacement would have omitted the trim channel. It's there, of course, and beggars can't be choosers. Is the trim a commonly available item? Can I run without it? Thanks again to all who worked to make the seal available!

Are the Brats Jump Seats Legal to use?
Grisezd replied to Wiclipse95's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Check with local LE. My county sheriff said no restriction for adults (seated on floor or in oem seats, law must have had Brat in mind) but minors aren't allowed over 25 mph. That may be totally correct or not, but that's how they'll ticket. -

I have the passenger door to look at, but if you're out there anyway some photos could help. Silicone caulk? -

Thanks. I'll get it all cleaned up and give some glue a shot. Anybody know which side is "up"? -
Need Help with Door Window - 78 Brat
Grisezd posted a topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Hi all. I'm slowly pulling my Brat together and now I'm working on the poorly-operating driver's door window. It rattled in the door when it was down, came up crooked and rough, but with a little help (pulling up while cranking) it would seat properly all the way up. Going down it would seem to operate normal (if a little stiff) for a few inches then fall crooked, wind to the bottom and flatten out, but rattle in the door. I pulled the regulator, gave it a cleaning and greasing. It seems fine. So I started working the window up and down without the regulator and found it was catching on the front edge about half way up. I finally saw what it was running into. The white plastic window guide that rides in the front track is no longer with the window. It was stuck at the top of the track. The front edge of the window glass would jump and skip into it on the way up, slide out on the way down. I removed it, cleaned it up, and seated the front edge of the glass into it and it into the track. The window would glide up and down nice and square. When I installed the regulator and wound the window down and up the glass skipped back out of the plastic guide. So, can someone please tell me how this thing is supposed to stay with the glass? The rear guide seems to be pinned to the bottom of the frame, this seems to have no such provision. And which way is up? Thanks, Dennis -

I did that on an 82 Renault. Mostly to simplify the engine bay in prep for other work. Just plugged the port in the manifold (in my case) and removed the pump and lines. No problem. -
I'm in for one in xxl!

Thanks! Those prices seem a lot more in line with what I had in mind. I'll take the pieces around and see if I can get a good price.

Hi all. I've got a 78 Brat that I'm playing around with. The seat covers and door cards are torn and brown, I'd like them to be not torn and black. I'm not finding any kits and my first call to a shop has me a little scared ($1800US). Are there kits? If not, what's a reasonable price to pay to recover 2 seats and door cards? It its really going to cost more than the car I'll probably just change the seats and go DIY on the door panels. Thanks, Dennis

The pre-heater duct on the header shouldn't have exhaust gas flowing through it, just fresh air that is warmed by the hot header. -

It's just worn out. A good auto parts store will have universal replacements.
