  1. some one has done a hack&slash on the loom and all the wires going to the ecu......and my wiring skill blows chunks
  2. hmmm might have a problem... there i wonder if the ECU could be modified so it would run without any fuel control inputs the reason i want to run a carb is that LPG/Propane here is about 1/2 the cost of petrol.....and im not willing to spent 2900 euros to import a LPG fuel injection system from europe (Italy actualy)
  3. how would you alter the injectors open/close cycle? im in the middle of finding out how to run a ej ignition system without an ecu so i can run a propane carburetor
  4. if your bender is causeing the pipe to ripple on the inside of the bend then the die your using is too tight a radiace for the tensile strength of the pipe your using, most bender dies are still set up for the 'old school' pipe that was alot softer than the modern steel if you ever get the notion to bend aluminium tube, smear where you want to bend it with new engine oil then burn it off with a gas torch or heat gun until the oil just dissapears as this is takes the annealing out of the alloy and makes it really soft and it bends without rippling.........hows that for some useless info!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. check the bolts that hold the tie bar (that stops the arm from moving back and forth) onto your suspension arm as even a little movement in these can cause what your discribeing. if your driving see if accelerating and decelerating (gently) cause it to pull from one side to the other
  6. i got to find out just what ej it is yet, i was told its a 2.4L so i figger it's either a 2.2 or 2.5 . gearbox should be coming with it but again i don't know if its manual or auto. but hey its cheap as so i thought why not i can always sell the ej trans if i don't want it as long as it cranks 130hp or more i can live with it stock.......for awhile:brow:
  7. he's running fat feet isn't he? stock'ish diameter wheels wouldn't put as much stress on the gearbox, would it?
  8. how much power can a ea81 4 speed d/r gearbox take without 'exiting stage left' the reason i ask is that i think i have scored a ej and need to know if my 'box is going to be strong enough. don't know what size of ej it is yet it was offered to me by my G/F's father who is a v8 man and had no idea that subaru's came in differnt sizes...... thanks for any help
  9. where did you import the hatch from? i wasn't aware they where made RHD(edit) just read couple off your other posts an got all my questions answer'd
  10. dude can you 'bob the tail a bit? that might help there used to be a legacy wagon near here that got cutdown into a ute, i wasn't intersted in subaru's when i saw it so i never took much notice, the rear doors were welded shut though (we welders notice dodgy welding from miles away)
  11. i bought a nearly complete ,disassembled solid lifter motor so im not going to mess with my hydraulic motor. now all i got to do is find solid lifter valve trains and pushrods as it is missing these.....i just had a thought, will the valve train (shaft and rocker arm assembly) from a ea71 swap onto a ea81? i can get any number of ea71 heads that want (local subaru wrecker has 4 complete ea71 engines on the shelf) but ea81's are a bit harder to find apart from valve size are there any differences in the heads?
  12. as far as i know the ej series gearbox's all interchange and i do know that a legecy box will go into a wrx so i would think it would go the other way as well
  13. yeah well i know..its immoral but hey what can i say, im a mechanical butcher:banana:
  14. all second hand, the regulator in brumby came out of a nissan van so i was told, the mixer i was useing with the blower was from a 3.9 foul-coon:lol: as was the tank check round wreckers for gear that looks good or even better is still under cert
  15. If you can think of any traps or tips, please let me know. Good luck with the new donk, Matt make sure your ignition system is in top shape as you need a really good spark see if you can get hold of a lambda fuel gas controller its basictly a butterfly valve controlled by a lambda probe that go's between your regulator and your carb, it automaticly tunes the air/fuel ratio they make tuneing a real easy try to get the reg and the carbs as close as possible so the gas doesn't have go any further than necessary between the reg and carb/s
  16. my tank is in the tray in front of the wheel archs, it holds 80L of lpg Gas also means less oil changes if your running top-line synthetic oil filter changes at normal intervals tho'
  17. we have stacks of ej18's here, 1 in 7 cars in the south island of new zealand are subaru's , most of the impreza's that arn't WRX spec are EJ18 powered. they are a good solid motor with excellent reliability BTW the first impreza WRXs & STi's hit the deck here in 1992
  18. im on straight gas as its cheaper than petrol and i don't have the hassel of trying to tune for both (hmmmmm its actualy on jackstands at the moment so i guess its currently 'on steel' ) have you had any problems with the alloy push rods? 4mm taller than standard is a little more than i would have thought possible,....guess you learn sum'it every day it that a standard ea81 or ea82 piston your comparing to?
  19. hell yeah...... i am just a little worry'd the spfi pistons possibly hitting the head, being that the word is they're taller in the pin to crown height what pistons are in your dual port?
  20. hmmmmm.....well it looks like i need new pistons anyway.........
  21. has anyone put SPFI ea82 pistons in a ea81? if so,what was the resulting CR and are the SPFI pistons different to carb or MPFI slugs?
  22. hmmm might have to to add spfi pistons to the shopping list, i hope my parts supplier has them listed....... mind you with them saying they have 4 different ring thickness's available, chances are looking good as for the heads staying on, i found these great things called cable ties.....
  23. in the short term no, we lost everything on the harddrive after we had to reinstall windows after we got virused (now i can't even upload holiday pics because it keeps coming up with some crap about some system error, i hate tecnology ) i think dad has a couple of photos from when i was building and playing with the inlet manifold but they won't be much as i only had it half done when he showed up to have a look. I'll ask him next time i see him sorry man i know there are a few ppl that want to see what it was like before the legalitys stuck their nose in
