  1. seriously though. changing the whole column is WAY easier than changing the bearings. i tried changing the bearings in my '86 and ended up just replacing the column. and i even have all the tools to do the bearings. its just plain easier. unbolt old one, bolt in new one. good luck anyway.
  2. i know for SURE that im keeping the PS instead of going back to manual. when i wheel Shelby, stock tires/no PS, she bucks like crazy in hard turning. PS is so much nicer.
  3. yes. exactly. im in deep consideration (with "help" from my wife) on whether or not i want to go the "notsosubaru" route. afterall, i did start the soob thing cause it was cheap and parts were everywhere. too many projects. i need to get my bike done:lol:
  4. im not using the EA81. its on the battlewagon - '86 . like i said though, im still trying to figure out if i want to do my toyota axle setup seeing how i didnt like breaking that rack on the trail. we'll see. that might be another part i keep in the roof rack for breaks... doesnt weigh much........ sh"t. might as well be wheeling toyotas again if i change over to that drivetrain. didnt i get into this to wheel "subarus" - that should be a thread. "when does it stop being a subaru?"
  5. would that be a right hand drive though??? would the column be the same as here? wouldnt be that hard for you to wire one of us here in washington the money and we could pull a column for you from PAP and ship it. ive shipped bigger parts to italy.......
  6. actually the entire column exchange IS pretty easy. 2 bolts to get the column loose(right under the column - 12MM), couple plugs for the wiring and then the 2 bolts at the firewall and the 2 12MM bolts for the steering knuckle. pulls straight out. ONLY PROBLEM - U need to drill out the 2 aluminum rivets that hold the ignition on to the columns and put YOUR ignition on the new column so you can use your keys. basically the rivets are 12MM thread so when you drill the back of the alum rivets out, you bolt it back on with 2 12MM bolts on the column. if you get in there youll see everything i mentioned here. might be a good learning experience for you if your dad is busy?? i know i was working on verhicles when i was AT LEAST 14........ you might have trouble getting the column though. dont know how available they are where you are. good luck anyway.
  7. okay. that works enough for me. thanks for the responses guys.
  8. heelllooooo???? anyone else care to spend the 30 seconds to drop an answer?? (sometimes i wonder if its even worth posting threads when you barely get anyone to answer.) maybe someone has figured out some alternative other than straight axles....
  9. well, the pass steering arm broke clean out of the rack and pinion body.i had to "trail" weld a tire iron inbetween it to get back. was on some pretty big rocks though, so i guess that might have done it.
  10. one thing i havent seen mentioned by anyone much is how well is everyone pushing bigger swampers/mud terrains with the stock R&P manual or power. im talking 27 to 30" range. i ran around on 31x10.5's on the battlewagon for a while and the PS R&P DIDNT like it too much. it worked but i got some trouble moving the meat in some difficult turns or when the tire got locked up on something. already broke one R&P....... im changing to toyota axles and Tcase setup even as its raining here in our washington summer.......
  11. wrong AGAIN. man. figure it out guys. if this was true then EVERY lift kit for EVERY truck wouldnt be a "suspension lift". you can shove 28" of lift under a solid axle truck an still have 9" under the front and rear diff if you dont put bigger tires on it simply because "thats the lowest point of the vehicle". and you cant really classify it as a body lift because it doesnt have a frame. like everything else on or about a subaru, its in a class all by itself. whatever. im over it.
  12. wrong. seeing how a subaru is a unibody, no frame, any lift manufactured to drop the suspension from the body would be classified as a suspension lift. if you were to body lift a toyota pickup, yes, it would simply give you more clearance for tires from the fenders. because it has a frame. an easy way to prove this point. measure the body clearance of the bottom of the body of a car with no lift. then measure the body clearance of a car WITH a lift. higher number = more ground clearance = suspension lift. henceforth - any lift manufactured to drop the suspension from the body of the car (subaru), would be considered a suspension lift. seeing how its unibody and all. and thats MY two cents......
  13. i would LIKE to reply with BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH..... go ride your bicycle. BUT, i will instead say this... agreed.... to a point. trails do need to be respected if they are specifically designated. if youre in an area where there is no "designation" such as reiter, then anythings game. and private land is a whole other story. anything goes there if youre not trespassing.
  14. patronizing know it all.......
  15. heres a couple pics of the quad trail that swervey and i found above my house in goldbar. this is the powerline access road of course..... heres the trail. you can KINDA see it between the two cars. right now swervey's wagon is stuck. i bombed past him in the hatch and then we dug him out from the stump he was on. notice the power all the way at the bottom of the hill. it was a really long trail. and heres the top. where it dead ends into nothing. oh well, the whole thing was trying to see where it went.cascades in the background look great too. anyway. most all of this was on private property. unbeknownst to us. signs up stated a "use at your own risk/use it dont abuse it" mantra. when we were up top downing a couple wonderful Miller High Lifes, a dude on a polaris showed up out of the trees and almost shat himself seeing these two economicaly - correct cars at the top of his quad trail. could NOT believe that we made it up the trail. turns out, we came off his land, crossed some crabby fellows land and ended up on his land again. said crabby fellow shoots at trespassers dude says. he said it would be in our best interests to scee-daddle so we did. he followed us down to the road that we came in on and his brother was waiting for us and we all stood there and had beers and talked s##t about said crabby fellow with the blatant disregard for firearms. both brothers stated that they wouldnt mind at all if we ran around on their property but since we had to cross crabby fellows property it probably wouldnt be a good idea. all shook hands and parted ways. good times. good times.
  16. dirty commie libby. suck your lip back in, you might drag it in the s**t you just stepped in.
  17. good enough guys, thanks. im selling the car so i dont car about the low range. i more wanted to know if it would bolt in and if the axles were the same. and for the record - yes, i know what a diff is grossgary.
  18. just checking to see if anyone can tell me if the EA82T and the EA82 5sp DR are the same. ive got a coupe im looking at buying to put another trans into. ive got a non turbo 4x4 DR 5sp trans sitting in the garage but i dont know if they are different ratings/strengths. anyone know?
  19. gee, that hurricane tiedown strap youre using to bolt your extinguisher down with sure looks nice and sharp to gash your hands on when the rig rolls
  20. yah, um. i dont think jerry got the joke here. btw: i dont really need to buy some kit someone makes. the stock boots work fine. i just didnt throw them on in the 5 minutes it took to jump in the car and hit the dirt after the conversion.
  21. now, THAT, is ghetto. would look pretty funny though.
  22. heres a custom shifter boot idea for anyone having trouble figuring out how to cover the huge hole left in the floor from any trans or motor conversions. works great!! enjoy!!

    Doorless?

true, true. toyotas are that easy too. that would mean that almost every vehicle aside from GM's (cause they are welded on) are equipped with removable doors.

    Doorless?

washington has a provision for no doors. "if the vehicle was originally equipped from the factory with removable doors". thats the provision y'all r talking about for jeeps. i used to deal with this when i wheeled toyotas. though, it all depends on the cops. if they want to pull you over or if they dont . anyway, you really dont get hassled much for it - unless youre in lynn'hood.
