My SVX idea.
wrxsubaru replied to ringe's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
I dont think you would even save 150 pounds switching to a ej20t, or a ej25t the turbo stuff weighs alot and both engines are all aluminum. You should try to lighten the car up, you sabosabley save 150 pounds switching to the 5spd, you can save another 40 pounds by a carbon fiber hood, and another probley 100 by switching the seats out and putting in some nice after market ones in. You could probley save 300-400 pounds by lots of small stuff, and big stuff like the trannie. -
when my dad test frove a auto wagon, only wrx the dealer had left,(when the WRX was newer) The trannie had to much lag you would floor it, then wait for the down shift, then the boost the car felt alot slower and and it was never ready for a quick pass, it would be probley 2 secs before you could get some power in a lower gear. Latter My dad test drove a manule WRX and it felt alot faster, seemed to have half the lag of the auto, and if you floored it you would just wait for boost, not the trannie to shift then boost.

hmmm... uhhh.. this is Corey, and I never said **** about my car being faster than an STi, I'm not that stupid. Yea, it's true that I only spent like $26 to make a "boost controller thing" but its not like that is the only thing I have done. I have a 3in exhaust ALL the way back from the turbo, with a built in custom 3in elbow on the downpipe. If I just put a boost controller on and no mods to the exhaust, the car would not be NEAR as fast, turbos run on exhaust (obviously) and the stock exhaust is restrictive as hell. Plus the car would probably end up leaning out and I woud **** the **** outta my head, yea.... Why do you talk about **** you don't know....My car is faster than a stock TT 300z, but not an STi!! and YOU were tellin me that EVO 8's are SLOW!

Ok lets see how much was spent on his supra, blown haed gasket, replcaed with a metal one $500,(Mk3 supra have a worse problem with blowing there head gasket than any other car i know) extremley resitive ehust replaced $500, boost controler, $30, bow off vale $30, tires to get the power to the ground like $400, how dfast is his car low 14s, high 13s, to get his car faster he has to get the turbo upgraded $500, complet new fuel system, fuel pump, injectors, rechiped ECU, $1500, and he would probley only be in the mid 13s, its hard to get the car faster than that on street tires. He not that close to a STI he never said he could keep up with a STI, he dosent really think he could keep up with a forester turbo. Corey spent about $1400, on is supra and it doesent run near as relible as a STI would. I ment it would be hard to get the 300z turbo to run relible 13.0sc quarters. Stock the sti would w300z turbo, a wrx would be a competer on a race course with a 300z twin turbo.

Jaguar when bought by ford only improved becasue they were probley the most unrelible cars on the road that were being sold. One of my friiends works at a jaguar dealler as a mechanic and he said he has replcaed 5 auto trannies in the new S type(all under 15,000 miles), and there not easy at all the replace, you have to take out the whole front subaframe with the enigne and tranny. If GM starts to make desicons for subaru i dont subarus reliblity or performance would improve. GM cant even get there daytime running lights to work for more than a year. A GM in a GM add has one of its daytime running lights burned out, and the car is sposer to be brand new:( .

All I am saying is the money that the magazine spent on the 300Z must be over $40,000 you could buy a brand new STI and invest the rest on it into the motor and have a faster car. They did spend money that dident need to be spent on the car, nesaceraly but they spent it on the car so they would retain some reliblity. putting out 600 horsepower on a car that came stock with 300 horsepower things will break if you leave them stock. They dident spend that much on the body kits. They had the engine rebuilt from scrach, with beefier internals, new turbos, inercooler, and they replaced most plastic stuff under the hood with metal so they wont melt, becasue 300z have a reputaion for havong extremley high temps under the hood. The toyota 2jzegte engine one of the strongest enignes made can only handle about 600 horse on stock internals, but it will break something within 10,000 miles garentied. Iam not syaing you cant make a 300z that can go faster in a stright line than a STI excpecialy with 24 grand all aim saying is to retain reliblity and still be faster in a stright line is alot harder.

Nissian 96 300Z turbo specs from http://www.supercars.net http://www.supercars.net/cars/1996@$Nissan@$300ZX%20Turbog.html flywheel horse power 300 flywheel torq 283 weight 3481 lbs topspeed 249.4 kph / 155.0 mph 0-60 6.5 seconds 0 -1/4 mile 15.0 seconds 0 - 100MPH 16.5 seconds Lateral Acceleraction 0.91g slalom no way can 300z out slalom a STI No way posible, the STI beats Zo6 corvetts 60-0 not going to beat the STI dont know but its not as good as the STI. EPA City/highway 18 / 24 mpg Subaru 04 WRX STI specs from sport compact car. wheel horse power 257 wheel torue 266 curb weight 3263 lbs 0-60 4.9 seconds 0-1/4 mile 13.1 @105 mph 0-100 less than 13 secs lateral acceration 0.91g slaom speed 70.7 mph 60-0 110 feet Over all the STI ties(once)or beats the 300z in every contest of speed, I bet the STI can even go 155MPH. You would have to do alot to get the 300z to run 13.1 sec quarter miles times, thats almost 2 full seconds off the 1/4 mile time. With the money invested into the 300Z you could get a new exhust, and intake for the STI and get it onto the higher 12 sec barrier, and you wouldent have the problemsb getting the power to the ground. Also sport compact car has a 300z with 560 wheel horse power and 549 foot pounds of torq at the wheels, and it runs a 12.8 sec quarter mile. they say it has problems with bog or boil, and it has a very hard time getting the power to the ground. They said with a clutch that wouldent grab so hard it would run a low12 high 11, but it runs a 12.8. with the money they invested in the 300z you could have a brand new STI and about 15 grand to mess around with. Iam sure you could get the STI into the 11s with that much money. It dosent matter how much power you have, it matters how fast you can go.
