Hehe, I guess I could be forgiven for some of you not knowing me I have been getting around here for a fair bit of time - I am a moderator on the Ausubaru board... What I am getting at is that in Australia we can legally fit 2" kits, but thats all, no 8" lifts, no 12" lifts etc etc. I guess we could do the divorced transfer case if we modified the driveshafts enough... About the most hardcore that we can actually get away with is the 3/4" kits so long as no cops get suspicious!! Anything over 2" lift you are basically running the risk of a defect notice - and to get it engineered by a licensed engineer it costs more than a kit does.

The cars you guys are building are awesome, you get away with so much in the states.... I wish we could build cars with 30" tyres and divorced t-cases etc and legally drive them on the street!!!

82 leone GL conversion options?
RXTurbo replied to squarkyd's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a 83 4wd coupe (auto) that was converted. You need to drill holes in the floor to fit the rear suspension from a wagon or brumby to make it work. You need the fuel tanks too. I have a single range 4spd 4wd ready to go into it when I get half a chance. email me on benjamin_marsh@REMOVEdodo.com.au of you hav any questions. Ben -
Hey - mostly this is aimed at Adam and Mudrat, I just have a quick question about the huge lifts with separate transfer cases... How do you mount the engine? Do you just put lifting blocks underneath the engine mounts as well or is it more complicated? Also, how do you get around the increasing of length of steering arm without welding? BTW - Great work on the Rubicon, we even know that trail over here in Oz as being severely hardcore!!!

ea81 to ea82 swap *sticky?*
RXTurbo replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No one has covered what has to be done to the chassis rails to make it fit (if anyhting at all) thanks -
I honestly don't see the issue with any of the subaru transmissions taking a 400hp load all day every day, it's when people abuse them that causes the trouble! Oh yeah, having to change gears wears them out too!

Australian Magazine Article: EJ20T Subaru Leone (RX)
RXTurbo replied to RXTurbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The Autospeed car is 4wd, all subaru awd gearboxes are front biased, which means it becomes very easy once you have a bit of grunt to smoke the fronts up - especially if you just have 13" tyres on, which are very hard to get performance road rubber for! -
Australian Magazine Article: EJ20T Subaru Leone (RX)
RXTurbo replied to RXTurbo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
C'mon Guys, I 'm not nearly that docile to post the Autospeed article again.... The article I had posted was from this months issue of Zoom magazine, It was probably the nicest looking 4 door EJ conversion I have seen yet.... Here is the first two pics of the article for a teaser.. -
Okay, from the above posts I figure that the more angles the better, Would a spherical section on the valve and seat be then even better?

Hiya An Australian magazine 'Zoom' has published an article of an Australian built Subaru RX sedan with full Liberty (Legacy) RS driveline. The thread is approx 1 Mb so keep that in mind if you are on dialup or download limits - the articles are worth reading if you are considering doing this swap as the author gives some of the 'secrets' away. Anyway, sit back and enjoy! http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=conversions;action=display;num=1069232800;start=0#0

The only way you will get gen III heads in Australia is if they were imported as no model was imported by Subaru with these heads. You might get lucky at the AuSubaru forum on http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl where some posters may have these heads. Regards

You will require intercooling and a aftermarket programmable ecu, it will work without one, but expect a dead motor. Yes you will get increased power.

Anyone here done a 4x100 conversion?
RXTurbo replied to SubaRube's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Are those Fiero's any good? I want one!!! never seen one of those before.... Turning the rear drums into 5X100 is actually pretty easy, it's the front thats a pain!! -

RXTurbo replied to SubaRube's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The locating centre isn't actually there to locate the wheel - it is there to stop the wheel from moving on the same plane as the hub, all the lugs do is hold the wheel against the hub. No centre will result in broken wheel studs - especially if smaller stud spline diameter is used.... -

Rallywagon - very nicely said, couldn't have written it better myself! One question though - how did you get the 54mm centre on the rear drums? I have concerns to fit a rim without any locating centre at the rear... Regards Ben -

Yeah, rear disks are better - for anyone that has cut cast iron, compared to mild steel it cuts like butter. -
Anyone running aftermarket or custom intake manifold?
RXTurbo replied to Dante's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have plans for a wildly torquey ea82 turbo in preparation. I have a pair of heads and am fully intending on building a completely custom intake manifold to suit. If you have ever seen a EA manifold cut in half you would agree that they are crap. The diameter of the tube gets down to as low as 1/2" which is just unacceptable for making power. I intend on using 1" id aluminium tube for the manifold and completely separating the coolant flow from the intake, which will also gain power. Basically I want to be gaining peak torque at around 2000rpm or lower, this will make the car better offroad with 27" tyres. with a small turbo aimed at creating peak boost by 1500rpm - anyway, that's getting off track!! Yes, build a new manifold - you will vastly improve the system!! -

Hey - I am the one who did most of the posting on the BYB site about doing the conversion. I use a lathe and milling machine to do it so it is accurate to within a thou, this avoids vibrations. I am also concerned with the additional stresses placed on the hub by using a smaller diamter PCD and prefer to use 4x114.3 but 4x100 is easier. It is completely impossible to drill 5x100 on a EA car hub. I am also not a hug fan of drilling rear drums, contrary to popular belief but cast iron really isn't that strong, drilling it causes small cracks on the breakthrough similar to drilling a piece of melamine, any place a crack forms is a weakness. I am working on a complete hub replacement without relying on Legacy or XT6 parts that will allow the full range of 5x100 rims and also all the legacy brake rotors. But this is sometime down the track and is going to require cash I don't have at the moment. Anyway once I have it I will let the Subaru world know all about it!! If you have any questions about this please email me. I don't visit the USMB too often.
