3.90 rear LSD question. . .
superu replied to superu's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHmm, yeah I spent an hour at the dealer quizing their 36 year master mechanic... He "remembers" there being a 3.9 LSD, but for the life of him couldn't rememebr where other than they were only on a couple cars.. So finding an LS 4.11 pumpkin and gutting its viscera would likely be way easier than searching the world over? Which vehicles (95 and up) had them, I guess it was optional or would there be a blanket model/trim I could look for, like 99 outbacks, or '03 feresters, etc? Thanks for the beta. . .

Not yet, but easy to do... I plan on a thin pai b/t the tubes on either side of the license plate, and a pair of KC slimlites on top (like where off roaders are mounted...) Andyjo, heh heh heh, nice thought...- lifting new-baru's?
superu replied to stoner72's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI second... With the outback swap and 205x75 14s i love the clearance, but don't have the gearing for steep... I can get out from the pavement but am limited up ups.. I got a stage II exedy clutch which is uber tight and WAY stronger than my motor, but though it can hold i don't have the gearing to apply the torque for steep... Higher is easy with struts, and I think on newer than 95s you can get an additional lift (back yard boys or scorpion) which ammounts to a block mounted on the strut mounts to drop the strut further from the unibody mounts... The struts give you 2.5 and tires (that fit in the qwell) can give you another inch EASILY... beyond that you're looking at real lifts... Its fun!!! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2466&d=1114457179- 90's Gens only!
Right on Imprezas!! I'm working on lights, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2466&d=1114457179- 3.90 rear LSD question. . .
I'd like to put an LSD in my 95 legacy (has 3.9) but don't want the hastle of swapping out front and rear diffs for 4.11. So which vehicles came with factory 3.90 LSD rear that i should search for for the bolt in rear LSD?- Lifting a New Gen Subaru, for Dummies (With Pictures!)
nice write up! I coped out to my mechanic for the labor, but he too cut the brake line clip on the stock struts... Yeah bricks crumble, but the log back up is nice (i.e. pix of my brat), but jack stands are glorious!! Now if we can get someone to do the same thing for further lifting, like the blocks on bajas, and how to further lift new gens like Forester Ranger's forester... But well put and posted!! -mw-- Pics of the new wheels mounted on the brat
Man that's a sharp lookin' brat!!! looks great!!- Reviving '80 brat (still)
vaccum splice this image shows where the 78 wagon has a vaccum splice NOT illustrate on the diagram... I relined the hose according to the diagram, ignoring this plice, but wonder about its function...- Reviving '80 brat (still)
Thanks again Todd, it feels like progress!! Saturday (when cell minutes are free, I'll call you again... attached are pix of the engine bay, carb (with leaking location) and coil... talk to you soon...- Reviving '80 brat (still)
Nope, not yet... Its freakin' cold here right now!! As per 2 am conversation with subaru3, i switched distrbutors and got all new vaccuum lines. The carb was leaking rather profusly (I don't know the part names but front driver side, on the front side opposite the fuel line), so i switched carbs for a another i had (looked much cleaner), and put on all new vaccuum lines matching the sticker on the hood, but this one seems to leak as bad... Anyhoo, i may out ont a few more layers and go for it some more in a bit but the 33 degrees is rather uninviting... It did knind of cough a bit (maybe its my imagination), but i shhould still gasket seal the intake and thread treat the intake bolts (thanx todd), but i want it to sputter and idel a bit, that'll be a lot more symbol of progress!!- Reviving '80 brat (still)
Dooh, conputers.. So here's the real stock intake . . .- Reviving '80 brat (still)
So here's some pix of the stock engine and intake and the doner engine and intake so you can have a feeling of what I'm working with...... So they're both EA71s...- Reviving '80 brat (still)
So, as some may remember, I got an '80 brat with a toasted engine, but a doner 1300 to go with.. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2476 The car sat for 10 years in a field and I got it free As my summer project, I've pulled, checked replaced all brakes, pulled and pressure tested the gas tank, pulled the engine and dropped the doner engine (i think a '78 1300). The block was different so I couldn't keep the original brat intake, so matching up hoses and such has been interesting... So I've got things switched, and it'll crank, but not fire... I've got no spark, and have tried lots of ghetto hook ups to make sure the coil's getting juice, but to no avail... I also have a '78 wagon doner, that runs but no drive.. I've raped front CV's from the wagon to the brat, and have hooked up the coil but no dice... There's an electrical connection from the firewall that goes up to the alt, carb, dist, etc, but there is a 2-plug connection that has nowehere to go on the doner intake, which had a place to go on the original intake... Ideas, suggestions, HELP?!! I'm close but still far from driving it . . . .- Lemme see those pics of your bumper/brush guard, skidplates
Mudrat designs... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2466 '95 legacy, custom 1/8" steel skidplate...- Forester keeps up with trucks in the Snow
right on, so houw strong is the low range from the older tranny? how well does it climb? Does the clutch hold the car, or slip on steeper climbs or did you beef it up? I know (from John) the forester was on its way out which is part of why you went the d/r route, but jus curious about how well it does as a 4x4, and how well it does as a street FWD.. i know the lift and tires kill the MPG, but otherwise what are you driving impressions? Bummer we didn't meet last X-mas when I got my tube bumper, but such is the way.. take care yo! -mw-- Forester keeps up with trucks in the Snow
I've not been on the board in many months but interested to know how you D/R is perfoming now after you've had it a while.. I'm a mudrat customer too, outback strut swap an discoverer AT's on my legacy... I've thought about the D/R swap and now anotehr thread in the new gen mentions maybe importing the newer d/r.. Anyhoo, your forester dertainly rocks and i look forward to more news and clips of its capabilities with the d/r. -mark-- perfect skid pan for a legacy
That's certainly a nice econimical way to go for some protection for sure. Deffintelly good for road anddirt/ gravel stuff... Wouldn't really offroad expecting it to protect, but something is WAY better than nithing.. Good discovery!- Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
I dig te WRX wheels, thought of powdercoating a set for the superu, but didn't go that way.. Do youhave an issue with snow/ice build-up on the steel wheel sin the winter? Drove me crazy, kept throwing off the balance and had to keep chipping it out.. Anyhoo, got aftermarket now, we'll see this winter, if we ever get snow ... Drop a line next time in Flagstaff! -mw-- Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
That's great country, about 3-4 hours from my door! nice pix- i jumped the loyale
Ditto launched my 95 legacy off a cattle guard, had a nice approach at got to about 50 or so, good lauch, NICE landing and great distance.. Problem is noone outside to see or photo it good fun though!! HOORAY FOR SEATBELTS- New Dual Range!!!
superu replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLike everyone else, I'd certainly like to know the cost... I know you can get a redone dual range through Mudrat w/ lockers for around a grand (forester ranger has he first d/r in a US forester) But I'd more like a tranny that's built for an AE2.2 rather than dealing with a newer engine.. A rebuilt d/r for my 95 lagacy would certainly be sweet!! I've got the height (outback srut lift), but can't do steep, about anything else I'm cool with... Keep us posted, I may be psyched for the right price...- Pics of more mods!
Lookin' good!! when're you getting the mudrat tube bumper?? Did you upsize your exhaust behind the cat? Sounds nice with a 2.25 cat-back, you could pull off the second cat too, but I'd suggest keeping them both for the back pressure and maintaing your low-end torque... Have you taken out your intake resonator from under the passenger fender? That makes a huge difference in sound!! I think you know, I'm running 2.25 cat back through a magnaflow, sounds great with a K&N box filter and no intake box crap... You'll like it 9if you haven't done it already!! I like the lights, still haven't gotten mine Keep it coming!!- leg-a-CEE needs an L-S-D!
Does anyone else have any more info for what I should be looking for or from what doner cars a LSD (rear first i soppose) will work in my 95 leg?- '03 offroad outback.....
Looking good man!! So I'm thinking about hunting down LSD's for my 95 legacy... What's the deal on rear LSD but not in front? As i understand it these new gen AWD's are basically 90/10 front/rear during normal driving then the center diff kicks in in low traction etc... So would I want to go for rear AND front LSDs if I can find them, or would the superu be psyched on rear alone? I haven't gotten stuck yet, almost while pulling my neighbor out of snow and high centering me on a bank, but worked it out... Anyhoo, I dig your car, you and the baja were my tube bumper inspiratations, and your rig's looking tight with the new rims! I'd show you better pix of my roof rack with bike, snowboard racks and basket with shovel and full size spare, but i took it off for around town cruising, and now the snow's gone here I don't need all that gear... but there are some pix floating around the site all over... -mw- - 90's Gens only!
