  1. From the vendors section...cheers pesky Just thought I should post up in here so people will know how to contact me. I make bumpers, roof racks, and other off-road acssesories for Subarus of the EA81&EA82 style. Phone: (541) 326-9745 E-mail: twbfab@pirate4x4.com Or just PM me;)
  2. LOVE this idea! I've spent quite a few days camping in the back of my gl wagon in Baja. We use a tent to cook in, but found it's better to sleep in the wagon as the wind can really blow there!! sometimes for 3-4 days straight and a flapping tent keeps me awake. Sweet, keep us posted! Cheers Pesky
  3. This is a piece of cake for a machine shop to do UNLESS they are real goobs!! but if you didn't ask for a quote beforehand you are kinda at there "mercy"......believe I woulda told em to eat it when presented a bill for $250!! Pesky
  4. A Subaru waqgon is the result of a Suburban and a VW making babies!! Love mine, does way too much stuff that it shouldn't. If your Suburban can do it a Subuaru will as well!!! AND you will have $$ leftover for good bait. Cheers Pesky
  5. 26 to 30mpg on a stock 87 gl wagon 4wd spfi, I do notice 10 to 15% worse when I put my yakima rack on. Cheers Pesky
  6. Taller tires will give you some lift but, too tall and you will need a lift kit anyway.......Cheers Pesky
  7. Thanks to all that replied. I did a search and see that this subject is well covered with lots of different opinions but nice to notice that my symptoms are consistent with others. Gonna try to find some Redline this weekend. Cheers Pesky
  8. Any favorite oil recommendation for a 87 DR tranny as it's time to change it. Cheers Pesky
  9. Saw a really nice brat at my mechanic's shop yesterday and had to wonder if the owner was on this list. It had Peugeot alloy wheels, a small lift and a ej22 motor installed (which was cool as that helped convince the mechanic it could be done as I was trying to talk him into slipping one of those puppies into my wagon....some day I hope) Funny thing is he only works on Subaru's and had never heard of the ej22 into an older car conversion??? WELL now he has to believe!
  10. OY MY!! now this has got me thinking...I take my gl wagon to Baja for a few weeks each winter to chase surf and have to go to the well known spots with reasonable access and sometimes crowds BUT with a extra set of wheels/tires I turn the wagon into a "sand no trouble atv" and go to another spot with a friend or 2 that doesn't have the great access!!! yeah baby!! Cheers Pesky
  11. Well I love most things about my 87 gl 4WD DR wagon EXCEPT the power-torque, so yes I want to sling a ej22 motor in it.......except I hate working on cars. So I have to find someone to do it and those guys are RARE. Someone in Michagan does them, that's a long way to drive from southern oregon just to get a motor put in and I know I could figure it out but... am way too back logged in my own business projects. I know there is a guy in Eugene that could do it but he seems to be running hot and cold after he says yes, that doesn't sound fun. So hopefully I'll run into the right guy. Cheers Pesky
  12. Thanks Hoozie!! I will give that a go. Love this board! I was born in Klamath Falls BTW, my dad, grandma and bunch of cousins still live there. Cheers Pesky
  13. This sounds about right to me for some reason. Any idea where the coolant temp sensor might be? Cheers Pesky
  14. Just bought another Subaru wagon, 87 gl with DR tranny, SPFI. Runs good overall but REALLY hard to start after sitting overnight. After a warm up it will re-start fine. Anything obvious I should check for? Cheers Pesky 15 Jan 2006 Well a basic tune-up cured the problem!! I'd just bought it and previous owner said his mechanic told him it needed bunch of stuff to fix so he dropped the price accordingly. I was convinced it was something bigish-expensive when all it wanted was a tune-up!! Big lesson there. Thanks for all info on the board as usual, you folks really help keep these cool cars going. Cheers Pesky PS off to Baja with it in a few weeks to chase surf.
