  1. Ok, so I don't know everything, and this is one of those things. My Father has a 91 Legacy, EJ22, and it has a red-line of 6500rpm and rev limit around 7000rpm. I just bought a 95 Legacy, EJ22, and it has a redline of 6000rpms and rev limit of 6000rpms. So what changed in the engines to cause this? Keith
  2. I know this might sound stupid, but did you try pulling it back out? I know that at some point Subaru went to Hydraulic clutches. If your car has a hydraulic clutch then there is the possibility of the pedal traveling far enough that a spring somewhere doesn't do it's job and the pedal stays. All I've ever done when that happened was reach down and pull the pedal back. Keith
  3. Try hosing down the engine good and looking for arcing. This would be best done at night, and you should rev the engine some. I found a bad sparkplug wire on a subaru once this way when the dealer could find nothing. Keith
  4. So then why would the engineers at subaru have put the ADV in if it didn't do soemthing? That's not like Subaru to have something that is useless. I myself will stick with OEM identical filters. Spending $3 more to have what the engineers at FHI wanted in there is cheap to me, but that's just my opinion. Keith
  5. What year is it? Is it one of the ones with the dreaded DOHC engine?
  6. You're talking about http://www.subaruparts.com? Technically I'm in the same boat. They replied to one e-mail I sent before I ordered something. Two phone messages and one e-mail later and I still haven't heard from them. Keith
  7. Associates Degree in electronics and over 7 years job experiance. Not a problem on that side, but as you said I would need a converter anyway. I think they were around $15 at Walmart so the Ebay thing seems like a deal. Keith
  8. So, since my 95 Legacy Wagon has seperate turn signal bulbs from the brake lights I need to buy an adapter to work with standard trailer light. The question is, are these things worth the extra money over doing it yourself? Trailer Light Connector Kit Same thing on Ebay really Cheap Keith
  9. Well, After two phone messages (one wednesday, one thursday) and on e-mail on friday, I still have not heard back from anyone at http://www.subaruparts.com directly. I did however receive an e-mail from DHL saying , "TACOMA SUBARU NISSAN SENT THE FOLLOWING SHIPMENTS ON JULY 30, 2004 TO KEITH KENNEDY VIA DHL EXPRESS DHL EXPRESS OR THE SENDER WILL NOT RECEIVE ANY REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL. SHIPMENT NUMBER TRACKING LINK ================================================================================ XXXXXXXXXXXX http://HTTP://TRACK.AIRBORNE.COM/ATRKNAV.ASP?SHIPMENTNUMBER=XXXXXXXXXXXX ================================================================================ TOTAL SHIPMENTS: 1 THANK YOU FOR USING DHL EXPRESS. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT USING DHL PRODUCTS AND SERVICES, PLEASE VISIT http://WWW.DHL.COM ================================================================================ DISCLAIMER: THIS MESSAGE WAS CREATED AT THE REQUEST OF THE SENDER. NO AUTHENTICATION OF EMAIL ADDRESSES HAS BEEN PERFORMED. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE FURTHER EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS, PLEASE CONTACT THE SENDER DIRECTLY. So, apparently they just decided to do something with out ever actually talking to me, even though in three seperate attempts I left them with a cell phone number I could be reached at. How long have these guys been around? Are they still going through some teething issues? I think I can safely say that I will never buy anything from them again unless it is a deal too good to be missed. Keith
  10. Check for rust on the mating surfaces. I just bought a Legacy with steel wheels that had been sitting for about 9 months. I had to gently heat the centers of the wheels with a torch to get them off. The lip on the wheels and the brakes started rusting together. Keith
  11. Well, there is a big difference between what you find in a lawn mower and a K&N filter. Lawn movers come with something about the same pore size as a kitchen spounge. On that note, I'm not trying to out think anyone. I do though work on new product developement and design tools and testers. I feel its safe to say in that even though my title may me technician, I am really an engineer. Rule #1 for any engineer in a for profit company is cost. Every product we desing starts out with a product feature/spec list and a target cost. COST is a design element, and if I can make a product meet the spec with a $3 part or exceed the spec with a $15 part, you better believe I'm using the $3. Since there is no apparent gain to the end user using the oiled filter technology, the only reason to use it would be cost, and there is a serious cost disadvantage to them. That's really the bottom line.
  12. Well, I missed this thread originally, but Subarus are notorious for throwing the check engine light if the gas cap is the slightest bit loose. What are the odds that your mother was never really tightening the gas cap, but you are? Keith
  13. Now now, you don't need to be that harsh. Yes you've basically hit the nail on the head. Go to an autoparts store and compare the price of a Fram "paper" filter to that of a Fram Air Hog (Fram's rip off of K&N) Legacy paper filter is about $10 and the Oiled Air Hog as about $50. Using good old fashion 70% Gross Margin that means it cost about $3 to make the paper filter and about $15 to make the Oiled. Multply the difference by say even a modest 500,000 units a year and that adds up to $6,000,000 a year! So, right there are the numbers. It would cost a car company like GM Hundreds of Millions to use oiled filter technology. Enough garbage, A K&N filter sohuld increase the gas mileage a little, but not much. Anything helps, and with out doing the math a K&N may or maynot be economical. Filter cleaning and oiling kits aren't free, so every two or three times you clean it you need to drop $10 on the kit. Keith
  14. Well, is wasn't that the stuff wasn't in stock. In fact, I was really impressed that they were trying to ship the stuff out the same day when I placed the order at 3pm their time. They called me right away to tell me about the shipping charges, and now I can't get a hold of them. I'm going to try sending them an e-mail. Who knows, maybe they shipped it out that day 2-day like I had suggested in my first voicemail, and that's why they haven't called back. We'll see. Keith
  15. So who can tell me anything about http://www.subaruparts.com? Placed an order for some items there yesterday and it turned out that their default shipping charges were way low for the size of what they were sending. They called and left me a message about itaround 7pm Eastern Timezone (4pm PacificTimezone.) I tried calling them back around 7:45pm ET which would have been 4:45 pm PT. I got a recording that basically said they were gone, but proceeded to say that they were open until 5pm PT. Anyhow, I left a message and didn't hear back. As of 4:40 ET, 1:40PT I still hadn't heard back so I called. Spent 10 minutes on hold and finally gave up and left a message. What gives? I sent them and e-mail wednesday and they replied to that in a few hours. Keith
  16. Well, I don't know what others have done, but I do have some advise. If the WRX is just like every other Impreza before it the Fuel lines run inside the car, along the left door jams. If I were running my power wire I'd try to run it away from the fuel lines for safety sake. I'll be going through the same process in a week for my Legacy which has the same fuel lines. Fortunate for me I'm only amping subs so I car get away with 8 guage. Keith
  17. Yes and yes. I'd advise just simply pulling the negative off the battery while you do the work. That way you cover all possible bases to be safe. At that point pulling the fuse is no extra help, so just the battery will be fine. Keith
  18. It's probably not an 02 sensor but instead an Exhaust Gas Temp sensor (EGT). Place before the turbo gives you an indication of the cumbustion temp in the cylinder and if the engine is running too lean. The hotter the temp the leaner the burn, and too lean means knock and bad things. Keith
  19. He didn't specifically say that his new Tranny has a 3.9 differential. He was saying that the where there is a 3 on the trans in the car, there is a 9 on the one he has to put in. Now, if the one really has a 3.9 and the other doesn't than cool, but I don't that is really what was meant. That said, is this an Automatic or a manual? As for the manual trans, all the turbo legacy tranmissions had one diff ratio and all the non-turbo ones had a different ratio, but from what I remember they were all the same from like 90 to 94. As for the automatics, they did change something for 92, but I have no idea what. Keith
  20. So I'm buying a 93 Impreza for my stepfather to use as a commuter car. It has the 1.8 with the AWD Automatic and 134,000 miles on the odo. I have no personal experiance with either of these, but other people I know have had good luck. What do people feel the general reliability is of these two? Thanks, Keith
  21. Warm or Hot? If the engine is up to temperature does it blow warm or hot? You could have a situation where the the flapper that controls whether the air flows over the heater core or not it no longer being moved and is in fact stuck half open/closed, therefor heating the air being cooled by the AC and making it feel warm. Keith
  22. Ditto. And for the Price, the Subaru Filters usually aren't much more, and the dealer will use quality oil.
  23. Thanks guys. I all really needed to know is if they made them, and I thought they did. Now to find a cheap set.
