  1. Did you try the Coolant temp sensor? That's what cause problems in one of my Subarus once. Also, does it smell like gas when you're having the trouble starting it?
  2. Well, I don't have any answers for you since mine isn't running at the moment, but I do have a question. Are you looking for the Turbo or the non-turbo version? I'm pretty sure that in the RX models they used a different ratio for the diffs so you would get different speeds from a non RX d/r. Keith
  3. As I was reading this I started to think along the same lines as you were until I remembered something I read. Checkout this new thread I started to see if I'm right about the way the GLs and Loyales have the brake circuits setup. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4519 Keith
  4. This seems to be a common misconception among people, including myself at one point, so I want to clear this up and make sure I'm correct. Guys tell me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I read it in the owner's manual. GL series and Loyale series Subaru brake circuits are NOT split front to rear. The system does have two circuits and they are as follows. #1 Front Left and Rear Right #2 Front Right and Rear Left This was specifically designed this way that in the event of one circuit losing pressure the car would still stop in a controlled fashion. Keith
  5. I believe that they want them replaced every 10 years because of UV deteriorating the thread. That would cause a possible strap break during an accident. EJ, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he recovers well. As for the internal latching mechanism I don't think they have a rated life. They should work forever. I think you're friend had one of those weird incidents were everything lined up the wrong way. Same thing happened to my mother in 1998 in her 1998 honda accord. Someone pulled out in front of her and she t-boned them at 30. Seatbelt didn't latch AND the airbag didn't go off. Honda could give her no reason why they didn't work. Keith
  6. Well, I'm sure EJ remembers me trying to concour the sand dune behind the drag strip in my RX last year. After spending 10 minutes digging it out I don't think I'll try that again this year. But here is a Photo from it. http://www.rallyracers.com/dune.html So the question now becomes, Which car do I bring? http://www.rallyracers.com/Old&New1.html What do you guys think? Sorry, I just had to do that. I never really got around to telling you guys I bought a new toy. Unless you guys would seriously want me to bring the STi I'd be showing up in the RX. Keith PS- Why can't I actually post a photo? Is it because my post count doesn't include my posts from the old board and I'm considered a newbie?
  7. Thanks Paul. At least I appreciated your effort. I'm defenitly in for the 25th, even though it means skipping out on a prior engagement that I didn't want to go to in the first place! Keith
  8. Is there some way to change the title of this thread? I read it back when the date was set to 9/28 and never read it again. Then I saw the 10/25 thread yesterday and got totaly confused until I got off my lazy :moon: and read through this thread again. Anyway, just I can be added to the list four a 10/25 appearance. Keith
  9. The ground is for the temp sensors that you probably swapped from the old rad to the new. If you look the sensor only has one wire going to it. When the Rad gets to the right temp that sensor becomes a short and completes the ground path for the electric fan. If that ground wire isn't there from the rad to the chassis the fan may not turn on. I had problems with my brat because that wire wasn't there when I bought it. Keith
  10. Ok, I'm rebuilding an EA-82T motor and I need some advise on what to do with the lifters to insure that I won't have any lifter ticks once its back together. What should I do? Thanks! Keith
  11. DUDE! :bday: I can make that! I thought you guys were doing this next weekend. I stopped reading that thread. Did I miss something? Keith PS, Nov. 22nd is the Pine Barrens Express TSD rally that I talk about last year at the meet. I'll post more on that when it gets closer.
  12. What are the odds it is because you don't have power steering. Follow me on this: #1 Even when the steering wheel is locked there is some movement. #2 Power steering when not powered requires LOTS of force to move #3 Non power steering moves very easy when at speed So, I'm thinking that with a powersteering car that isn't powered the wheels are held in place much firmer, where as the car with out power steering isn't held firm due to the design? :eh: Make sense to anyone but me? (PS. I love these new smilies )
  13. Ok, the bed measured 5' 4" long. Width is 4' 3.75" at it's widest and 3' 1.5" between the wheel wells. Keith
  14. soobydaddy I'll physically measure mine tonight if nobody else has numbers. Mine is actually an 86 too. EJ Thanks ! I'll check out the helkp forum. Its been a really strange year for me. I'm really hoping to get my RX back together so I can come and play in the Pine Barons, but if I don't I may still come and bring my baby. Keith
  15. They didn't automatically transfer post counts and "titles" over from the old board. There was a thread on the old board about e-mailing your post count and they would update your info. I've been on the board for about two years myself, but only registered for the new board this week. Hopefully they get my e-mail and update me, I don't want people thinking I'm a Noob. Keith
  16. Bed is 5' long and I don't know how wide. As for the SPFI, if we are still talking about a Brat then I think we would be talking about the EA-81T Push-rod, SPFI, Turbo that is a very rare motor, and not found in anything other than the 83 and 84 model years. Other than that they made an EA-82 in several flavors, one of which was SPFI. There was nothing spectacular about it that I know about. Keith
  17. As a general rule of thumb you never want to go wider for a snow tire. The narrower the tire the more weight per square inch on the contact patch. With that added force you dig into the snow and get better traction. This is want you want to do for normal winter driving conditions. Too wide and you can literally float on top of the snow. For some proof take a look at pictures of a WRC car running a snow and ice event. They run scary thin tires. Keith PS- Yes and 97 I believe the so called second Generation of legacy started in 94, and they offered FWD and AWD version through 96. 97 was the first year of the all AWD.
