  1. I'm may need to buy pistons for my EA-82T rebuild. Where can you get pistons other than from the dealer. Alot of the generic parts stores don't have them. Thanks, Keith
  2. Setright, We have a different rating system over here. You guys run a minimum of 92 Research Octane. All of our gas is sold as the average of research and motor octane, RON and MON. Your 92 is really about the same as our 87. Keith
  3. The two facing the rear were a pain, but my biggest problem was keeping the tool from sliding off the pin. The entire process took about 15-20 minutes. Keith
  4. Yes I was talking about the piston Wrist pin. Got them out. Used what amounts to a bent over screwdriver on the end of a slide hammer. That and a little propane heat to the piston and out they came. Keith
  5. Leak down test is where you create the pressure and then test how long the motor can hold it. I've never done it but it test how well the rings are sealing. If it doesn't hold the pressure very long when the piston is at TDC then your rings are shot. Keith
  6. Anybody know and tricks to getting the wrist pins out easily on an EA-82? I'm using a screwdriver with the end bent over ata 90 and it is a serious pain. I don't see any way to get at them from the "back" to push them through, so I guess I'm stuck pulling them out. Thanks, Keith
  7. Damn, After seeing the pics I really wish I could have made it. I wanted to come but I went out Friday night with some friends I don't usually get to go out with and kinda passed out at a friends house around 4 in the morning. Woke up around 10am and was still an hour away from my Subaru, and then another 1:45 from the barrens. Next time I'll be there. I promise! Keith
  8. Well, looks like I'm Coming! I'll be bringing down the Pig STi. A friend of mine might come with in is Autocross prepped WRX for some more Flavor! No matter what I can't stay long. We'll probably meet everyone at the diner and hang out until around lunch. Keith
  9. You're right about the flywheel vs wheel point. Still boils down to Power vs. weight. They had a cool article in Sport Compact car where an Integra powered lotus took on a Mustang Cobra. The lotus won in just about all the tests. Less power, but also a lot less weight. Also, 500hp is easy to get from the Z32. I don't think 700 is even that hard, and that can be done on mostly stock internals from what I've seen. Keith
  10. \ Umm, did you bother to read my reply? #1, did I say it was faster??? NO #2, Was it ever mentioned if we were discussing an unlimited straight road or if we were talking about a 1/4 mile run, or a lap around Lime Rock????? NO #3, Did I not say that as far as top speed goes you would never know because the STi is Electronically limited???? YES So, where exactly do I say that it can go faster because it has the six speed. If you want to get technical a six speed on a road track will beat the same car with a five speed any day. In a quarter mile drag the car with 5 speed would win. In the open never ending straight road the two would probably be a wash, but it still might lean towards the six speed. It's all about keeping the car in the power band effectively. Each type of "race" has different requirements and is handled differently. No matter how you look at it there is a difference and therefore should be mentioned when asking the grand question of which car is faster. So, Who appears to be the simpleton? Keith
  11. Don't forget that the STi also has a 6 speed. As for top speed you will never know. The STi is electronically limited to around 145, but it gets there in a hurry. I do know that the STi beats the new 350Z, but I'm still waiting for the turbo 350Z. That will be sick! Keith
  12. I would say mine used half a quart every 3k. For it being a turbo and knowing what turbos do to the oil that is probably normal. Plus depending on the addatives to the oil you will lose some as things like detergents burn off. BTW, I've heard of guys running track events and only getting about 3 miles to the gallon on fuel! :boohoo: Keith
  13. Here's the story. My RX has the setup where the alternator is sandwiched between the power steering pump and the AC compressor. I'd love to do the XT-6 alternator swap, but it won't fit. I've got everything pulled apart to rebuild the motor, and when you bolt the XT-6 alternator to the bracket there is no room for adjustment. So, I was thinking I could find a car in yard with the alternator to the out side and do a swap. Only problem is that means I'd need to swap one of the hoses to the AC Compressor. Since my R12 system is actually working perfect that would really suck. Maybe I should just have the regular alternator "re-wired" for more power. Keith. PS, still not 100% certian, but it looks like I'm coming for a little while if nothing else. Also depends on if some of my buddies are intersted in meeting me in Atlantic City that night for some Poker! (Poker is now my third favorite thing behind Racing and Subarus!)
  14. Alright, decision time. Meeting for breakfast at 9am. Then hit the trails around 10:30? How long do you expect to be out on the trails before heading back to the ranger station? I don't have a rally to go to this weekend, but I'm thinking I've got some more important things I should be doing. I'm thinking I could just come out for breakfast and some BSing and then head out around lunch time or so. Keith
  15. When mine was running it never used anything. It may have used a bit of oil, but not much or excessive. I also replaced alomst every coolant hose on the car and the radiator. Keith PS. MY EJ25T doesn't use coolant, or oil. Just gas, and lots of it!
  16. Regular oil changes with good oil and a factory filter. Turbo's beat the living piss out of the oil (Turbo's spin at roughly 100000 RPM) so make sure you change every 3000 miles and use a high quality oil that is turbo approved. Also, don't drive hard and then shut off the car. Make your last five minutes of driving easy (Don't let the turbo "come on") or let it idle for a minute before shutting down. That is a good start. Also, make sure your radiator isn't all blocked up(Between the fins) and still has all it's fins. Thats about all I can think of for you right now. Keith
  17. Has anybody done it recently that can tell me what I would need to safely run R134 in my 88RX? Some cars it's just a matter of changing, and some cars require lots of seals to be replaced, and sometimes the compressor. I may need to replace a line and at that point I'll have no choice but to convert. Thanks, Keith
  18. You know, it might just be easier to buy a pre-built ea-82 powered dune buggy and throw a justy shell over top of it! Now that would be funny! Keith
  19. Justy motor is an inline 3, just like any FWD honda or toyota. This is different from every other subaru that you would be used to. There is no way to install an EA-82 with out SERIOUS work. Even installing a larger motor from something Like a honda won't work. I owned a Justy and a I own a 1.6l Honda del Sol and an 89 RX. I actually parked them all side by side once and looked, for just this reason. bushbasher, you serious? I'd love to see it if it were done. The Justy is actually a pretty quick car to start. It doesn't take a big motor to move a small car. Keith
  20. I could swear that my 88 Justy was actually a 12 valve. In fact I remember being rather amazed by it when I went to adjust the lifters. Anyhow, the Justy used for the Land Speed record was actually a 1.2L motor, using some parts from the JDM 1.0. http://www.rallyracers.com/justy.html Keith
  21. For what it's worth I got a 5spd pushbutton 4wd that was in turbo wagon! I never drove it but the car was retired due to being overheated. If you want the trans I can let it go for cheap. PM if your intersted. And yeah, cheap. Keith
  22. The gauge gets wired into the thick single wire that is "bolted" to the back of the alternator. If its like what I'm used to you have to cut that wire connect one wire to one side of the cut wire, and one wire to the other side of the cut. Make sure to use wire equal or larger in size than what you cut. Run both wires to your gauge and hook them up. This is where I usually screw it up. Hook up the wire that goes to the alternator to the + on the gauge and the other to the -. If you start the car and it reads - then switch the wires. Also, when running the wires make sure there is no chance for them to get pinched. If the wires short against the body BAD things can happen. Keith
  23. Don't know, but if I come to the meet I can bring our G-Tech along and we can find out. Keith
  24. I've got a twin! http://www.rallyracers.com/old&new1.jpg Great car, and yes rare! Mine currently has a bad motor, but I'm only a little surprised given it's previous life. I've done some fairly abusive things to mine and it never complained. I've rally crossed it and TSD rallied it. It's gone "off roading" at the East coast Pine Barrens meet, and never once complained. The motor failure was due to a previous life of improper maintanance, and me taking some bad advice. Anyhow, I wish mine was as rust free as yours. Enjoy!
