  1. Anyone know where the float is located on the carb. I even pulled out an old carb and inspected all around it, not recognizing a float. I need to add a bit more fuel output to my carb bowl. Thanks..........
  2. So after many hours a good learning and hard work, I tested out my 84 Wagon GL auto (EA81) on a road trip through W. VA mountains on the freeway (total of about 400 miles in the trip). Car ran very well. Except going up the very gradual, long (like 3 miles long) inclines into the mountains. Of course the freeway repeats this.....up for 3 - 5 miles, down for 3 - 5 miles. Anyway, was maintaining the a speed of btwn 65 and 70 mph. However, as I hit these inclines, car would slow to around 50 to 55 with pedal to the floor. Is this normal for old subarus?? or am I confronting a compression problem. The only thing I noticed during the inclines was a low humm coming from the engine which would disappear once I hit level ground. The other Q I have is I have what sounds like the bird churping beneath the front right wheel well.......an intermitant, yet persistant churp......any ideas??? Thanks....................
  3. It means your car has a drug problem..... Actually, I've noticed the same on mine...not sure what it means?
  4. What about in the oil??? Yes, white smoke.....thought I screwed up something!!!
  5. I've been have a slight pinging (I think its pinging, but I'm beginning to think its just a rattle in the exhaust). Anyway, when using SeaFoam, are you just suppose to pour some of it straight in the carb, same as if you were spraying carb cleaner? Thanks.............
  6. Interesting..........I live on the east coast and drive on salted roads. My 84 wagon has nearly no rust on it at all and I would like to keep it that way. The existing paint on it is in very good condition, however, I know it is short lived. As a prevention, I would like to use something like RB. With cost in mind, I would like to coat the car (or at least the rust prone areas) with something like RB, but would like to then repaint the car all over. My Q is, should I sand the existing paint off (pain in the arse), apply the RB, then paint the entire car??? What would the the advised step-by-step process for what I'm looking to accomplish?? Thanks.................
  7. You are correct, the more I thought about it, I realized I had it backwards. Now another Q, I need to adjust the Float, theres too little gas in there.....how do I go about adjusting the float.... Thanks always..........
  8. Ok.....I'm strying to get this straight in my head: If the rotor on the disty moves counterclockwise, and I'm 12 deg advanced, then I twist the disty clockwise to a slower idle, could I actually acheived 10 deg advanced???? Thanks............
  9. Battlestar Brattica Brattilla (my appoligies........... )
  10. How about Phat? (phat brat) So hows missoula? I use to live there in 94 - 97. spent my last year in montana in St. Ignatius. Saw many fine subarus in missoula...in fact, owned my first subi there...1980 dl wagon fwd.........bought for $600 with 160k on it..........sold it for $300 with 185k on it. cheers......have a pint at the Rhino for me!
  11. It's an 84 wagon gl 4wd auto with 36k. (EA81) hey, maybe I'd feel more comfortable at 10 degrees???
  12. That is correct...........except its an EA81. Is 4 degrees too greedy?????
  13. Blunt, but to the point (note: this a Carburated Engine, not fuel injected) Though there has been significant power gain, it looks as if it would be wise to reconsider the thirst for power and settle for engine longevity..... cheers..............
  14. It's an 84 carb wagon and is timed to 12 deg.........runs fine, great power, and use 93 octane. Is there anything I should worry about or be aware of being that its timed to 12 deg??? Thanks
  15. Thanks...........where would the front filter be located???
  16. I changed my fuel filter to to discover that it was long over due......brown goo seeping out of the old filter. After putting in the new filter it made such a remarkable difference in performance. My concern is that the fuel tank has plenty of goo left in it, unless I do something about it, I will be changing my fuel filter every 1,000 miles. I would like to avoid having to remove the fuel tank for a cleaning......what additives work best for cleaning a tank. Recommendations???? Thanks....
  17. Would the timing be any different for an 84 gl wagon?
  18. In order to make this adjustment to my gauge, does anyone know approx. at what rpms an 84 auto is suppose to shift gears??? If I know this, then I can better pinpoint how far off my gauge really is..............thanks again.......
