  1. So your saying sand to bare metal, zinc paint, primer, top coat, done..... I am not painting it, but would like to know what they should use and what their process should be. Who would you recommend if you were not to do it yourself???
  2. Looking to do a complete paint job on my 84 wagon with rust prevention in mind. What type of paint job would you guys recommend???? What about the undercarraige (regarding rust)..
  3. $96 dollars on www.autopartsgiant.com .........thanks................
  4. Where would I find one to buy???? How much are they?? thanks..... PS South park rules
  5. What does TPS stand for??? Where is it located? and what does it do??? Thanks...........
  6. Question: I also have an automatic with push 4wd......wouldn't this be considered Tri-Range 4wd being that you can have 4wd while in "D" Drive, "2" gear, and "1" gear? I've always wondered if this is the same as with the "Hi & Lo" with the manuals, but the auto's have an extra low with the "1" gear..............
  7. First of all I would like to thank all of you who assisted in helping install my distributor.....very greatful. The hesitation happens usually only when the engine is cold/slightly warm. From idle I press on the gas and the RPMs immediately drop almost to the point of stalling if I am not careful. The only time it happens when the engine is warm is when I slow down to take a 90 degree turn....sometimes stalling. Note that this happened proir to the installation of a new disty. Assuming that there is no vacuum leak (which I believe there isn't) what could be the cause????? Its a 84 wagon gl 4x4 auto. Thanks.................
  8. Ok.....I didn't pull the plug to feel the compression, but rather removed the cap (taking note where #1 plug goes.....cranked the wheel until the rotor pointed at or near where the #1 plug goes.....lined up TDC, adjusted dissy, cap on....done. Could I still be 180 degrees off??? Or is my thinking off. Thanks for your help guys...........
  9. It doesn't even threaten to run.....I did notice that the #3 plug wire does not have a good connection onto the disty cap...could this be the cause, or should I look at the coil??? Thanks
  10. Well I just installed a new disty...and I'm nearly 100% sure I'm on the right tooth. Tried to turn it over....no catch. Then would twist the disty a bit, try again...no improvement. What next??? Help!
  11. Ok, just got a reman. disty with vacuum advance, cap, rotor......but no dust cover. The instructions mention that "Optic Distributors are supplied without dust covers"......does this mean I do not need a dust cover? What is an Optic disty.....how do I know if I have one????? Its all for my 84 wagon GL 4x4 auto..... Thanks for you guidance...........
  12. Ok....one more thing I've just noticed that is baffling me....without a doubt, as my temp guage indicates, my engine runs cooler when I have my AC on and hotter when my heat is on????????? Am I missing something????
  13. Coolant level is fine. When the fan turns on, it does go to near normal (a hair above the second line). PS.....the temp is not affected by whether I have the AC or the heat on. Thanks.........
  14. None of those.......I'll first try the radiator cap....then flush thanks..................
  15. I've noticed recently that my '87 gl hatch temp creeps up to near red....though never in the red and not near enough to make me pull over. Mostly, if not always, occures when I'm stuck in traffic (stop and go) or sitting idle. The fan does eventually turn on and cool it down a bit. Its just getting nervously close to red all the time.......these are the symptoms.....what the diagnosis???? Thanks......
  16. Genius!.............thanks! Now (choking in embarassment).....could you explain "timing" (agian....I'm trying to learn to take care of my subi, gota start somewhere......) I think I got it but just what to know exactly from an expert........... Thanks
  17. I need to install a new distributor in my 84 wagon (4x4) auto....and I have little-to-modest car repair knowledge, yet I am disciplined enough to figure most things out (I hope). What is the proceure in installing a new distributor? Is it simply removing the old one, popping in the new one...and your done (wishful thinking)? What the step-by-step......is it simple enough far one of my meeger knowledge to do, or am I getting myself into a world of sh**! Thanks in advance for your input, Cheers............
  18. There is a Seinfeld episode that shows a yellow wagon (1980-84) in a quick shot on the street outside Jerry's apt.......can't remember which episode.
  19. No....the car ran a smooth as it always has.....and I drove it for at least 10 miles on the highway..... If there was a serious problem with the oil pressure, wouldn't it have happened immediately??
  20. Where is that located (the oil pressure sending unit wire)?? Thanks...
  21. So I was driving my 87 hatchback, oil pressure gauge showing what it should...opperating fine. I went to meet a friend for golf .....then as we were leaving he couldnt start his car....so I jump started his. A couple a minute later I notice (while going 60 miles an hour) that the oil pressure gauge was showing near zero, a hair above the red line......and was not moving due to acceleration and deacceleration.....so I immediately pulled over, check the oil....fine. I continued to drive home (risky) but made it back fine (about 15 miles). Now I don't much, but if I was getting no oil pressure, I should have not been able to drive that far at the speed I was driving without the engine seizing. Could it have been that when I jump started my friends car that it zaped the oil pressure gauge (all other gauges work fine)?????? Thanks.............
  22. Need feedback on the best way to maintain a rust free (84 wagon) subaru while living on the east/salt coast. My current wagon is 99% rust free and I would like to keep it that way. It's been z-barted (sp?). Any suggestions???? Thanks......
  23. Thanks....I need the following for my 84 wagon: Start Relay Solenoid Valve Air Control Vacuum Valve Check Valve They seem very difficult to find.....
