Hi All, I finally got some digital pics of my 92 Subaru Loyale, auto, 4WD that my daughter loves to call “Suba-Doo” as she is a big Scooby-Doo fan. Keep in mind that this car was trashed by my ex-wife and (thanks to all your help) it took me only a month to restore it. I’ve enclosed the pics in 3 separate posts: Modifications: K&N air filter Air-box, drilled NGK plugs Napa high-discharge wires 2nd Cat-Converter removed Roof Mount Rally lights Fog lights Firestone Fire Hawk Indy 500 tires Water-proofed (silicone sealed) electrical connectors Homemade Parts: Skid-plates (front, oil-pan, & mid-exhaust) Timing belt cover, oil-drip collector Padded push bar Sub-Frame connectors TV/VCR center (for the kids) T.J.

it is possible... to turbo a carb.
trooperjeep replied to JonOfScio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My brother is a *huge* VW nut! He also used to be a parts distributor once upon a time and still builds custom VW motors on the side. I will ask him if there is a blower that would fit. So... do you think a blower would really work on a EFI, EA82 (92 Loyale) T.J. -
Turbo Muffler Questions...
trooperjeep replied to trooperjeep's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You guys are awsome! Thanks for the info! By the way... how do you attach pics into your posts? I wanted to share pics of my "modified" Loyale with the group. T.J. -
Turbo Muffler Questions...
trooperjeep replied to trooperjeep's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks Snowman! You got a part number? Anyone else got ideas? T.J. -
Hi All, The time has come to replace the muffler on my 92 Loyale, auto, 4WD. I have read the free-flow "turbo" mufflers are the best choice to increase performance and power. What kinds are there that will fit? Any part numbers? How much? Thanks! T.J.

How can you tell if the front cat is clogged? What about the inside of the muffler? Do they ever clog or go bad? I thinks it's still the origional muffler. :cornfuzz: T.J.

Hi All, Although I asked this question in a different thread, I wanted to post it to the gorup. The 2nd cat-converter is "missing" on my 92 Loyale and has been replaced with a straight pipe (must have been removed by the previous owner) but I was wondering if it will effect performance (for good or bad) and back pressure. :-\ T.J.

Skid plate Qs(EA82 front)
trooperjeep replied to soobme's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I made skid plates for my 92 Loyale wagon out of 2/8" thick, hardened, diamond plate aluminim that has been bolted on and/or attached with GE silicone sealer. It was made from scrap I was able to pick up at the local metal supply co. for $20. Now they protect the: * front roll-pan * oil pan * mid-exhaust A year ago I made some for my all-road minivan project, to protect the vitals when taking it off road to the cabin. The aluminum plate holds up very well. It's as strong a steel but weighs about 1/3 less. T.J. -
I found the NGK plugs at Advanced Auto Parts for $1.36 each. I got the "Split V" design because it's supposed to deliver a little more power. T.J.

I put a newer Purge Control Valve in my 92 Loyale and it runs a little smoother. Perhaps this will help the gas millage as well? I'll report back in a week. T.J.

I took a 1 hour drive out to a country junk yard that has a few wrecked, old Subarus... I was able to get a Purge Control Valve off a 93 Loyale for only $15! That sure beats the dealer cost of $102! Now my 92 Loyale's check engine light is out and the engine also seems to run a little smoother as well. Hopefully this will imporve the gas millage to. The best part was that the junk yards "lot car" was an old 90 Loyale wagon that was tearing through the huge mud puddles and thick mud like it was nothing! I'm glas to see they can still take a beating after all these years! T.J.

What kind of millage should I be getting with my 92 Loyale, 4WD, auto? It is only between 12 and 19 Mpg. I did a lot of "tune up" work (see previous post) but still have a 35 (Purge Control Valve) so I gotta go to the junk yard in Wayland tomorrow to scrouge for a new one, because the dealer wants $102 for a new one. Do all Auto, Loyales get lousy gas millage? What else should I check?! T.J.

I did the following performance mods to my 92 Loyale, 4WD, auto: * NGK spark plugs * Bosh high capacity wires * Drilled Air box bottom * K&N air filter * removed 2nd cat-converter It runs a little better now. But it's only a 90 HP engine and with the automatic it's slow. But it still handles great, has awsome 4WD, and is a blast to drive. T.J.

When I restored my white, 92 Loyale to (as my friend put it ) "showroom condition" I used the bed liner in a can spray paint and did the rocker pannels to the bottom of the side moulding and followed the shape of the wheel arches to make it look like fender flares... sort of like the early outback style paint job. I also did the font and sides of the hood to resemble a bra (cloth hood protector) as well as the grill insert to match. I then finished the edges (where black meets white) with 1/8" black pin striping to give it a clean / crisp edge. I must say it turned out very well and I have recieved a lot of compliments about it, especially the hood... when people touch it and say "I though that was a cloth hood protector... cool!" T.J.

Any ideas?

I checked the resistance on the "purge control valve" and "it's dead Jim." I even took it out and applied voltage directly to see if the solinoid would "click".... no luck. So... how hard is it to get a new one? Is thjs a dealer only item? Will it effect gas millage & performance? T.J.

Green connectors left connected
trooperjeep replied to Holmes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On my 92 Loyale, the green connectors make the check engine light go out. What else do they do? T.J. -
Could the "error code 35" purge control valve, be effecting the gas millage? T.J.

Where can I buy NGK plugs in Rochester, NY? T.J.

It's the same problem I have with my 92 Loyale. There is air trapped in the heater core. Read the thread "wheres the heat" to see the suggestions on how to fix the problem. T.J.

What's "NGK" stand for? I don't think they sell these locally. Are they sold under a different name? T.J.
