  1. Ross, how does a water to air intercooler work? and is it better/how much better is it than a air to air inercooler? harder to install/more costly? thanks
  2. i have the rx owners manual aaaaaand if i read it right, the mx speed limits in each gear are: 1st - 15 2nd - 35 3rd - 50 4th - 70 5th - 70+ (go till ur engine blows ) but im not sure, im guessin people have gotten alittle more outta each bbut who knows, jus adding a bit o help
  3. oooo is this also called the "mis-firing system"? I saw a video of a Pulsar GTI-R with it and lordy, it speed off from dead stop literally like a rocket car. SR20DET 245hp stock hatchback awd, a true subaru rival (im sure people know that era as with the Mazda 323 gtx which are way hard to find in my part of town) Thats really the other car id want other than subarus haha. Id love to have ani-lag on a STI but we all can dream
  4. What are the best choices for a TMIC for the EA82T? I know of the saab 900 one that works pretty okay that subarujunkie has runnin. Ive heard about the mr2 one also. Whats a decent sized one that can cool the air quite well, can be found for a decent price and can be hooked up to the engine without a large maze of hoses? The saab looks quite easy but kinda small, any inputs? *edit* i think ill want to run a vf11 legacy turbo in the end so thats the reason of lookin for asking about decent IC that arnt too small, otherwise id haave gone for a saab 900 already haha
  5. right now i have a choice of two places for a jdm crate engine. Theres rising sun engines which would sell it to me for mmm sumthin lik $795 but im not sure i believe i will be taxed since i live in cali where they are located? they have the 180 day warranty an all and they seem thorough with inspection. Then there is Foreign Engines, Inc. that will sell me an engine for $875 after shipping and they have the 1 year unlimitied mile warranty. Just wondering if anyone had any opinions of either place and what seems best. Thaanks.
  6. well it seems the manifold would be quite a pain, esp since i live in cali and id be sooo much fun to work with the smog stuff. im liking the vf11 like subarujunkie and am wondering how much more it will help out? im gettin a new used engine so the vf11 will have to wait but i want to run that with xt6 flywheel and clutch kit, seems it could add a bit o fun
  7. i really want to just take out my own rear suspension and measure it buuuut, i dont have the tools right now haha. but iw as wondering if anyone took the time to get th efull length of the strut and what the diamter of the how wide the spring is an all. i am intrested because i am starting to get ideas for a custom suspension make up consisting of searching around for anything that can really be modded to fit on. I see alot of suspension set ups fro toher cars thatt have the same bottom connectors as my car but they might be too long an all. itd be great to find some gc8 style old jdm tein fronts after the lug conversion and some tein others that could be worked with for the rear. any insight would help alot.

I see spider manifolds an all but how does that thing really work on a ea82t if its taken off an xt? can it work on turbo engines? sorry for the dumbness but i dont really know and also where can i get a spider manifold? meaning can it simply be off a regular xt? or do i need to find a turbo xt? And about the TD04, is it easy to place into a ea82T engine? it seems i would need to modifly the uppipe downpipe so it can fit, which is fine by me cuz i want to strengthen those since they seem to not like to get hot with the turbo and kill things like my old enigine. if what im thinkin is correct at least hah. How much would the td04 help increase and woul the powerband curve increase in lowend/highend or anything? spool faster? also i might as well purchase forged pistons so that they wont start to go south at high rpms but does TWE market ones for my engine? i checked but no dice? an clues to a shop that makes quite nice ones that are reliable? thanks for any inputs
  9. whats the best way to help out those quadrants then? i really want to get aan intercooler setup for the engine imma swap in, would that reduce the load of heat near the turbo? jus wondering cuz i dont want it to happen again haha.

  11. can anyone possible take a picture of a GL,RX rear strut setup? such as our strut matched up with another car makers strut possibly? i want to see how short/long the soobs is compared to another car make. Im looking at perhapes doin a full rear mod but dont know how short the rear strut coilovers are gonna havta be. thanks.

Hi, i was wondering if anyone could provide pictures of the clutch line where it connects on to the engine part. i cant really explain this well but i guess theres a brake line thing that also connects so when ur on a uphill and hold down the clutch it holds the bake down also so u dont roll back?? thats what it says in the owner's manual. plus it seems mine might be loose so i wanted to see a few reference pics. thanks alot.
  14. can u give me a quick diagram of how the cylinder number layout is on the RX? i wasnt sure if it was 3 or 2 haha. but if im correct it seemed like the 3rd cylinder was 60 and the 4th was 90, but im not sure. Lordy i wish i coulda had that crate engine. How difficult is it to swap the engine out? I wonder if anyone wants the turbo or anything, seems to run strong haha, jus all the other stuff. Yeah the timing belts and everything is on. We did a spark plug quick check and when #3 was pulled the knocking whent away so you how that is. thanks for the help though. by the way, how decent are JDM motors? as in, how well do they perform? and is it easy for a JDM ea82T engine to pass smog? Rising sun engines says theirs do and they seem quite decent, since im in California. Has anyone delt with them?
  15. soooo i fiiiinally get a compression test from my frends shop aaaaannnd.....bad news. One piston is basically gone and runnin at 60, abother is at 90. NOT FUN TO HEAR. Stupid up hill climbs from Reno....but anyways, it seems i must find a new engine basically. So does anyone know where i can find a decent used ea82T engine? im lookin i guess for JDM motors nows since there low on miles. Nippon Motors has them goin for $550 before ship i presume. I was wondering if anyone knew how decent they were for service, quality, and so on. Does anyone know anywhere else they sell motors? of does anyone have one in decent condition? I would really try and get one as soon as possibl;e haha. but yeah, sad news all but ill try my best to get the RX up an rurnnin as soon as i financially can
  16. ive noticed on some coilovers (JIC, Cusco) the top part is held on by simply bolts. I was wondering, say u haave an older generation car (RX perhapes ), could u ever mod the rear parts to fit the strut mounts? it seems that if it didnt u could fabricate somthing much easier then for other coilovers. this is assuming a xt6 conversion was done. also it would need to have different bottom ends for the rear but i was simply wondering about the top and if such a thing could be done. sample suspension
  17. not sure if anyone has seen these, original japanese Leone broshure images. talk about getting ripped of in the USDM market with steering wheels, the one on the right is sweet. Also notice the factory yellow foglights or whatever they are, they rectract or sumthin, so tight. Also, pictures of smoooth black/gun metal RX-2's, very nice. Enjoy all.
  18. i qouls bw happy with 200 at the wheels and run 270 after boost. i am talking about the 01 02 wrx USDM engines.

  20. i have read alot of the posts but am still lost about what motor i should lean towards when i swap. Right now the ej20t is looking the best. Since i live in Cali, i was also leaning towards the one that came in the early wrxs. I know it is weka compared to the JDM, euro spec ones but itd be a bit les of a hassle. I am kinda intrested in the ej22g/t stlye motor also but it seeems that it would perhapes be a bit more hassle to find? i am only looking for around 250~270 hp from the engine so basically light tuning perhapes (exhaust an all). What do you all suggest best? I also have a friend who would be able to sell me his engine when he finally moves on to converting it to STI which would be later on. Im wondering price differences and does anyone know where to find a USDM engine and or MT 5speed tranny (legit salvage yards that sell them)? I konw corky has done basically the same thing.
  21. well im looking for a cheap solutin until i can convert to a 5 lug, then ill go with 2.rs agx struts or sumtin much better. well see. i was sjust looking for a way to lower the height so that i can lower the center of gravity and have some stiff springs in there.
  22. Hi, i heard that for the RX, the xt6 or xt has a flywheel that is lighter than stcok RX and fits right up? Is that true and if not, is there any flywheel that is lighter? I dont wanna really end up having to drill it haha. Also, I was intrested in putting new 2wd xt gr-2 struts on the front to improve handling and was wondering if anyone had already calculated spring hight and lb rate for the front and back. Im looking into running wiht 13s for awhile and i dont want to have massive stock like clearance with fun fun body roll. Also, is eibach the only one where u can make universal/custom springs for the back and all? or is there another sprring maker (not ebay haha) where i can get some custom made? I heard runnin stock 2wd xt springs in the rear and runnin stock rx springs in the front would lower me quite a bit and was wonderin if i could get them at a stiffer rate....any inputs would be very helpful. thanks.

So it seemed that i need to get some Marvs and some new clean oil in so i lift the car up and begin the change thinking itll be a quick maybe 30min job, also bought a decent oill filter to change in since the other one i was kinda skeptical of. 30mins later....STUCK big TIME. The old oil filter was on sooo tight. Seems the last person that put it on wanted to laugh in the face of whoever tired to change it there after. It would not come off, even after my friend and I used the belt synching rachet, then a torque bar converson so i can fit the head on the top of the oil filter, just simply stripped it. In the end i had to impale it with a screwdriver (safely of course makin sure not to also impale my engine) and then rotate the screwdriver to turn the filter. I was swimmin in oil after the whole ordeal. So 2 hrs of labor, trip to the auto store for nothing, and 3 cuts on the hand later, I FINALLY am able to change it out hah. Then hoped right on to workin with my friend to install his STI Spec-C full suspension . Lesson learned: make sure the filter has a torque top to it to turn off easily or SUMTHIN to make the job easier!
  24. by the way, the mechanic who inspected it was talking about if i dont replace the valve gaskets that are leaking oil an all and everythin my engine is gonna go soon which sounded scary to me. I need to do a total engine oil flush or sumthin and i hope to do that and replace the valve cover gaskets and fix the lifters all at the same time. Anyone give me sorta a run down of how the valve cover gaskets work/replace? And know where i can get some?
