The coke is not on there forever. Unless you have fried a component within it, you can definitely clean this out. Pick up some electrical component cleaner...not contact cleaner, two entirely different things, and spray down the inside of the radio with it. THis will get rid of the gunk enough for you to wipe it up. ohh...a side note...take the radio out and remove power to do this...I know that may be insulting however still needs to be said!

I would like to install some type of high idle controller on my 93 subaru wagon. I know this is something you usually see on emergency apparatus, and not on a station wagon, however with the current load at idle on my car is sometimes quite excessive. I know that most people would just reccommend dropping in a larger alternator, or installing an underdrive pully, however I am not a big fan of either. So you would need to do some convincing, especially since the normal day-to-day current draw is handled easily with the current alternator. Any Ideas?

I just got a call from the shop, they quoted me over $2,000 on my 93 Legacy Wagon. I took the thing in there for a 120,000 mile tuneup for $500 and they just blow that out of the water. They want to do the following things Front Left Axle Boot Replacement (they say it's torn and needs to be replaced because this is a safety hazard) Engine Tuneup (Whatever the hell that entails) Full Fluid Change Rear Brake Pads, and Rotor tuning Front Brake Pads Spark Plug Wires Hood Latch (it sticks, big deal) Rip me off for everything they can I told them I would do the spark plug wires myself, get rid of the hood latch (they wanted over $70 just for the part) and some fuel injector service they wanted $80 bucks for I told them to shove you know where, they now have the quote down to $1,453. Is there anything else you guys think I should be looking out for?

Did you do the replacement yourself? Either way, I would check to make sure the actual antenna plug has not broken off. As in the center conductor of the plug may have disconnected from the pin that goes into your radio. A somewhat easy (however not the best for the reciever) way to check is to unplug the antenna from the unit, tune it to a somewhat strong station (not too strong) then plug the connector back in and see if the signal changes at all. I am not too familar with the on-glass antennas that subaru uses, however they should work fine for AM/FM use. A piece of wire works great too!

I have 120k on a 93 Legacy Wagon, which seems to be low on this board. The previous owner took excellent records of the vehicle, which I am continuing. According to everything I have, the vehicle has never had any major engine work done. I have no rust, no rot, and no smell. The biggest thing I have had replaced were both of the front Axles, and that was because I slid of the road into a ditch, fun times. No problems other than "operator caused!"

A quick look at a Chilton Manual would help out...however I aggree that it is probably wired for options that you may not have...such things like fog lights...trailer lights...Air suspension...Seat Heaters...ABS...etc Just a guess..make sure things are not live if you plan on ripping it out! Otherwise you may be in for a shock!

You can either disconnect the power to the antenna (preferably while it is in the extended position) disconnect the antenna up power output from the head unit, or replace the mast with one that does not retract...found at most auto parts stores. I would reccommend just disconnecting the power to the antenna while it is in the up position...it's the most simple and cheapest (free!)
